These five were also Level 100, though fortunately none were Epic Grade. All five were Three-Star Extraordinary.

The five wolves had already chosen their opponents. Or more accurately, they and Michael's undead had chosen each other the moment both sides were revealed.

Facing the five wolves were the Undead High Drake, the Bone Dragon, and the Bone Wyvern.

Two wolves attacked the Undead High Drake, one went against the Bone Dragon, and the remaining two targeted the Bone Wyvern.

At first, the arrangement seemed slightly odd.

The Undead High Drake was the strongest of the three.

Two wolves attacking it made sense, since a single Level 100 Three-Star Extraordinary monster wouldn't be able to stall it for long, let alone defeat it.

Even if one generously assumed some tiny possibility of victory existed, the High Drake would tear its opponent apart before that possibility could become reality.

BOOOOOOM!

A deafening explosion shook the sky. The Undead High Drake's enormous claws collided with the first wolf, forcing its massive body downward.

Before the High Drake could follow up, the second wolf appeared above its head. Its jaws opened and a compressed sphere of gray energy formed.

BOOOOM!

The attack struck the High Drake directly. Its enormous body tilted in the air. The first wolf immediately recovered and lunged again.

Michael watched silently. Noting that the High Drake wasn't in any immediate danger, his gaze shifted.

On another end was the Bone Dragon. Only slightly inferior to the Undead High Drake, the fact that it had once served as Varek's main undead was enough to prove its strength.

Its foundation was genuinely astonishing, having been cultivated over countless years. Yet only one wolf had gone to stop it.

If the wolves were assigning opponents purely by strength, the Bone Dragon should have received two enemies as well. Instead, only one had been sent.

ROOOOOAR!

The Bone Wyvern released a furious roar as two wolves attacked it simultaneously. One tore through the sky from above while the other rushed beneath its enormous body.

The Bone Wyvern twisted. Its skeletal tail struck the first wolf.

BOOOOM!

The wolf was sent flying. However, the second had already reached its left wing.

CRACK!

Powerful jaws closed around the bone. The Bone Wyvern violently rolled through the sky, dragging the wolf with it.

Michael's expression slowly changed.

"Oh."

He now understood. Even the monsters within this nest, aside from the four special ones, possessed better-than-average intelligence and solid battle sense.

From their formation, it was obvious they weren't randomly choosing opponents.

The Undead High Drake was clearly the greatest threat, so two wolves restrained it.

The Bone Dragon was slightly weaker, but its defensive ability was absurd. Sending two wolves after it might not yield a quick result. So they only sent one, enough to keep it occupied, then concentrated on the Bone Wyvern, the assumed weakest of the three.

The Bone Wyvern wasn't weak. It was after all a Level 100 Three-Star Extraordinary undead. But compared to the Undead High Drake and Bone Dragon, it was the most vulnerable of the three. The wolves had noticed and acted accordingly.

If Michael read the situation correctly, the plan was for two wolves to hold down the Undead High Drake, one to stall the Bone Dragon, and the remaining two to concentrate their strength on the Bone Wyvern and destroy it as quickly as possible.

Once it fell, those two would free up, and three could then surround either the Bone Dragon or the High Drake before concentrating all five to finish the last one.

The strategy was simple. But also very efficient.

However, it was far from enough to leave Michael helpless. He had solutions. Several, in fact.

Michael's gaze briefly shifted toward another part of the battlefield. Two enormous serpentine figures were currently tearing through the wolf army. One was engulfed in blue flames.

Every movement of its enormous body left streaks of azure fire across the battlefield. Wolves that approached too carelessly were swallowed by the flames before being struck aside by its tail. The other was surrounded by soft pink fire.

Beautiful flower-shaped flames continuously blossomed around it before detonating among groups of wolves.

The two ancestors of the Black Serpent Empire were causing absolute mayhem.

Michael only needed to call them back. Although both were still some distance from the true peak of Rank Four, they had already reached Level 98.

More importantly, both were powerfull undead with excellent foundations. Defeating a Level 100 alone might be difficult, but defeating one wasn't necessary. They only needed to break the wolves' formation.

Once one wolf was removed from the equation, the Bone Wyvern's situation would immediately improve.

That was one solution.

There was another.

Beginning.

Although Beginning was only Level 96, it had a foundation comparable to an Epic Grade creature. At the same level, Epic Grade creatures were nearly unrivaled.

Even while four levels lower, Beginning was more than capable of fighting a Level 100 Three-Star Extraordinary monster. In fact, if Beginning managed to trigger its ability and burst forth with greater strength, there was a very real possibility it could defeat the wolf entirely.

But the problem also lay with Beginning's Law of Brutal Rebirth. The stronger Beginning became, the more troublesome activating the Law became.

It needed injury. And as Beginning continued growing stronger, ordinary attacks naturally became less capable of causing enough damage, since it needed to be pushed to the brink of death.

Of course, this wasn't truly an issue since Beginning could injure itself, though that method was less effective. Still, the more significant problem was different.

As his opponents grew stronger, Michael had increasingly come to dislike the idea of using Beginning's burst state against powerful enemies.

Perhaps it was because Beginning had accompanied him for so long. Or perhaps it was simply because Beginning was too precious.

Michael didn't like combat styles that depended on recklessly throwing something valuable into danger.

He much preferred dominating battles or having the freedom to maneuver however he wished against similarly leveled opponents.
