Divorce, Please: The Young Master Does Not Love Me
Chapter 623 - 619: Calm and ComposedChapter 623: Chapter 619: Calm and Composed
There was a hint of pain in Cassian Jennings’s eyes. In a low, hoarse voice, he said slowly, "Amelia, let’s talk."
"There’s nothing for us to talk about." When a heart is broken, it can still be mended. Given time to recover, the wound will slowly heal.
But if a heart dies, it can never be brought back.
It no longer feels what it once did. It doesn’t beat, nor does it feel pain.
"Amelia, even if you won’t forgive me, we can still sit down and talk calmly." Cassian Jennings took a few steps closer, his tone a little gentler than before.
"What exactly do you want, Cassian Jennings? There’s absolutely nothing for us to talk about. The past is in the past. To avoid any awkwardness when we run into each other, and to prevent trouble for our future partners, please, just stay away from me. Don’t step into our social circle again."
"Amelia..."
Cassian Jennings looked pained and was about to say more, but a car suddenly screeched to a halt beside them. The window rolled down, and the man inside honked the horn, his voice full of annoyance. "Amelia Avery, stop wasting your breath on him and get in the car!"
Amelia Avery shot Cassian Jennings a cold glance, then turned without looking back, opened the passenger door, and got in.
The door had barely closed when the car shot off, putting hundreds of meters between them before Cassian Jennings could even think to stop her.
The breakneck speed of the car made Cassian Jennings’s heart leap into his throat. He stared in the direction it had gone for a long while before finally pulling his gaze away and turning back.
However, he had only taken a few steps before he saw Leo Joyce walking toward him.
Leo Joyce looked to be in low spirits, lacking the youthful hostility Cassian remembered. With his hands in his pockets, he glanced in the direction behind Cassian. For some unknown reason, a roguish smile touched his lips, and he chuckled softly before teasing coolly, "Looks like she still won’t forgive you."
"What’s between her and me is none of your business. You should just mind your own," Cassian Jennings said, shooting him a cold glance, his tone tinged with anger.
"Heh. I’m heading back home tomorrow. Care to grab a drink?" If this had been the old Leo Joyce, he never would have spoken to Cassian Jennings so amicably. But at that moment, he suddenly felt like they were in the same boat. Or maybe he just wanted someone to talk to, someone to drink with, and as it happened, Cassian Jennings was the only person he knew around here.
Cassian Jennings’s expression darkened slightly. He furrowed his brow for a few seconds, then nodded. "Let’s go."
「Meanwhile.」
Inside the car, both occupants wore stern expressions.
A little over ten minutes later, the car pulled to a stop outside a restaurant.
The man turned to look at the silent, stone-faced Amelia Avery and demanded aggressively, "Didn’t you say you were going to see Leo Joyce? What was that with Cassian Jennings just now?"
"I ran into him."
Hearing this, the man scoffed, raising an eyebrow. "Is he still following you? Harassing you?"
"That’s my business." Amelia Avery’s heart lurched. She turned her head and looked directly at the man before her.
Her words, however, had no deterrent effect. The man’s hands tightened on the steering wheel as he said decisively, "I’ll have someone take care of him. Then he won’t be able to bother you anymore."
"Elias Yates! I’ll handle my own business. You stay out of it!"
Evidently, Amelia’s words infuriated Elias. He slammed his hands on the steering wheel in frustration. "It’s been months, and you still haven’t dealt with him!"
"He’s a person, not an object you can just ’deal with’! Besides, no matter what happened between us, he’s still family to me. Without my permission, none of you are to lay a hand on him."
"I’m just afraid you’ll rekindle that old flame. You keep saying you don’t love him and don’t care about him anymore, but in the end, you’ll just break your own rules, swallow your pride, and go running back to your old lover."
Although Elias Yates’s words were harsh and merciless, he wasn’t wrong.
’In his opinion, if the love was gone, it was gone. The break should be clean and decisive.’
’He could watch a former lover die right in front of him and not even bat an eye.’
But that was just his way of thinking. Clearly, Amelia Avery did not feel the same...
