Chapter 627 - 620: Wrong Is Wrong (Part 2)Chapter 627: Chapter 620: Wrong Is Wrong (Part 2)
On the other end of the line, Amelia Avery was instantly wide awake, shooting bolt upright in bed.
But she didn’t say a word. She lay back down, her expression exceedingly complex, her mind consumed by what Elias Yates had said.
"You know I can’t stand Cassian Jennings, so I wasn’t about to help when he got beaten up. I just happened to pass by and see it, so I’m letting you know." When Amelia didn’t respond, Leo Joyce wasn’t particularly surprised. He gave Cassian Jennings a detached glance and continued spinning his tall tale. "He’s at Club 398. Looks like he had a lot to drink and provoked some people from the underworld."
With that, Leo Joyce hung up.
He stood up and walked over to Cassian Jennings. When he reached his side, he crouched down and touched the wound on Cassian’s leg. It was still bleeding. A cold, wicked smile crossed Leo’s lips as he smeared some of the blood onto Cassian’s face.
There was no need to overdo it. Cassian Jennings was already banged up as it was.
He sighed, straightened up, and headed for the door.
Just before leaving, his gaze fell on Cassian Jennings one last time.
’He never imagined that one day he’d be lying to Amelia for that bastard, Cassian Jennings.’
’And for the sole purpose of getting them back together, no less.’
As he thought about it all, the smile on Leo Joyce’s face grew increasingly bitter and resigned.
Half an hour after he left, the door was pushed open.
It was Amelia Avery.
Her eyes immediately took in the wreckage of the room and the man lying on the floor.
Her legs trembled as she made her way to Cassian Jennings’s side.
Looking at the still figure on the ground, an unbearable pain seized her heart.
’"I can’t promise I won’t kill someone before the wedding."’
Those words echoed endlessly in her mind.
And she had never doubted the weight behind them.
She knew perfectly well that Elias Yates was capable of it.
’So, was she too late?’
’Was Cassian really dead?’
Tears streamed down her face. With a trembling hand, she reached out to check for Cassian’s breath, to see if he was truly gone.
And, just as she’d feared, there was no breath. Not a single trace of it.
Her vision swam, and the world went dark.
She collapsed to her knees with a thud. Her eyes landed on a shard of broken glass nearby. Without a second thought, she crawled over, grabbed a large piece, and raised it to her arm.
"Cassian Jennings, wait for me! I’m coming with you!" ’Elias Yates killed him, so she would pay for Cassian’s life with her own.’
But just as she raised her arm, a hand shot out and gripped her wrist tightly. "Are you insane?!"
"B-but... aren’t you dead?" Seeing Cassian Jennings suddenly sit up and grab her hand, Amelia Avery’s eyes widened in terror as she stammered in disbelief.
"You idiot. Even if I were dead, you can’t die." Seeing her in this state, an inexplicable pain shot through Cassian Jennings’s heart. He’d been awake since the moment she’d pushed open the door, but his body ached too much to get up.
He never expected to see Amelia ready to die for him without a second thought. The sight left him stunned, but also filled him with an even deeper sense of guilt.
With a powerful tug, he pulled the still dazed woman into his embrace, lowered his head, and captured her red lips in a kiss.
Beyond her shock, Amelia Avery was filled with rage.
’Cassian Jennings had actually tricked her?’
’How could he use something like this to deceive her?’
"Mmph... b-bastard... let me go..." She pushed against the man on top of her with all her might, but she couldn’t budge him an inch.
In that moment, all of Cassian Jennings’s longing for her erupted.
Only he knew how much he had missed her, how desperately he wanted her. He held her in a death grip, refusing to let her escape his arms.
He wouldn’t let go, not even when she bit his lip hard enough to draw blood.
’This was his woman. Now that he had a chance to have her, he would never let her go again. He would absolutely not allow her to escape.’
Finally, under his overwhelming assault, Amelia Avery stopped struggling, but she still refused to yield.
She clutched the shard of glass in her hand, and blood began to drip from her palm.
Although it was his lip that was bleeding, Cassian Jennings sensed something was wrong with the woman in his arms. He couldn’t ignore the way her brow was furrowed in pain.
’So this is how painful it is for her to kiss him now?’
