Of the two elk, Chu Liangyu ate an entire one by herself. Only after she had just about finished did Xiang Qiancheng start on what was left.

Chu Liangyu wasn’t so sleepy anymore. The way Xiang Qiancheng ate was quite refined, making him rather pleasant to watch.

After watching for a while, she grew a little bored and shifted her attention to her clone.

----

"Female Master, I feel like something’s not quite right here."

By now, the sky had grown completely dark. Jinling had to find a place sheltered from the wind to set up a temporary lean-to. But after he finished, he looked at the surrounding landscape and was suddenly struck by an ominous feeling.

Through her clone, Chu Liangyu didn’t sense anything wrong, so she asked him, "Is there some kind of danger nearby?"

"Not exactly. I just feel that the aura here is very strange. I can’t quite put my finger on it, it’s just a gut feeling."

Hearing him say that, Chu Liangyu’s curiosity was piqued. "Forget about setting up for now. Come with me, and let’s find out where that strange feeling is coming from."

"But it’s already so late. If we run into any danger..."

Jinling himself wasn’t afraid. He was just worried that her body, having only just recovered, wouldn’t be able to handle it. That’s why he was so hesitant.

But seeing how eager she was to investigate, he didn’t have the heart to refuse.

"I’m perfectly fine now. Besides, didn’t you just say there wasn’t any danger? Come on, let’s go take a look together."

Before he could say anything more, Chu Liangyu had already led the way out.

In the darkness, the area seemed far too quiet. Chu Liangyu looked up at the sky; it seemed even darker here than anywhere else.

They had set up their shelter next to a towering, ancient tree. In a ten-meter radius with that tree at its center, there were no weeds or other trees.

Beyond that radius, the land was vibrant with life. It was as if this small patch of ground and the area around it were two separate worlds.

The contrast made it obvious. The source of the problem had to be the ancient tree.

So, Chu Liangyu walked back and stood beneath the ancient tree, quietly gazing toward its crown. But the canopy was so dense that she couldn’t even see the moon.

"Jinling, do you think there might be something up there?" Chu Liangyu mused for a moment before turning her head to ask the man standing beside her.

Jinling also looked up at the crown before replying, "It’s very likely."

Chu Liangyu smiled. "Then why don’t you go up and take a look?"

’That’s what I was waiting for,’ she thought. After all, her clone didn’t have her true abilities, and she couldn’t risk exposing that fact over such a small matter.

"All right. Female Master, you be careful down here. If you run into any danger, be sure to call for me."

Chu Liangyu nodded and urged him on, "Got it. Hurry up and go take a look."

The ancient tree was massive, but for a Beastman, climbing even the tallest tree was like walking on level ground.

At first, Chu Liangyu could still see him climbing, but as he went higher and higher, his figure gradually disappeared from view.

This proved that the tree was truly massive. By the time Jinling’s voice drifted down, Chu Liangyu could only faintly make it out.

She couldn’t make out the words clearly, but it sounded like he had found something and was now on his way down with it.

Climbing up was easy, but coming down was not so simple. Chu Liangyu had waited so long she was getting sleepy again by the time she finally spotted Jinling’s figure.

After a few more leaps, Jinling finally landed. He was still panting slightly as he handed what he was holding to Chu Liangyu.

"I saw this up there. It seemed a little strange, so I brought it down."

It was a black stone the size of a pigeon’s egg, engraved with several patterns. Looking at the craftsmanship, Chu Liangyu felt it was the handiwork of the deceased Ye Han.

She wasn’t very familiar with these things. Perhaps she could wait for that High Priest to arrive at the tribe and ask him about it.

Their worlds operated on different systems, but there were bound to be some similarities.

This object reminded Chu Liangyu of something else.

Back when Lou Sang had possessed a young Mermaid to guide her to Ye Han’s heart, that heart had also been sealed within a giant black stone.

Could this pigeon-egg-sized black stone also be one of his organs?

Chu Liangyu grimaced, suddenly feeling a wave of disgust.

She had no idea what kind of peculiar hobby that guy had, being so keen on dismantling himself and scattering the pieces all over the place.

The heart she had shared with Xiong Jiaojiao had been consumed purely to increase their strength. Since his other parts didn’t have the same effect, Chu Liangyu’s curiosity had waned considerably.

Still, it was improper to rely on guesswork alone. Chu Liangyu didn’t throw the object away. Instead, she put it away, deciding to wait until she reunited with her main body to see if she could brute-force it open like last time.

If that didn’t work, there was always her other plan: ask the High Priest who was possessed by an Otherworldly Soul.

Strangely enough, ever since the black stone had come into her possession, the area around the ancient tree no longer seemed so dark.

"Female Master, now that we’ve found this, why don’t you go back and rest? I’ll go see if there’s any prey nearby."

Jinling wiped the sweat from his brow, then turned to survey the surrounding woods. "It should be safe here," he said. "I’ll be back soon."

"Okay, I understand."

Chu Liangyu had no objection and directed her clone back to the simple lean-to.

----

Meanwhile, Chu Liangyu’s main body had been watching Xiang Qiancheng eat for a long time, her chin propped in her hand.

Xiang Qiancheng did his best to ignore her stare, but he still felt so uncomfortable that he finished his meal without tasting a single bite.

"Female Master, it’s getting late. You should get some rest."

He paused, then added, a little shyly, "If you want to keep looking at me, you can do it again tomorrow."

Chu Liangyu had only been staring because she was bored, with most of her consciousness focused on her clone. Snapping back to the present, she saw his bashful expression and, not quite understanding why, subconsciously replied, "Ah, right. Let’s get some rest then."

The firelight flickered, and the world outside the cave entrance was pitch black. Chu Liangyu stared out into the darkness for a long time before slowly closing her eyes.

Despite being the one who suggested they rest, Xiang Qiancheng took it upon himself to stand watch. He leaned against the cave entrance, gently tending the fire to keep it from dying out.

And so it went until the sky grew pale with dawn, at which point both parties set out on their respective journeys to the tribe.

The clone was carried by Jinling in his beast form, and they made it back to the tribe in just half a day.

At that moment, Xiong Jiaojiao was in the square, teaching Body Technique to the young ones. When she suddenly saw the familiar figure appear, she couldn’t quite process it at first.

"Sister Liangyu!"

Xiong Jiaojiao was like a fluttering moth, diving headfirst into Chu Liangyu’s arms and clinging on so tightly she couldn’t be pulled off.

"Jiaojiao, I need to ask you something."

The smile on Chu Liangyu’s face was inscrutable, giving Xiong Jiaojiao a bad feeling.

Swallowing hard, Xiong Jiaojiao nodded. "Okay... Sister Liangyu, go ahead and ask."
