A jolt ran through Kael's body. He lurched forward, a strange sensation overcoming him. Godly Focus flickered off, his eyes suddenly turning reptilian, and it wasn't in the normal sense. Though, the sight only lasted for a split moment, and soon after, Kael found everything return to normal.

Kael was so lost that he didn't notice the strange message that flashed before him for a moment. He greedily took in the air like someone who had been drowning.

A few minutes passed before he regained control of himself.

'What the hell just happened?'

A flicker of fear flashed within his eyes. He had felt at that moment as if his essence had changed, as if his DNA had been rewired. It was a strangely disconcerting feeling, and for a moment he found himself wondering if he should continue trying to awaken such a strange power.

'No, I don't really have a choice. If I don't grow stronger quickly, this god-forsaken apocalypse would likely do the job. Might as well see this through to the end.'

With his thoughts made up, he moved back towards the now-struggling undead.

'I have met two requirements, and they had to do with devouring flesh and blood. I don't know if it must be a live one, but I also don't have the mind to test it out.'

To Kael, eating the flesh from a truly dead zombie and a live one wasn't so different. And he didn't want to take the risk. What if a dead one didn't work? Wouldn't that mean he would have to consume the flesh twice?

Kael quickly covered his mouth, as he suddenly felt nauseous. He quickly diverted his mind to other things, which helped alleviate the feeling.

'So what's next?'

Kael stared at the undead fixedly, thinking of what he should do now.

'Is it the bones? Nah, that would be stupid, not to mention impossible. The skeletal frame of these creatures would have become far tougher than before.'

'Then is it the organs? Hugh, just the thought makes me feel like vomiting once more.'

'Wait...'

'Don't tell me it's the brain or heart?'

This was the next logical step Kael could think of. A strange expression appeared on Kael's face, one that would have been very funny from an outsider's perspective. But to Kael, this situation wasn't funny at all.

Kael stood there for over an hour, a troubled look on his face, and a fierce battle taking place within his mind, while an undead kept trying to crawl towards him. But no matter how he tried to convince himself that he had to do this for his survival, to protect his family and friends, and for any number of other reasons, he just couldn't bring himself to do it.

As he stood there struggling with himself, a light bulb suddenly lit up within his mind.

He had read within the Archive fragment that once a creature breaks into the First Order, their heart would stop serving as the regulator for their mana and instead a core would be formed in their abdomen.

'What if...'

Kael didn't hesitate. He summoned his gauntlet to cover his right hand, kicked the undead onto its back, and plunged his hand into the monster's abdomen by strengthening his body's strength with Energi.

Kael fiddled around for a while before his now-gauntleted hand wrapped around an object. Then, with a strong tug, he pulled it out.

-ROAR!

The undead suddenly roared to the skies fiercely, and soon after, the mana in its body went haywire. Kael's Danger Sense tingled, and without hesitation, he stomped onto the ground and flew back into the academy perimeter, covering over ten meters with a single jump.

The zombie gave one final shriek before it suddenly imploded in on itself.

Kael gazed at the sight for a moment before turning his eyes to his hand.

There, in his palm, lay a small round object, half the size of an egg, well, if it were also rounded.

The core felt cold to the touch, but not in the ordinary sense. It was a penetrating chill that seemed to seep directly into his flesh, yet, though he found the sensation a bit disturbing, he also found it strangely comforting.

The more he looked at the core, the more a strange hunger rose within him. An instinct that almost made him swallow the core there and then, but Kael repressed it with all his might.

Not only did he fear what would happen if he should devour the core in such an open and dangerous space, but just how the hell would he swallow such an object? While the object appeared small in his hand, to his throat it would feel like forcing down an oversized marble.

'I will think of this later. But where should I keep it? Can it even enter my spatial ring?'

The thought had barely formed when an explosion came from far behind him.

Kael quickly turned, and what he saw made his eyes constrict.

'It's coming from the second floor! Just what is happening?'

With the activation of his mythical skill, Kael's senses sharpened, allowing him to pick up the faint sounds of screams.

Kael didn't dare hesitate any longer.

He boosted his agility by more than forty points and quickly ran towards the main building.
