Chapter 628: Chapter 620: Wrong Is Wrong

As if a sudden realization hit him, Cassian Jennings’s heart clenched, and he slowly released the woman in his arms.

He was weary, defeated, bitter, and aching. A torrent of unutterable emotions flooded his heart.

"I’m sorry." His voice was hoarse. After a long silence, he finally managed to say those two words.

Amelia Avery let out a cold laugh and snarled in fury, "Cassian Jennings, you’d actually stoop to tricking me like this?"

"—" He said nothing, only lowering his gaze slightly, hiding his thoughts from view.

When he didn’t respond, Amelia Avery got to her feet. Her body trembled with heartache, but her voice was unnervingly calm. Only someone who truly knew her would understand just how furious she was.

"I was so wrong about you!"

With that, she wiped away her tears and left without a backward glance.

In an instant, Cassian Jennings was the only one left in the private room.

The room was silent, so silent it felt oppressive.

It was almost hard to breathe.

When Amelia decided to leave Tridell that first time, he should have known there was no winning her back.

What’s lost is lost.

Not every mistake can be forgiven with a simple, "I’m sorry."

And the mistakes he had made were now utterly beyond forgiveness.

He sat on the floor, and an unknown amount of time passed before he finally came to his senses.

He pulled out his phone, made a call, and booked the earliest flight back to Tridell.

Three people, three different departure times.

Early that morning, on a flight just after six, Leo Joyce left.

Then, just after eight in the morning, Cassian Jennings also flew back.

What Cassian Jennings didn’t know was that around eleven, Amelia Avery was on a flight back as well.

Upon returning to Tridell, Cassian Jennings called his family first thing, then headed straight to the office.

From now on, besides burying himself in work to numb the pain, he had no idea what else to do.

A lot had happened in Tridell while Cassian Jennings was away.

For instance, the Joyce Family was facing an unprecedented financial crisis.

Also, LK Group, which Sovereign had gone to great lengths to acquire, had once again become an independent entity.

Furthermore, Sovereign and LK, once part of the same corporation, were now fierce competitors.

Rumor had it that Sovereign’s previous owner had nearly driven the company to bankruptcy due to a corporate data leak.

The former owner faced a lawsuit and nearly ended up in prison, but was spared jail time because she was pregnant.

As Cassian Jennings read these reports, his brow twitched uncontrollably.

He had only heard a few brief words from Ian Shaw, but he never imagined something so major had occurred in his absence.

Thankfully, Tristan Grayson and Mika Summers were both okay now.

And now, the person in charge of Sovereign was Tristan Grayson.

While Ian Shaw was heading LK.

Still, seeing it all laid out, he was stunned. He felt like he’d missed a huge drama.

After taking a moment to calm himself, Cassian Jennings picked up his phone and called Ian Shaw.

"I’m back," Cassian Jennings said coolly, his two words clipped and clear.

"Heh, you brat. Finally decided to grace us with your presence? What, given up on chasing after the Avery family’s little highness?" Ian Shaw’s teasing was as relentless as ever.

"How are Tristan and the others?"

"Well, well. Look who remembered he has other people to care about. Color me impressed."

"My phone’s about to die. Just tell me, are Tristan and Mika Summers okay?"

Clearly, Ian Shaw didn’t want to discuss it over the phone. After a long pause, he said coolly, "Tonight. Eight o’clock. The usual spot. Be there."

「Vespera, in a private room.」

Ian Shaw tossed his phone onto the table, his roguish gaze sweeping over the women dancing in the room.

A wicked smirk played on his lips.

Seeing that Ian Shaw was off the phone, one of the women immediately hurried over to him. She sat down beside him without a shred of ceremony, draping half of her body over his. "Shaw," she asked with a giggle, "what game should we play?"

"Whatever makes you happy," Ian Shaw replied coolly, his tone roguish, showing no hint of impatience.

"Oh, Shaw, I just heard that the young master of the Joyce family is back too."

At her words, Ian Shaw’s expression stiffened slightly. He pulled the woman into his arms and tilted her chin up with one hand. "And who told you that?" he asked, his voice dangerously smooth.

"My sister. She’s in the same class as Tiana. She just messaged me and said the Joyce family’s Little Tyrant got into a fight with a whole group at school. Apparently, he was in a foul mood because he found out Tiana had dropped out and was looking for a way to blow off steam. Then some punk at the school was dumb enough to pick a fight with Leo Joyce."

"Heh. So he finally decided to come back?"

"My sister said Leo was badly hurt. There were a lot of them, and he was all alone."
