Chapter 629: Chapter 621: Quite Rusty

Ian Shaw, who had his arm around a woman and had been watching the unfolding drama as if it had nothing to do with him, suddenly scowled, his expression darkening.

The woman in his arms, however, was completely oblivious and kept chattering away.

But Ian Shaw wasn’t listening. After taking a moment to compose himself, he pushed the woman away and stood up.

The woman stood there, completely baffled, with no idea what she could have said to make Shaw so suddenly angry. Just as she reached out to grab Ian Shaw and ask, he had already moved past the table and was walking toward the door.

Once outside the private room, Ian Shaw immediately called Cassian Jennings. He didn’t care if Cassian was jet-lagged or needed rest. As far as he was concerned, that coward Cassian really needed to get into a fight and stretch his muscles.

Cassian Jennings and Ian Shaw arrived at the school at almost the same time.

They grabbed the nearest person and, upon learning that Leo Joyce was fighting a group on the athletic field, immediately took off running in that direction.

Leo Joyce had never been on the losing end of anything, so this was arguably the first time he’d ever been at such a disadvantage. He was already a known troublemaker among the male students. Coupled with all the recent incidents involving the Joyce Family and the rampant rumors, very few people were willing to actually help him. In fact, most were just waiting to watch him make a fool of himself.

Even if they heard Young Master Joyce was being ganged up on at the athletic field, they wouldn’t lift a finger to help.

When Ian Shaw and Cassian Jennings arrived, they saw only three people on Leo Joyce’s side, while their opponents numbered over thirty.

This was far beyond a simple argument or fight. It was a full-blown group assault.

Leo Joyce was badly injured, and the other two guys were shielding him between them, trying to protect him from further harm.

Seeing Leo Joyce being protected by those two students, Ian Shaw, for a moment, felt as if he were looking at his younger self.

Back then, fights and group brawls were a daily occurrence for him.

But Tristan Grayson and Aiden Avery never fought. They rarely stooped to brawling with classless people. Tristan was typically the aloof, noble young master, while Aiden was the type to just be a quiet, handsome presence. Only he and Cassian Jennings would get into trouble with the local thugs.

Once, he got into an argument with a group of upperclassmen while playing basketball. After school, they cornered him on the athletic field. He was alone, surrounded and ganged up on by more than a dozen older guys. He’d always been a hell of a fighter, so even though they outnumbered him, they weren’t getting the upper hand.

Then, the ringleader called for backup from another school. At the time, Cassian Jennings wasn’t around, so the only ones who could possibly save him were Tristan Grayson and Aiden Avery.

He knew those two had always been pampered young masters, waited on hand and foot. He would never let them get involved in something as demeaning as a brawl.

Even if he were beaten to death, he would never cry out for help.

He didn’t know who ended up telling Tristan Grayson and Aiden Avery.

The two of them appeared just as he was beaten to the ground, unable to get back up. They shielded him, just like those two students were now doing for Leo.

It was from that moment he learned just how terrifying someone could be when they snapped. And it was from that moment that he truly, from the bottom of his heart, accepted them as his brothers.

Later, Cassian Jennings got the news and rushed over too. A rush of adrenaline coursed through him, and he completely forgot the pain in his body. The four of them ended up beating over forty people to the ground.

As he recalled his own hot-blooded youth, he looked back at the field where the mob of boys, some wielding stools and others bare-fisted, were charging at Leo Joyce and his friends.

His eyes turned red. Clenching his fists, he charged forward, grabbed the nearest guy by the shoulder, snatched the stool from his hands, and sent him flying with a vicious kick.

Seeing Ian Shaw jump into the fray so quickly, Cassian Jennings, who was already full of pent-up anger, saw his chance. He’d run into a group of kids just asking for a beating. Even though he was a man in his thirties, he charged in like a young hothead, grabbing one guy by the hair and yanking him back while kicking another one nearby.

The students may have had numbers on their side, but for a trained fighter like Ian Shaw who had been around, they were barely a warm-up.

In just a few minutes, Ian Shaw had already taken down more than ten of them, while Cassian Jennings had dropped five or six.

Leo Joyce had spotted Ian Shaw and Cassian Jennings the moment they intervened. As his two friends helped him up from the ground, he was overcome with a complex emotion that was difficult to put into words.

He didn’t know their motive for helping him, nor did he have any idea how they knew he was being jumped.

In just over ten minutes, all thirty-plus aggressors were down on the ground.

They stared at Ian Shaw and Cassian Jennings as if they were looking at ghosts, the fear in their eyes so great it made them forget their pain.

Apparently, Cassian Jennings was reminded of something too. When the fight was over, he looked at Ian Shaw and broke into a goofy grin.

Ian Shaw raised an eyebrow and snorted, crushing the mood. "I took down twenty-three."

Cassian Jennings rubbed his nose, embarrassed. "Ahem. I... scraped by with exactly eleven."

"A few years out of practice, and you’ve really gotten rusty," Ian Shaw said to Cassian Jennings with a smug chuckle.

Hearing the two of them banter, the girls who had gathered around the field to watch the spectacle all went wild.

In that instant, Ian Shaw and Cassian Jennings became the ultimate heartthrobs for every girl present.

Cassian Jennings paid Ian Shaw’s smug expression no mind. He walked over to Leo Joyce’s group. Seeing the cuts and bruises decorating Leo Joyce’s handsome face, he suddenly remembered something and let out a low, bitter, mocking chuckle.

Being suddenly mocked by his former love rival was more than Leo Joyce could take. He glared, his handsome eyes flashing with anger, and snapped, "Shut up!"

Cassian Jennings didn’t care about Leo Joyce’s attitude. He raised a provocative eyebrow. "Leo Joyce, remember the mess you made of my face back at the bar? Well, now it’s all over yours."

Hearing Cassian’s words, Leo Joyce’s anger actually subsided quite a bit, though he still felt the sting to his pride. After all, the two of them had a history of being completely at odds with each other.

And as for that Ian Shaw, he wanted nothing more than to tear him limb from limb.
