There were also theories so outrageously ridiculous, like one claiming she had fallen in love with an alien entity from an outer-realm spatial rift, that all four of us burst into a collective fit of genuine, breathless laughter.
"Look at this one, Unnie!" Yerin giggled, pointing a manicured finger at a post. "They think my boyfriend is an eighty-year-old billionaire who bought the stadium!"
Yoona leaned over, resting her chin on my shoulder as she looked at the screen, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Well... technically, your boyfriend’s family does own the stadium, so they aren’t entirely wrong about the money part."
We continued scrolling and laughing together, enjoying the peaceful, cozy atmosphere of the private office after the chaos of the day. Unsurprisingly, Val didn’t participate much in the fun and I didn’t insist either. I could see her mind was filled with many thoughts, likely still wondering about the proposal and our current relationship.
I gave her time to accept the reality and I was sure it wouldn’t take long.
After twenty minutes of browsing, I gently tapped Yerin’s waist, bringing the playful mood to a calm.
"Alright, Yerin..." I said softly, looking into her eyes. "...we actually need to have a serious talk about the skybox, your announcement, and what happened today. Some other things too."
Yerin’s expression softened. She nodded, her tone turning sincere. "Yeah. I have a lot of things I want to discuss with you too, Seth." She offered a sly, mischievous grin, glancing toward the side bedroom door. "Plus... I’ve been trying to convince Sarah to try you out, too."
Click.
The side bedroom door opened, and Sarah stepped back into the main office.
Hearing Yerin’s mischievous comment, Sarah let out a long, exhausted sigh and pushed her glasses up her nose with a dry smirk. "Yerin, please... stop telling people that."
Sarah walked over and took a seat on the armchair across from us. She smoothed down her professional blazer, looking straight at me. The casual, teasing atmosphere died down, replaced by a deep, quiet sincerity in her sharp eyes.
"Seth..." Sarah began softly, her voice carrying a heavy weight of genuine emotion. "...I want to tell you how deeply grateful I am to you."
I paused, looking at her attentively.
"Because of my career as a lead manager and the harsh reality of being a single mother..." Sarah continued, her eyes glistening slightly, "...Dylan has never been able to live a normal, carefree childhood. I’ve had to hide him, move him around, and keep him isolated for his own safety. It has been the greatest regret of my life."
She took a quiet breath, her hands resting on her lap. "Seeing him today... watching him run around that skybox, laughing, dancing, and playing with you, Lady Alice, and Valerie... he looked happier than I have ever seen him in his life. You gave my son a taste of a real, loving family today, Seth. As his mother... I almost cried watching it. I truly cannot thank you enough."
"Sarah..." I spoke gently. "Dylan is a great kid. genuinely enjoy hanging out with him."
Sarah offered a soft, beautiful smile, but then her expression shifted. The emotional warmth in her eyes gave way to a firm, serious, and practical calm.
"That gratitude..." Sarah said clearly, looking me dead in the eye, "...is also one of the primary reasons why I cannot consider dating you."
The room fell into a quiet, respectful silence.
I didn’t interrupt her or get defensive. I simply adjusted my posture, keeping my eyes fixed on hers as I offered a calm, encouraging nod. "Go ahead, Sarah. Talk your heart out. We’re all listening."
Sarah appreciated my calm demeanor, taking a deep breath to lay out her thoughts without reservation.
"First..." Sarah stated flatly, "...there is the reality of status. I come from a humble, ordinary background. You are the heir to the Fernando family, backed by the Rothschild bloodline, holding the primordial authority of Origin. Even if you and your family are kind enough not to care about status... I care. The social, political, and cultural distance between our worlds is massive, and it is a gap I cannot simply ignore."
She adjusted her glasses, her tone completely logical and grounded. "Second, there is the reality of age and life stage. I am an older, mature woman and a single mother. You, Yerin, Yoona, and Valerie are young, brilliant Awakened with your entire lives and boundless futures ahead of you. I have no desire to tie you down with my adult responsibilities."
Sarah looked toward the side bedroom where Dylan was sleeping, her eyes softening with unmistakable maternal devotion.
"My life is no longer mine alone, Seth," Sarah concluded softly, looking back at me with a serene, unbothered smile. "Dylan is my entire life. My priority begins and ends with protecting his future and giving him stability. I cannot risk dragging him into the volatile world of high-society romance."
I sat on the leather sofa, holding Yerin against my chest, with Yoona beside me and Val behind me, silently absorbing every word Sarah had just laid out.
Her points were grounded, completely logical, and rooted in the fierce, protective instinct of a mother who had spent years navigating the world on her own. She wasn’t playing hard to get, nor was she putting on high-society pretenses. She was simply setting clear, practical boundaries based on what she believed was best for her son and herself.
I looked across the coffee table at her, offering a calm, reassuring smile.
"Sarah... I completely understand where you’re coming from," I began, my voice relaxed and steady. "And to be completely honest with you, I agree with a lot of what you just said."
Sarah blinked, slightly caught off guard by how smoothly I accepted her words.
"Look," I continued, leaning back slightly while keeping a gentle hand on Yerin’s waist. "It’s not like either of us was sitting here harboring deep, overwhelming romantic feelings for each other. We only met a short while ago. Any talk about us dating was just an open consideration among friends, not some definitive plan set in stone. I wanted to make sure we talked about it openly so you wouldn’t carry any unnecessary pressure whenever you’re around me."
