Dragon Genesis: I Can Create Dragons
Chapter 667: What the world thinks doesn’t matter to me."How strong are you right now?"
Elira questioned curiously and Lavinia—
"Well, that doesn’t matter, now does it?"
She only smiled.
"Huh? What do you mean? It matters now more than it ever di—"
"Elira."
Before Elira could say anything else, Veylara gave her ’the look’ and Elira instantly turned silent.
Veylara then looked at Lavinia, the former Princess looked back with a light smile on her face. Veylara’s eyes then moved to Kael.
"Teacher."
Kael smiled.
"You grew."
Veylara praised.
"A little."
Kael kept the same smile on his face and Veylara—
She looked at him, at the army standing behind him, at the large Dragon she could sense sitting not far from here, keeping an eye on her.
She looked at his posture, at his face that now seemed far different than the innocent face she saw when she first met him and she—
"You call this a little?"
"I still have a lot of room to grow."
"Do you even realise how terrifying that sounds?"
Veylara sighed. Kael only stared at her and just then—
"Oi! Stop eyeing my mother."
Arlan stepped towards Kael.
Kael looked at him, for a moment, none of them said anything, but just as Kael was about to defend himself and say he only had eyes for his Lavinia—
Arlan suddenly hugged him and that made Kael freeze for a second.
"It is good to see you."
Arlan spoke in a soft voice.
He didn’t cry like Elira did, but Kael could sense the relief in his voice, that made him smile.
"You too."
The hug lasted a few seconds, then, Arlan moved away and—
"Also, I hate the way you talk now."
He complained.
"What do you mean?"
Kael tilted his head, confused.
"Your voice feels... heavy."
"Well, I have been weightlifting with my tongue these days. Maybe that’s showing results?"
Kael tried to joke but—
"Wow, you can’t even make a good joke now. Oh, how far have you fallen~"
Arlan shook his head dramatically.
Kael only stared at him, Arlan on the other hand, placed a hand on his shoulder and—
"Don’t worry, as reluctant as I am, I will still be your friend."
"Wow, I am so grateful."
Kael answered sarcastically, Arlan only nodded.
"It is alright. They say you need to spend time with some fools to know how far you’ve come."
"..."
Kael only stared at this man, his mouth twitching in annoyance. For a moment, he wanted to slam the man on the ground, but he held that urge back.
Instead, he turned towards Veylara and—
"Teacher."
He called out.
"Since you are all already here, please visit the city. There’s no point talking here in the snow."
"I’ve been waiting for you to say that."
Veylara nodded.
Kael nodded back with a smile. Then, Veylara and the other two quickly climbed onto Inkar’s back.
"You want to come?"
Veylara questioned.
"No, that’s alright."
Kael just smiled, then, he picked Lavinia up in his arms and—
He stepped in the air.
"Follow me."
He spoke with a smile, however, just as he was about to leave—
"Wait wait wait wait! What do you mean follow me!? Are we just going to ignore the fact that he’s flying!?"
Elira snapped.
Arlan looked equally surprised. Kael however, only looked back at them and—
"I am a Hero, I can do that."
"No you cannot—"
Elira was about to point out how absurd, bogus and unhelpful that statement was, Kael however—
"Follow me."
He spoke as he then pushed against the air and moved.
"He..."
Elira and Arlan couldn’t believe it.
Veylara on the other hand, tapped on Inkar’s back and Inkar took off, instantly catching up to Kael before slowing down.
The two flew side by side, Veylara glanced at Kael flying in the air and—
"You really have grown quite a bit."
"Thank you."
Kael looked at her with a smile. Veylara nodded back, then, her eyes fell on the large Steel Dragon she could see from here.
"Is that... him? Lord Ferrakar?"
"Yes."
Kael nodded.
"You really awakened a twelve-hundred-year-old Guardian Beast huh..."
Arlan couldn’t help but look at Kael in awe.
"Well, I just got lucky."
Kael chuckled. Arlan stared at him with a deadpan look on his face and Veylara—
"Your luck has put us into a troublesome situation."
She sighed.
Those words made both Kael and Lavinia look at her, Veylara noticed that gaze and she—
"Don’t look at me like that. You should know it better than me, you were the ones who made the announcement."
"Technically, it was Ferrakar."
Kael corrected, Veylara only looked at him and—
"Was he also the one who came up with the name Kael Dragonborn?"
For a moment, that question made Kael silent, then he shrugged.
"No, I told him that. Why? Am I not supposed to tell him my own name?"
Veylara looked at Kael for a moment. Honestly, she couldn’t help but inwardly nod at how even she couldn’t read his face anymore. She remembered how the boy struggled to keep a poker face but...
"Don’t play ignorant in front of me, Kael.
You know what you’ve done."
"I didn’t do anything, I only took my wife’s name because I do not hold any attachment to my own."
And he wasn’t wrong.
He truly wasn’t attached to his name.
Kael was an orphan in his own world, he had no ’family name’ to speak of. The only reason he even chose the name Carter as his birth name was because of a few forms he needed to sign in school, he found it annoying to constantly explain how he didn’t have a last name, so he gave himself one.
But—
"No, you did not take your wife’s name."
Veylara, however, shook her head as she looked at Kael with piercing eyes.
"Even your wife can no longer use that name.
That right was taken away from her a long time ago."
"Wrongfully."
Kael corrected as he stared back into Veylara’s piercing eyes without an inch of fear.
"It doesn’t matter."
Veylara shook her head.
"Wrongfully or not, her title and name were stripped off when she was exiled from the Kingdom."
"That’s what you think."
"No, that’s what the world thinks."
"And what the world thinks doesn’t matter to me."
Kael did not back down.
