ENERGI: THE PRIMORDIAL CONDUIT[OP MC, APOCALYPSE, SURVIVAL, AND LITRPG]
CHAPTER 82: INTROSPECTIONAN: Thanks for reading😁.
*****
Kael pulled his hands out of his pants as he watched the boy around the same age as Natalie who was pointing a gun at him.
He was almost a bit pissed that the other would stop him at the door. Since when did this place become theirs? But he instantly pressed that feeling down. He wasn't so arrogant as to think he could ignore a firearm at point-blank range, especially not one strengthened by the system.
Of course, he had also bought guns from the system, two handguns actually, together with the Beginner Marksmanship skill which he had learned. It was just that rather than strapping them out in the open, he had kept them in his space ring.
After all, all he needed was a thought to summon them right into his hands.
“What do you want?” the boy asked.
Kael sighed.
“Why don't you put the gun down first? It is not needed. I am no monster.”
Even with his team around, Kael felt strange surrounded by other survivors. Of course, it wasn't that he couldn't ignore them, after all, he had always stayed in a class with his peers. It was just that, with Natalie having praised him to the high heavens, every eye was looking at him as if he were some rare specimen. He also didn't want to partake in the food they were sharing. After all, he hadn't contributed. He sure as hell minded sharing his life-earned coins with others, but that didn't mean he was shameless enough to receive for free. Finally, he had decided to check out the other areas before returning to his room and commencing his training.
But who would have thought he would be stopped right at the entrance? Did he really need a reason to enter?
It was then Kael heard strange sounds. He swiftly spread his senses out, carefully navigating around bodies so as not to glimpse their naked figures.
But what he saw made him subconsciously activate his skill.
[Godly Focus has been activated.]
Kael's eyes suddenly erupted into a furious blue glow, every emotion stirring within him thrown to the back of his mind. He entered a state of detachment, his mind sharpening into razor-like focus. But he hadn't thought of what would happen next.
The boy whose nerves were already stretched taut suddenly shouted before retreating.
“Put your hands in the air, now! Raise them now or I will shoot!”
The suffocating pressure that had suddenly erupted from Kael almost made him fire, and if it wasn't for his fear of having never shot a person or even used a gun, he would have fired almost instinctively.
Even Rachel, who was a bit behind, was now trembling with shaken eyes.
What Kael didn't know was that entering Godly Focus made him release an aura that suffocated those of weaker minds. How could the elevation to a higher race grade, even partial, temporary, or incomplete, be so simple?
“I SAID RAISE YOUR HANDS!” the boy shouted once more, sweat pooling into his eyes, but he didn't dare shut them. He felt as if he were standing before a predator, his finger tightening on the trigger when he saw Kael's lack of response. Those two glowing eyes gazed at him flatly as if he were a bug that could be crushed at any moment.
Thankfully, the boy was rescued from the pressure.
Hearing the commotion, shuffling sounds suddenly came from the other side of the room.
Kael recognized the first figure that appeared. It was his classmate, or rather, former classmate. Logan had always been the one with the biggest build in their class and had always been a bully. If it wasn't because the principal ruled the school with an iron fist against bullying, Kael knew his stay in the academy wouldn't have been pleasant at all. In fact, Kael had faced Logan's harassment many times whenever they returned with the school bus.
The second person that appeared, Kael also recognized. It was the male teacher he had met facing off against Ms. Claire when he found his sister. He had warned this person to stay away from them, and from the sudden change in Ben's expression when their eyes met, Kael knew the latter clearly remembered.
The last person he saw was one that almost made him raise a brow, even under the emotional numbness he was feeling.
Wasn't this his former biology teacher?
This was the same man whose class he had been unwilling to spend even a second longer in, to the point he had lied just to escape. Even now, Kael wondered why the people in this region were so stiffly suppressed by the world. Suppressed to the point that Daniel would be the best teacher the best academy on this continent could offer.
Kael's eyes lingered on this man he looked down on before sweeping over the rest. There were four more boys behind them, with three girls who had pale expressions standing within their midst.
Kael's senses were so heightened under Godly Focus that he could make out the rough rustling of the females' clothes and the dried stains at the sides of their mouths.
A bubbling feeling of anger and disgust almost overwhelmed Kael again, yet on the outside, his expression remained flat.
Even as Ben whispered words Kael didn't bother hearing into his brother's ear, Kael's glowing eyes lingered on the girls.
He had heard from his sister that they had willingly joined Daniel's group under a little instigation.
Sure, he could understand that they might have lost loved ones, friends, or even family, and might have even watched them ripped apart. He could even understand blaming the old principal partly for this. He could get that they were scared and were looking for an umbrella to shield them from the rain. Hunger? Thirst? There were many reasons he could think of, many he could relate to.
But was it enough to stoop so low? This was only the fourth day after the apocalypse. Couldn't they have some spine?
When his thoughts got here, the reason why he truly despised Rachel, who was still behind him, suddenly popped into his mind.
Kael understood Rachel locking herself in the bathroom and not opening up when he needed her help. It was normal to think of one's safety first and foremost.
But did that change the fact that he had almost died because of her actions?
No.
One must remember he had been so weak back then, and his reserve of ENERGi had been at an all-time low. Even now, the greater portion of his strength came from his Combat Trance. How could he have survived three undead back then?
It was one of the most humiliating moments he had ever experienced in his life. And it wasn't just because he hid behind the door while holding his breath and praying the monsters would leave. No, it had also been because his close shave with death had almost made him commit a mistake he felt disgusted with. He had thought he could die at any moment, and his inner demon had surfaced, making him almost reveal the nudity of a young girl, one whose dream had been snuffed out before it could bloom, and was later defiled by corruption.
This was the real reason Kael hated Rachel. For putting him in such a situation in the first place.
‘Am I so different from them?’
Kael's eyes, which had seemed to be seeing through them, suddenly fell back on Daniel and Ben.
‘No!’
His eyes narrowed slightly, cutting off the beams of light that seemed to pierce through their souls.
‘I am not like them! I will never take advantage of the weak. As for the mistake I almost made before, it won't happen again.’
Kael closed his eyes when he saw the system message that flashed before him.
[Congratulations! Your introspection of your heart has led to the awakening of your WILL]
[As the third person in your world to awaken WILL, you have been rewarded 10 Achievement Points and an Epic item]
While all this sounded long to describe, the truth was that with how fast Kael's thinking speed had been boosted by his Mythical skill, only around five seconds had passed.
Rachel, who had been slightly nervous about what was going on, suddenly heard that mysterious voice in her mind.
[HO HO! It seems I underestimated this boy. Just like you, he has awakened his Will.]
Rachel's eyes widened at such a revelation as she gazed at those young but slightly broad shoulders, at that calm unwavering figure.
It was then Daniel, who had just finished listening to the words of his brother, suddenly snickered.
“So it is young Kael. Thank goodness you are alive.”
Did he have any reason to fear this former student of his?
He was now a Level 23 Epic-ranked Awakened. Aside from those monsters out there, he feared no human, and certainly not his student.
