Entering Apocalypse in Easy-Mode

With all the monsters that had blocked his path now dead, Clyde finally felt a little safer.

Of course, he could not completely lower his guard. This was still a Ruin. Danger could emerge from anywhere and there was no telling what kind of creature might be lurking among the floating ruins.

But without any immediate threat nearby, Clyde could finally breathe a little easier.

He walked toward the red-glowing crystal buried beneath a collapsed section of concrete. The moment he approached, he could feel its power more clearly. The crystal radiated an intense magical energy. Even after being buried beneath the ruins for who knew how long, its presence was still strong enough to attract monsters wandering through the area.

Clyde finally understood why the serpents had chosen this place as their nest. The crystal had been acting like a beacon.

Clyde let out a long sigh before sitting down beside it. He studied the strange object carefully.

The crystal looked like a fragment of something far greater. Its surface was irregular, almost like it had been broken from a much larger object. Faint red light pulsed beneath its transparent surface and strange energy constantly moved inside it.

Clyde had no idea what the original object had been. But he understood why the Council wanted it. With the right materials and Hammer’s skills, something like this could probably become an extremely powerful artifact, or weapon. Clyde was certain of it.

Without wasting any more time, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small leather bag. He carefully removed the Voidheart Crystal from the rubble and placed it inside. The bag immediately became heavier. Clyde tied it shut and slung it over his shoulder.

One down. But his mission was not finished. There was still another material he needed to take. Something called Star-Metal Fragments.

After drinking two potions and resting long enough for his stamina to recover, Clyde stood again, then walked toward the edge of the floating concrete platform and looked around. Above, below him, to his left and right, but nothing. The entire world was just filled with broken things drifting aimlessly through the distorted space.

Finding a specific piece of metal in this place was like searching for a needle in an ocean of rubble.

Clyde frowned. The mission slip had only said that the Star-Metal Fragments were located somewhere in the central region. They should still be nearby.

But after his battle with the serpents, he was no longer certain.

The shockwaves from their fight had scattered countless pieces of debris across the area. If the fragments had been exposed during the battle, they could have been thrown anywhere.

Clyde sighed. "I guess I have to look for it on my own."

And so he began searching.

He moved through the ruins, checking buildings and floating debris. Several creatures attacked him along the way, but none of them gave him much of a threat anymore.

Clyde cut them down quickly and continued searching. Minutes became an hour. But still nothing. His frustration gradually increased. This is taking too long!

He jumped onto another floating section of a building and scanned the surroundings again.

At that moment, something caught his eye. Something was flying in the distance.

Clyde narrowed his eyes. It was a... a wyvern.

Its body was covered in thick green vegetation. Moss and vines grew across its scales, blending naturally with its body. Small branches protruded from its back, leaves fluttered around its wings whenever it moved.

But something else caught Clyde’s attention. There was something shining brightly from the creature’s head. It looks like a metallic fragment that was embedded deep inside its skull, protruding between its scales. It gleamed brilliantly under the strange light of the Ruin.

The wyvern did not seem bothered by it. Perhaps it had never noticed the object. Or perhaps it had simply become accustomed to carrying it.

Clyde’s eyes narrowed. If there was anything in this ruined world that looked like a Star-Metal Fragment, that was probably it.

He did not hesitate. Clyde immediately jumped forward.

His feet landed on a floating slab of concrete before he launched himself again, moving rapidly between the ruins.

The wyvern continued flying. Then it noticed him. Its head suddenly turned.

A pair of savage eyes locked onto Clyde. The creature stared at the small human chasing it.

For a moment, it seemed almost amused. To the wyvern, Clyde was insignificant. A tiny creature daring to pursue something far larger than himself.

Suddenly lightning exploded. Brilliant blue-white electricity erupted around Clyde’s body.

At the same time, flames burst from his hands and wrapped around his sword.

The combined light was almost blinding. The wyvern’s eyes widened.

Clyde disappeared, a flash of lightning carried him across the distance and he reappeared directly in front of the wyvern.

His sword swung and a second later a blade filled with lightning and fire tore through the air. The blade struck the vegetation covering the wyvern’s head, instantly setting vines and leaves ablaze.

Clyde sends two more slashes. Blue-white lightning crawled across the creature’s scales while flames spread through its vegetation.

The wyvern shrieked in pain. It violently beat its enormous wings and retreated, sending a powerful gust through the surrounding debris. Brown, burning leaves scattered through the air.

Clyde landed on a floating piece of concrete. His eyes fixed to the shining fragment embedded in the wyvern’s head. He knew he could not simply ask the wyvern to hand over the fragment. If he wanted it, he would have to kill the creature first.

He lunged forward again, this time keeping his distance first and launching fireballs from his hands. The flames struck the vegetation covering the wyvern’s body, setting vines and leaves ablaze.

The wyvern suddenly opened its jaws and a thick green mist erupted toward Clyde.

He tried to dodge, but the poisonous cloud grazed his left arm. The fabric burned away instantly. Clyde’s skin began to blister.

His expression changed. This was a very strong poisonous mist.
