Divorce, Please: The Young Master Does Not Love Me
Chapter 630 - 622: Grown UpChapter 630: Chapter 622: Grown Up
Angry as he was, Leo Joyce wasn’t about to work against his own recovery.
Only by getting better would he have the strength to wash away the day’s humiliation.
Because the Joyce family couldn’t stand Ian Shaw, the responsibility of taking Leo Joyce and the others to the hospital fell to Cassian Jennings.
Cassian Jennings had no sooner gotten Leo Joyce to the hospital than Leo’s parents rushed over.
Julian Joyce immediately started berating Leo Joyce, his words tinged with resentment for Tiana, so Cassian Jennings lingered to listen for a moment before leaving.
After leaving the hospital, he saw a familiar car by the side of the road.
He didn’t walk toward his own car, heading for Ian Shaw first instead.
Once he was in the car, he asked coldly, "Spit it out. What exactly did you do to offend the Joyce family while I was gone? And what is the deal between you and Aria Joyce?"
He knew his brothers were capable and fearless, daring to provoke anyone. But what he couldn’t understand was why they would antagonize the Joyce family, especially when Tiana and Leo Joyce had a marriage contract.
Antagonizing them was one thing, but seeing the ferocity with which Ian Shaw fought today, it was obvious there was some sordid history between them that he didn’t know about.
"You already know everything you need to," Ian Shaw replied, his lips curling into a sarcastic sneer.
"Ian Shaw, do you think I’m that easy to fool? Or is the word ’moron’ plastered on my forehead?" ’Guilt and self-blame were never emotions he associated with this brother of his.’
’If Tristan Grayson was cold-blooded and ruthless, then Ian Shaw was that and then some!’
’Ian Shaw, who never showed a shred of pity for anyone, was now helping an enemy like Leo Joyce? He refused to believe things were as they seemed.’
Ian Shaw seemed agitated. He took out a pack of cigarettes, pulled one out for Cassian Jennings, and said in a cold, impatient voice, "Just smoke with me for a while."
Seeing that he was unwilling to talk, Cassian Jennings didn’t press the issue, though he had a vague inkling of what was going on.
He just didn’t want to believe it. The Ian Shaw he knew wasn’t the type to get entangled in matters of the heart.
Neither of them spoke. They just leaned back in their seats, lost in their own thoughts, and quietly smoked.
"A lot has happened lately. Right now, the Grayson and Joyce families are basically in total chaos."
"What exactly happened?"
Ian Shaw’s gaze was distant, his tone cool. "Tiana left the country. All of this gave Mika Summers depression, and she’s getting treatment now. Mrs. Grayson is in the hospital, too."
"How did we brothers get to this point?" ’His friend had just gotten married a few months ago. Cassian had thought that after everything they’d been through, Tristan and Mika would finally be happy. He never imagined things would fall apart again so soon.’
Ian Shaw let out a mocking laugh, then turned to him, his voice low and earnest. "I don’t know. But, Cassian Jennings, you need to understand something. We’ve all grown up. We’re not young anymore. It’s time for you to mature, too. Forget Amelia Avery. You need to shoulder your responsibilities. Mr. and Mrs. Jennings can’t handle any more drama."
"Heh. You don’t have to tell me. That was my plan already. I came back this time intending to forget her. What’s past is past. Nothing I do can make up for the mistakes I’ve made."
"As long as you understand that, I can relax."
"Eight o’clock tonight, let’s meet at Vespera. It’s been a long time since we all got together. We should have a proper talk."
"Yeah, got it," Cassian Jennings replied quietly. ’In a daze, he realized that now that he had truly decided to let go of a relationship that never should have happened, his heart didn’t ache so much anymore.’
After saying goodbye to Cassian Jennings, Ian Shaw went to the cemetery.
He expertly found Aria Joyce’s headstone and sat on the ground before it. Looking at the photo of her laughing happily, he felt no particular emotion, only a profound sense of calm.
He held a rose up to her picture, a roguish smirk playing on his lips. "I don’t know if you like roses. From what I remember, you were never the type of woman who was into flowers."
"But I do." He lowered his head to smell the rose in his hand. "Aria Joyce," he said softly, "if you hate me, you should come haunt my dreams more often. You have no idea... I haven’t dreamed of you once since you died. I’m even starting to forget what you look like."
"It’s strange. I’ve slept with so many women, but I can’t really remember most of them."
"So why is it you I can’t forget? Aria Joyce, shouldn’t you feel honored?"
"Sigh... well, seeing as you’re being quiet, I’ll forgive you for not visiting my dreams lately. Aren’t I generous? What’s wrong with me? I, Ian Shaw, have never been a generous man."
"Aria Joyce, do you remember that video? I was originally planning to release it after you died. I wanted to make you famous all over Tridell." He paused, raising a hand to touch the cold headstone, an indescribable complexity stirring in his heart.
"Aria Joyce, you’re such a coward. You promised you wouldn’t let me off the hook even in death. But look at you. You’ve been dead all this time and you still don’t have the guts to come get your revenge. Ugh, I really look down on you for that! I hold you in serious contempt."
Even when visiting the dead, Ian Shaw’s infuriating mouth was still the same.
It was as if he were really talking with Aria Joyce.
Sometimes, even he didn’t understand why he came here. He just felt that whenever he was utterly exhausted, soul-deep tired, he could find some peace here.
Every time he came here, his heart would always feel surprisingly calm.
He caressed the headstone as if he were caressing Aria Joyce herself. Though its coldness seeped into his bones, he found the feeling... nice.
He stayed there until it was dark before getting up to leave.
「Vespera, 8:00 p.m.」
The four brothers were gathered together again. This time, the previous distance between them was gone.
Instead, they drank and talked with abandon.
After all that had happened, they had truly grown up, completely matured.
When each of them smiled, fine wrinkles fanned out from the corners of their eyes.
"Whatever you’re planning to do, just go for it. If you’re short on capital, you can ask me to invest."
Cassian Jennings laughed. "Alright, in that case, I won’t be polite."
"We’re family, no need for formalities," Tristan Grayson said, waving a dismissive hand. But then a thought occurred to him, and he looked up at the others. "Mika and I have talked it over. After my mom gets out of the hospital, we’re going to take the family and travel for a while. When that happens, Ian, I’m entrusting my company’s affairs to you. Also, Quincy’s not a kid anymore. It’s time to start training him to take over. I think he’s more scared of you, so he’ll probably listen."
