Chapter 632: Chapter 624: Forget

Seeing how calm Cassian Jennings was, Ian Shaw curled his lips into a smirk and pulled the women on either side of him into a tight embrace. "We’re going to go dance. The rest of you stay here and keep Master Jennings company. Whoever’s lucky enough to catch his eye tonight, I’ll personally take you shopping tomorrow. Pick out anything you want."

The moment they heard this, all the women eagerly crowded around Cassian Jennings. A few even started raising their glasses to toast him.

Seeing this, Cassian Jennings speechlessly rolled his eyes at Ian Shaw.

’What does he take me for?’

’Even if he wants me to forget Amelia Avery, he didn’t have to resort to this, making me fool around with these women.’

Still, it was a gesture from a friend, and he couldn’t just refuse it outright.

What he didn’t realize, however, was that in Ian Shaw’s eyes, his silence was proof that a leopard can’t change its spots.

After all, Master Jennings’s playboy reputation wasn’t for nothing.

Once Ian Shaw had left with nearly half of the women, Cassian Jennings’s patience ran out. He stood up, tossed back the rest of his wine, and swept his gaze over the women in the room with their fake, fawning smiles. His lips curled into a mocking, roguish smirk. He pulled out his wallet. There wasn’t much cash inside, only about three or four thousand, but he tossed it all onto the table without counting.

The women looked at the money on the table, their faces filled with confusion.

Cassian Jennings assumed they thought it wasn’t enough. "This is all I have on me for now," he said, his voice cold and laced with irritation. "If it’s not enough, I’ll have someone send you more in the morning."

"Master Jennings, you’ve misunderstood..." one of the women began, having instantly grasped his meaning. She rushed to explain.

But Cassian Jennings had no desire to listen to their explanations. "I’ll call someone to have the money for the drinks sent over right now," he cut in. "If Ian Shaw asks, just tell him I was very satisfied."

After saying his piece, he walked straight around the table and headed for the door.

Outside the private room, Cassian Jennings heard familiar music.

His feet seemed to move of their own accord, carrying him in the direction of the dancing. One look was all it took to see Ian Shaw on the dance floor with a few women.

He looked down and gave a self-deprecating smile. Perhaps it was because he’d heard Amelia Avery was back that he thought she might come to a place like this.

Once outside Vespera, a blast of cold wind hit him, instantly clearing much of the alcohol-induced haze from his mind.

He didn’t head for his car, choosing instead to wander down the main street.

He was so incredibly familiar with this area. Even with his eyes closed, he would know where everything was.

But sometimes, a person could come to hate that very sense of familiarity.

Because with familiarity, certain sights could trigger a flood of memories.

Before he knew it, he had wandered near a small alley.

He looked up and saw that the alley was bustling now; it had been converted into a food street.

And yet, a dull ache started in his heart.

Less than a hundred meters ahead, beneath two large trees... that was the spot. It was right there that he had taken Amelia’s first time.

A girl’s first time, the most important one of her life, had been taken by him so crudely.

And afterward, he had even cruelly told her to forget all about it.

He clearly remembered looking back at her. He could still see her wretched figure, clutching her clothes tightly, her entire body trembling. He hadn’t known if it was from the pain or from anger.

In that moment, his heart had actually softened. He’d even thought that if it hadn’t been Amelia—if it had been any other woman—he would have run back, pulled her into a tight embrace, and promised her the world.
