Chapter 634: Chapter 626: I Miss You

There was no grand opening line, no honeyed words of dialogue. Yet those four simple words were instantly etched into her heart.

He missed her, and she, in turn, missed him just as much.

How she longed to be impulsive just once, to tell him out loud, ’Cassian, I miss you too.’

But she could never bring herself to say the words. Her lips parted several times, but in the end, she could only swallow the immense longing she felt.

When two people have hurt each other too deeply, there’s no point in trying to be together again.

Just like her and Cassian.

In the past, she had been selfish and domineering, forcing her way into his life without any regard for his feelings. In the end, it only proved how absurdly wrong she had been, hurting him and herself in the process.

Now, she knew she was wrong, truly understood it. But sadly, there was no going back.

He waited several minutes, but Amelia didn’t reply. All he could faintly hear from the other end of the line was her unsteady breathing and the soft rustling of the wind.

He took a few steps forward and looked at the wall, which was nearly two meters high. His eyes darkened. Shoving his phone into his pocket, he leaped, placed a hand on top of the wall, and vaulted over.

The thud of his landing wasn’t loud, but it was enough to make Amelia snap out of her daze.

She frantically wiped her tears away and turned to look.

As she watched Cassian Jennings straighten up and walk slowly toward her, her heart began to pound erratically.

Her heart hammered a little faster with every step he took.

She was like an unfeeling puppet, just staring blankly at him.

When he reached Amelia’s side, Cassian took the phone out of his pocket and put it to his ear. His handsome eyes, full of tenderness, were fixed on Amelia. In a gentle, pleasant voice, he slowly said, "Silly girl, if you’re willing, you don’t ever have to grow up. Just let me protect you and cherish you from now on, okay?"

"Okay." She wasn’t sure why, but on some inexplicable impulse, she choked out her reply and nodded.

When he heard Amelia’s response, a goofy, dopey grin stretched Cassian’s lips, and he beamed at her.

The Cassian of the past could charm a whole crowd of girls with his smile. But the him of today... he just looked like a big, goofy idiot when he smiled.

But this goofy Cassian was the one Amelia couldn’t look away from. In fact, she was even more captivated by him than she had ever been before.

Cassian hung up and put the phone back in his pocket. He walked behind Amelia and, reaching out, began to push her gently on the swing.

Just like when they were children.

On the second-floor balcony, Aiden Avery watched the pair in the yard and smiled a wry, resigned smile.

He turned and went back inside, setting the cup in his hand on a table. He then took out his phone and called his parents, who were far away in Noridia.

He told them it was time to come home.

Cassian and Amelia didn’t speak. They didn’t hold hands, let alone hug or kiss.

They were like strangers, yet there was a warmth between them far greater than any two strangers could share.

Neither of them was willing to be the first to speak, to shatter this rare moment of bliss.

An hour slipped by without them realizing it, yet Cassian didn’t feel the slightest ache in his arms.

In fact, he felt he could go on for several more hours without any trouble at all.

Amelia, however, was growing drowsy from the constant, gentle swaying. As reluctant as she was for the moment to end, she couldn’t resist the encroaching waves of sleep.
