"DIE!" Bloodsight was slamming down with his fist as Lind's eyes narrowed. Not only the demon, but 3 others were coming at him all at once. Ever since he had spread the new foundational Art knowledge, the power of all the Eternal Realms had exploded.
Combat focused ones rejoiced in progress after so much stagnation. Long bored ancient masters now had new limits to test!
Lind had to harden his scales and deflect the fist while fangs closed in on his neck. A sword was about to take his leg and a warhammer was making his skull its focus!
None of them could kill him but he could not stop them all which was the point of the fight!
He snapped out his tail to take the beast closing in to slam into the stone surface of the arena. The sword caused sparks as it struck his scale covered hand. Blood was still drawn but he had taken it over.
The war hammer suddenly found it could not quite reach him. The flow of Time had been changed such that an infinite stretch stood between Lind's skull and the surface of the warhammer.
The silver surface strained but it was impossible to bridge the gap.
Lind flipped his bruised and bloody face up with a smile.
"I win." The two words impacted everyone present. For 3 years, Lind had been fighting ever more powerful combinations. He had been easily defeated as while he had his Harmonic Core settled, his experience was severely lacking.
All his wars and battles had been against others under the same cultivation system. Even outliers like Luxor, still fell under the rules of Heaven and Earth. Eternal Realm cultivators had no such limits.
Unlike Divine Realm cultivators that, while devastating, still could be predicted to an extent. Eternal Realm cultivators discarded all limits by their very nature.
Bloodsight could not only analyze his opponents, but he could use his blood like a pervasive poison. If Lind let him strike, his own body became the battleground! It was hell to get rid of it!
The beast was a Starseeker Wolf. A rare breed that even Lind had only ever read about. The bloodline had such extreme requirements few knew of. Her fangs could shatter his scales if he allowed her to strike.
They were full of the power to crush anything below the power of a star!
The 2 other remaining attackers were a human and an aether child. The aether child had manifested in a place of sword aura. It was rare, but it did happen. They were simply called the Severing Child. Any sword in their hands became stronger by one or two times its base materials!
Even Lind could not do that with his Forging and weaving combined!
He was also rare because he had 3 elements. Earth, fire, and darkness made for an interesting skin tone. He was a pure warrior and even during his path to cultivation, he had not suffered as other of his kin. He was that insanely powerful even as a Soul Realm!
The fact Lind's scales could stand up to his blade was in part due to tempering his defense against it. Lind could make his scales harder or softer depending on the result he desired.
Deflection was as good as asking for his limbs to get cut off. He was that good. Pure defense compounded by support by Eternal Origin Qi to stop the blade cold.
The broad shouldered human woman with the warhammer was Barrier Breaker Eternal. She had become a legend for wielding air and water to create a support Art with her warhammer skills.
Walls and formations that had withstood sieges for epochs were brought low by her. Lind's scales were as good as paper no matter how much support he put into them.
The insane force she generated had almost no natural counter. Even other Eternal Realm cultivators struggled to stop her once she began to attack. Her bright orange hair framed her like a living flame and the armor she wore was simple yet functional.
It was well cared for and well worn but Lind knew it was able to handle the backlash of her own force by dispersing it with the only power few could resist. Time.
She had somehow also condensed a Time Mystery but it was vastly different from his own. She could stagnate events or speed up the dispersal of any force by changing the flow of time on that force.
The reason she could shatter so many walls and barriers was due to grasping that very few cultivators actually had countermeasures against the wear and tear of Time being manipulated!
Lind could not stop it exactly. All he could do was create an Infinity Bridge. The end was impossible to reach because it was forever. It was the only thing he could do against her. She was that terrifying.
A smile spread on her face.
"First time I have lost like that! I will have to think on that." Anyone that assumed she was a musclehead because of how forthright she was would never know how they died! The mind needed for the nuanced application of Time and parsing formation weaknesses was very extremely rare and powerful.
He bowed low as he was covered in sweat and blood. It was a hard fought victory but only just. He was exhausted, shaking, and needed a bit of time to recover. In a real battle between Eternal Realm cultivators, he was dead.
All he had done was corner them, not defeat them. Still, it was a solid step forward.
"HA HA HA! Now we will have to up the difficulty." As if waiting to smother the feeling of progress, Shattering Fist Eternal loped over. The old ape was smiling wide as his eyes sparkled with new ideas.
Lind was about to sigh and wave him off when he froze. He looked straight up and became grim. Elixirs appeared and he shot into the sky.
His reactions were noted and none stopped. Even the battle crazed ape knew things were serious.
Lind recovered as he flew. His body restored to peak condition and only his dantian and mind would need more time. He passed the barrier and saw a flickering and barely working object limping towards his hold.
He had sent out 7 and only 1 returned. Their speed was not slow and he had done all he could to make them invisible, but it had not been enough. The Bastard knew he had received his 'package.'
He carefully examined the small craft for any traps but there was nothing aside from the cracked surfaces and wings that barely worked to complete the programmed course.
He extended his aura and saw more than he had ever before but no signs of the Bastard or Fiend artifacts.
He collected the machine and returned to his courtyard. He isolated the craft and did rigorous examinations before daring to review the memory. There were no hidden traps nor any sign of tampering.
He then summoned a base with an indentation in the middle of it. The 2 machines connected on a molecular level per his design. No external connection to abuse existed. It was nearly nanotechnology in how it worked but Lind had just made resonance work on a mechanical level.
Without his extensive work as a Forger and weaver, he would have never been able to pull it off. It meant no one could extract the information and what he saw made his blood run cold.
Spirit Caller Eternal had said there was a structure but they had severely misunderstood what was out there. It was a city in the darkness. It was not a hold but purely artificial. It gave off almost nothing.
The only reason his machines could see it was because they relied on physics. Just as they dispersed energies, they were able to recognize the same trait when found. Eternal Realm cultivators could have flown by it without any knowledge!
Further, there was not a single leak of internal Qi at all. Some kind of insulation design? As they flew over, he tried to estimate its size and became numb. Even if it was smaller due to isolation work, it still could easily hold millions of Fiends with room to spare!
Why was it so large? Why would the Bastard, so focused on his unending life, make something like that?
Every piece revealed only deepened his caution. The Bastard had been thwarted at every turn to advance. Even trapped for untold billions of years in a cage. It was clear he had been planning for the final confrontation for a long time but Lind froze as he saw one of his machines suddenly explode.
There had been no energy discharge or any sign of anything attacking it. Further, the hulls should have made such casual destruction impossible.
He had no time to grasp it as 2 more lit up like small stars. There was no reaction from the structure but the light let him see it better than before. It was at that moment his heart stilled.
Multiple artifacts put towards a single goal?! He recognized the interface after all, he had built it!
He saw another machine get destroyed and finally realized what was happening. It was distance!
There was some kind of invisible barrier that was reacting to something crossing it. It had to be made of Fiend Qi as it was the only energy he could not perfectly regulate. He had tried but it was clear the Bastard had accounted for it somehow.
The final 2 blew up but he saw the recording continue as it circled the structure and began to head away. He was confused.
If the machine in front of him had gotten away, why was it so damaged? It was only as it turned back toward his hold that his eyes narrowed. There was something moving in the dark!
He could just barely make it out from the flaring light of the dying energy cores he had created.
"What is that?" He tried to make it out, but it was as if it knew something was watching. The furtive movements suddenly vanished as the recording was jostled.
Something had scraped by his machine, almost breaking it, and vanishing in the dark. Lind had assumed the Bastard was all that waited in the darkness between holds but there was something else. There was something living in the dark!
