"Wrongfully or not, her title and name were stripped off when she was exiled from the Kingdom."
"That’s what you think."
"No, that’s what the world thinks."
"And what the world thinks doesn’t matter to me."
Kael did not back down.
"What matters is what me and my wife want. My wife’s name cannot be taken away by a man who himself is a disgrace to that name."
"That ’disgrace’ is the King of Drakthar."
Kael only laughed at those words.
"You talk as if that matters to me."
At those words, Veylara turned silent. She only looked at Kael, trying to read his face and this time, Kael did not hide his hatred for the so-called King. He let Veylara read it as much as she wanted.
Veylara stared at him for a long time.
Arlan and Elira stayed silent during the entire conversation, they only looked at Kael and noticed how much the boy they had once trained had changed.
Now he...
He truly looked like a Hero who was prepared to protect the World.
"You don’t like the King."
Veylara commented.
Kael only smiled.
"Let’s not bring that topic up right now, come in, have something to eat."
Veylara nodded.
Honestly, she too, wanted to see what Kael had built, so she dropped the topic and Inkar, together with Kael, landed in the city.
The people stared at them.
The Stormholds stared back, they were even more surprised than the Tribesmen. The Stormborns had been looking for Kael for a long time now. The Ashen Heights was one of the places in their list of possible places he could be in.
And honestly, according to them, the chances of him being here were pretty high.
The Stormholds were actually thinking of visiting the place and finding him but in the end, they held back.
They did not wish to find Kael.
He left on his own and the Stormholds knew he must have a reason for that. They feared that if they went to him on their own, they might scare him or ruin whatever plans he had. Not to mention, the Stormholds knew there were eyes on them.
The Drakthar Council was already suspicious that they knew where Kael was, they were denying it, but if they visited the Heights, the Council would know and if Kael was actually here...
It would become troublesome.
So instead, the Stormholds waited. They began learning about the Heights, about the Velmourns, about their history and whatnot.
When Ferrakar made the announcement to the entire World, the Stormholds saw this as a signal that Kael was now prepared, that was the reason they came.
And because they had done their homework, when they walked into the Velmourn City, they... couldn’t help but be surprised.
All these tribes, that according to the information they had, would tear each other apart because of generations of enmity between them—
Were now united.
They were living in the same city, standing next to each other...
Kael he...
He united the Heights!
He single-handedly united the people who had been enemies for hundreds of years and he did it all in a matter of a few weeks.
Just how...
The Stormholds couldn’t believe it.
Elira and Arlan were openly staring at Kael in shock. They wanted to tease him, to say that he couldn’t have possibly done it on his own, that Lavinia must have been the one to do it but...
They could see the truth, right in these people’s eyes.
They respected Lavinia, yes.
But for Kael—
They held a fierce, almost blind loyalty.
Some of them practically worshiped him.
"Please ignore the state of the place, we just survived a war, so the people are still on edge, most are busy taking care of the injured and doing other essential tasks."
Kael spoke with a smile.
"A War...?"
Arlan’s eyes changed at those words.
Elira, however, had a different question.
"Against who...?"
She couldn’t understand.
All the Tribes she knew about were already here, then who did they battle against? Was there another tribe they did not know about?
Kael looked at Elira, then for a moment, his face turned solemn.
"I’ll get to that."
He was already planning to show them the enemies they had captured and the state they were in.
He wanted to request the use of Verdant Omen to confirm his suspicions and he could only do it through them since he had no other contacts.
Elira looked at Kael’s face and nodded. Kael nodded back, then, he brought the three into his Quarters.
There, he gave them Divine Rations that the Elderly cooked for them.
"What is this!? It’s so delicious!"
Elira’s eyes instantly brightened up.
Kael smiled.
"It’s our speciality."
Veylara on the other hand, narrowed her eyes.
"The Mornmelts..."
Kael looked at her when she said those words. This was the first time someone recognised this food was made by the Mornmelt Ants and though it did surprise him a little, he didn’t show it on his face.
"Right."
He just nodded as if it was the most natural thing to do, skipping the topic altogether.
’She knows quite a lot...
Mornmelts aren’t very commonly known since they fear humans.’
Imperia commented, staring at Veylara.
’As expected of an old hag.’
Kael shook his head inwardly. He noticed Veylara staring at him and for a moment, his body trembled. The woman truly did make him wonder if she actually had an ability to read his mind.
That hasn’t changed even now.
For now, however—
"Eat."
He smiled.
"We have a lot of catching up to do."
"Well, at least you know how to treat your guests, I guess you aren’t a complete monkey."
Elira spoke as she stuffed her mouth with food.
"It must be Lavinia’s influence."
Arlan spoke and Elira actually nodded, agreeing with her brother for a change.
"You are correct."
She looked at Kael and—
"You really lucked out, didn’t you?"
"I did."
Kael nodded with a smile.
Lavinia smiled at those words, Arlan noticed that.
"Is her... face red?"
He pointed out.
Lavinia glared at him and he quickly shifted close to his mother.
"You are a Demi God’s child, for god’s sake.
Stop shifting close to me!"
Veylara snorted.
The group laughed.
Kael laughed with them.
For a change, this felt... oddly nice.
