Divorce, Please: The Young Master Does Not Love Me
Chapter 635 - 627: So That’s How It IsChapter 635: Chapter 627: So That’s How It Is
Noticing Amelia was getting sleepy, Cassian Jennings slowly brought the swing to a stop. He gripped the ropes on either side and said softly, "If you’re tired, you should head inside and get some rest."
"Okay." A flicker of sadness crossed Amelia Avery’s eyes as she listened to Cassian Jennings. She nodded, stood up, and started walking toward the house. She didn’t say anything more, nor did she betray the slightest hint of reluctance to leave.
Seeing that Amelia was about to disappear inside, he panicked and blurted out, "Amelia, I’ll come see you tomorrow."
At the sound of his voice, she paused. Turning back, she replied faintly, "I know."
"Get some rest, then." ’Looking at the woman just a few steps away, he couldn’t bear to let her go inside. He desperately wanted to pull her into a tight embrace and kiss her fiercely, to pour out all the longing he’d felt for so long.’
’But he didn’t dare. He was afraid he’d scare her off.’
’He’d already scared her once before he came back. So, until she gave him permission, he wouldn’t dare touch her.’
’It was almost laughable, really. A situation like this... wasn’t it already good enough?’
’And yet here he was, greedy enough to hope for more.’
’Just having Amelia not run from him, willing to see him, to talk to him—that was already the best possible outcome.’
"Mm-hm." Amelia Avery nodded, her gaze complex.
Her faint tone didn’t dishearten him in the slightest. On the contrary, he felt a genuine happiness and bliss welling up from deep inside. He smiled and said softly, "Goodnight."
"Goodnight," Amelia replied with a smile of her own.
His heart gave a little flutter. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he put on a relaxed, roguish smile. "Call me if you need anything."
"Okay."
Emboldened by Amelia’s rare compliance, he pushed his luck a little. "You can call me even if you don’t need anything."
"Alright." Amelia Avery’s lips curved into a resigned, yet sweet, smile as she nodded.
He froze. Her smile hit him all at once, leaving him completely dazed.
Beyond the simple flutter of attraction, he felt a rush of flustered infatuation.
’He hadn’t seen her smile like that in years. It was so beautiful.’
’Not an artificial, seductive kind of glamour, but a beauty that came from deep within.’
He truly was stunned, and the affection in his eyes grew more and more intense.
Being stared at so intensely by Cassian Jennings made her feel uncomfortable and shy. Her cheeks started to burn. She raised a hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear and asked with a slightly unnatural smile, "Is there anything else?"
"Actually, you can call me anytime, whether you need something or not," Cassian Jennings said with a nod, his smile half-joking and half-serious.
At that, Amelia Avery lowered her head and let out a soft laugh. "I don’t have that much free time," she said.
He slipped back into his old roguish, devil-may-care persona, one that made it impossible not to be captivated by his every expression and every move. "But I have plenty of free time. I’ll be waiting for your call. If you don’t call me, then I’ll..."
Amelia Avery asked with feigned surprise, "Then you’ll what?"
"Then I’ll just have to call you every single day. I’ll call you until you get so annoyed that... no, that’s not right. I’ll call you until you finally can’t take it anymore and have to call me."
"And why would I have to call you?"
Cassian Jennings replied, looking very serious and earnest, "Because you’ll want to yell at me."
Hearing Cassian’s explanation, Amelia Avery covered her mouth and laughed. ’So that’s his plan!’
’Being humorous, witty, and knowing how to win a girl’s heart really were Cassian Jennings’s greatest strengths. Having not seen him for so long, Amelia had almost forgotten.’
