It didn’t take long for Kaelen to realize he might’ve underestimated the mysterious figures. Even with their vision obscured and their sense of direction lost, they somehow found a way to group back up like they could tell where each and every one of themselves was at any point in time, and stick together with their backs against each other to watch out for attacks from all directions.

This didn’t discourage Kaelen, and he didn’t hold back from sending several blade whips their way. The figures proved themselves to be skilled fighters as well, who had mastered their weapons to perfection.

They fought like their swords were an extension of their hands, and moved their spears like they were fireflies dancing in the fog.

But all this was futile for Kaelen, and he didn’t plan on wasting time with the mysterious figures. No matter how strong they were, they weren’t immune to his divine flames.

"Spark of Extinction."

Kaelen was just about to activate the skill when a bullet wheezed past his body and embedded itself into the spot where he stood a moment ago.

Even with the white mist that obscured the entire battlefield, the shooter had somehow discovered a way to track Kaelen amidst the mist and provide support from above.

’The shooter is this accurate even without seeing me.’

Impressive.

’But they’re still no match for me.’

Spark—

"Infinite Mana."

Boom—

A loud explosion rocked through the wasteland, and a series of kill notifications flashed across Kaelen’s vision. He didn’t spare them a glance as he wasn’t done yet.

From the flame of the explosion, Kaelen created a battalion of flaming swords and hurled them towards the building where the shooter was hiding.

The flaming swords appeared before the building in an instant, and what followed next was the entire building collapsing in a heap of dust and debris.

But almost immediately, Kaelen could tell the shooter and the second head with them had moved three blocks away in that instant, making him frown.

He didn’t want to jump to conclusions and snapped his fingers to create one thousand wind swords above that entire block, and hurled them downwards. Their destructive power decimating everything in their path.

That was when Kaelen saw it.

Two figures suddenly appeared in the sky, one already positioned before a sniper rifle aimed towards him, and before he could blink, a shockwave spread from the muzzle of the gun, and the next moment he was watching the bullet tear through his membrane.

It missed his life core by an inch and tore through his other side, shattering the earth behind him. But by the time he looked, the two figures were gone and hiding three blocks away.

"A long-range divine weapon and a teleportation ability?"

Kaelen frowned.

That was a destructive pair to have.

"It seems the ones I killed are only the underlings of those two." Kaelen quickly speculated, but didn’t plan on giving up.

He tried the same strategy a few times, with the shooter’s bullets grazing him several times before he could dodge the attack, but Kaelen was only smiling now.

"I understand it now."

The enemy seemed to be playing defensively now after discovering he was a hard nut to crack, but Kaelen quickly noticed they didn’t simply teleport themselves far away or back to their base. And that was simply because... they couldn’t.

After watching a few of their moves, Kaelen could tell the teleportation ability had a limited range, and every few times they teleported, the distance they crossed reduced—albeit slightly—but enough for Kaelen to notice.

That was because the ability probably drew on some kind of fuel: mana. And even that seemed to be running low quickly, as such a powerful ability was bound to quickly drain mana.

That was the reason they were playing defensively. To save mana and exhaust Kaelen’s enough for them to make an escape.

"How cute."

But unfortunately for them, there was no end to Infinite Mana, and it was time to end this.

"Infinite Mana... Formless Dragon Sword Art!"

Kaelen chose earth to be the element for this signature attack, specifically because there was an abundance of it, and the scale could only be described with one word...

Armageddon.

Boom—

All the loose rocks and debris across the radius his mana could reach all rose up to the sky as Kaelen elevated with them. They sharpened into long swords, covering the entire sky with swords on a larger scale than that of the one he pulled off at the plane. But Kaelen didn’t stop there.

All the swords began swirling wildly around him like a whirlpool, forming something that all who could see instantly recognized.

An endgame dragon.

Its size was enough to make Kaelen invisible before it, and a single guttural roar from its throat disintegrated the clouds across a thousand miles, revealing the dark sky as the sun cast a long shadow across the wasteland as it made its descent like it was scared to witness what came next.

For a moment, the wasteland fell into unsettling silence, before the snap of Kaelen’s finger, loud and clear as the dragon’s roar, sent the dragon diving downwards with its outstretched maws covering hundreds of meters.

In an instant, the dragon impacted upon the exact spot the two figures were hiding. And like a nuclear missile made entirely of swords with a hundredfold destructive power, the earth shook to its core as a mushroom cloud rose from the impact, and exploded in a shockwave that swept across the wasteland and broke Kaelen’s system into endless glitches of kill notifications.

Booooom—!!!

Kaelen found himself breathing heavily as he scanned the entire area for any signs of life. This wasn’t mana exhaustion, but stamina depletion. He was completely drained and slowly lowered himself to the ground as he morphed back into his human form.

But before Kaelen could catch his breath, the ground slowly began to tremble. It felt like an earthquake, or something rising from beneath the earth. It felt like the hooves of a thousand beasts in a stampede, and before long, several beasts began crossing into his range of perception as the sky grew dark.

The beasts didn’t attack each other, but showed no mercy, stomping down any other beast that tripped in the race. Almost like it was a life-and-death situation.

"Are they reacting to my Formless Dragon Sword Art?" Kaelen mused to himself thoughtfully.

But if so... shouldn’t they be running in the opposite direction?

That was when Kaelen saw it.

Two women. One with snow-white hair and another with dark purple hair, running in his direction, ahead of the beast horde behind them.

Kaelen didn’t need to have seen their faces to know this was the exact same people that had made him destroy an entire map a few minutes ago to get rid of, running straight in his direction now after escaping death.

It was almost like the horde was chasing them, but Kaelen quickly saw through that and realized the women were simply running in the direction of the beast horde, completely disregarding him as they charged past him along with the beast horde, which quickly split in two on arriving before Kaelen, avoiding him and running around him in the opposite direction.

This made Kaelen frown. These beasts were fully aware of his capabilities, same as the mysterious women, but were willing to risk their lives to cross paths with him, just to get away from whatever was on their tails.

This made Kaelen ponder deeply.

"What could possibly be on the other side that was powerful enough to make even a Tier 9 like himself look insignificant?"

That was when Kaelen saw it. Approaching even faster than the beast horde could evade, and when Kaelen used his [Sharp Senses] to see what it did to the beasts who were a step too slow, he finally understood something.

And from the way the beasts were running, and the directions they were heading in, Kaelen could easily tell this was a routine in the wasteland, and the beasts and those strange women probably knew a safe haven. If not, no beast should be able to survive one night in the wasteland.

But while the normal part of Kaelen’s brain was screaming at him to run with the horde, another part remained extremely calm as it asked just one question...

"Can I kill that thing?"
