Chapter 625: Chapter 619: Calm and Composed

She had thought Cassian Jennings was already an incredibly handsome man, but to her surprise, there was someone even more handsome.

Ever since Cassian Jennings and Leo Joyce walked in, the owner had been personally attending to them.

They had come here to drink. The sudden appearance of a woman left Leo Joyce simmering with irritation he couldn’t vent.

So, he did nothing but drink, not even bothering to look up.

Cassian Jennings sensed Leo Joyce’s mood. He also couldn’t miss the desire in the owner’s eyes, all directed at Leo. Cassian feigned ignorance, refusing to get involved. He just grabbed a beer bottle, settled onto the sofa, and drank at a leisurely pace.

"Young Master Jennings, aren’t you going to introduce your handsome friend?"

Cassian Jennings slowly lifted his gaze to Sanyue and smirked. "Heh, Sanyue, you can stop staring. The man’s married."

"That can’t be right. He looks so young. He doesn’t seem like the married type."

Irritated, Leo Joyce slammed his beer bottle onto the table. "Ma’am, could you please go entertain your other customers? I just want to have a quiet drink with my friend."

The smile on Sanyue’s face froze for a moment, but she nodded obediently. "Alright, in that case, I won’t disturb you. Just let me know if you need anything."

After Sanyue left, Cassian Jennings set his bottle on the table as well. He knit his brows, glanced at Leo Joyce, and then, as if a thought struck him, said with a derisive smile, "Well, Leo, I think the owner has taken a liking to you. That was a pretty heartless thing to say to her."

"Heh, Cassian Jennings! We’re not close. You can call me Young Master Joyce or Leo Joyce." Leo Joyce shot him a cold, sharp glare.

Cassian Jennings nodded mockingly. "Right. We’re still rivals." Just moments ago, he’d called them friends to get rid of the owner, and now he was already taking it back.

But Cassian Jennings didn’t bother arguing the point with him.

After all, he didn’t consider Leo Joyce to be much of a threat anyway.

He was simply in a foul mood and wanted someone to drink and talk with, that’s all.

If he were back in Tridell, he wouldn’t be stooping to drinking with a punk like Leo Joyce.

"You’re wrong. You, Cassian Jennings, aren’t even worthy of being my rival." As he spoke, memories of the past flooded Leo Joyce’s mind, and a fire of rage ignited in his chest.

Cassian Jennings gave a self-deprecating smile but didn’t say anything more.

The two men drank on, lost in their own troubled thoughts.

Every ten minutes or so, one would say a few words, only for the other to immediately shoot them down.

It wasn’t until they’d each downed more than ten bottles, their minds growing hazy, that the two men finally sat side-by-side and began to drink and talk in earnest.

"Cassian Jennings, you know what? I fucking despise you. You... you don’t deserve my precious girl," Leo Joyce slurred, shouting at Cassian.

"You’re right. I don’t deserve her. I was the one who failed her."

"I have no idea what my precious girl ever saw in a bastard like you. If it weren’t for her, I would’ve had you crippled ages ago." As he spoke, Leo Joyce didn’t hesitate to land a kick on Cassian.

Kicked off the sofa and onto the floor by Leo, something suddenly seemed to click for Cassian Jennings. He staggered to his feet, bottle in hand, and pointed angrily at Leo. "You love her?"

"Yes. I love her," Leo Joyce replied calmly, meeting his gaze.

"How can you love her? She’s mine! She’s mine!!" Cassian’s eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed Leo Joyce by the collar and roared, "Nobody is taking her away from me!"

Yanked to his feet by Cassian, he smirked and pried Cassian’s hands off his collar. "Why can’t I love her? And who told you she was yours? You failed her. You’ll never have her in this lifetime!"

Triggered by Leo’s words, Cassian Jennings threw a vicious punch. "You bastard! How dare you love her!!"

Taking the punch, Leo Joyce refused to back down. He smashed the bottle in his hand on the floor and threw a counterpunch.

Just like that, the two of them started trading blows.

Soon enough, both men were on the ground, their faces bruised and their mouths bleeding.

Broken bottles littered the floor. Shards of glass had dug into their skin, but they seemed to feel nothing.

Leo Joyce stared at the ceiling of the swaying room, a bitter smile twisting his lips. In a flat voice, he said, "Tell me, were you just blind back then? Our girl was so wonderful, and you just couldn’t see it."

Cassian Jennings’s eyes glazed over, his mind drifting back to the past. He recalled the memory with a bitter smile. "Heh... Back then, when she confessed to me for the first time, I was completely floored. A girl who wasn’t even of age... a little sister I’d always doted on and protected... suddenly telling me she loved me. I honestly had no fucking clue how to feel. More than shock, I felt fear. I didn’t know how to face my best friend... and I had no idea how to face Amelia."
