Extra's Path: The Eternal Frost Monarch
Chapter 291: Lightning-Storm Dragon [3]Noah had retreated more than four kilometers from the battlefield. Yet even at that distance, he could still feel the shockwaves rolling through the forest.
BOOOOOOM!!!
The ground trembled beneath his feet. Noah turned around. His eyes widened.
The battle in the distance looked less like a fight and more like a natural disaster given form.
Akari streaked across the storm clouds like a miniature blue star, her entire body wrapped in lightning. Every movement left behind a brilliant trail of azure light.
Then the sky erupted.
BOOOOOOM!!!
Hundreds of lightning bolts descended simultaneously. They converged upon the abomination, turning the entire battlefield into a sea of blue-white destruction.
Trees were torn apart. The ground split. Fire spread wildly through the forest despite the relentless rain, fed by the continuous lightning strikes that ignited everything they touched.
Noah swallowed. But what truly frightened him wasn’t Akari.
It was the creature.
"...It’s growing."
His expression became grim. The abomination’s body had become noticeably larger than before.
’How is that possible?’
---
Meanwhile Akari continued her assault. She moved through the battlefield with terrifying precision.
Her katana swept horizontally. A gigantic web of lightning-infused slashes spread across the abomination’s torso.
The creature’s flesh tore apart. Before the pieces could even fall. Akari vanished. She reappeared above its head.
Her wings spread wide. The storm clouds twisted around her. She raised her katana vertically. For one brief moment, everything became silent.
Then she brought the blade down.
KRAAAAAAAAAA-BOOOOOOM!!!
A colossal crescent of blue lightning descended from the heavens. It struck the abomination from head to waist.
The force was so tremendous that the earth beneath it split open. For kilometers length.
The slash continued beyond the creature. A distant mountain caught the edge of the attack.
BOOOOOOM!!!
Its peak was cleaved apart. The abomination was split cleanly into two enormous halves. Akari didn’t even pause.
She disappeared. A flash of blue crossed the battlefield.
SHING!
Another slash.
SHING!
Another.
SHING!
Another.
Her movements became impossible to follow. She cut through its arms.
Its torso. Its shoulders. Its legs.Every strike carried enough force to tear apart enormous sections of the landscape.
The abomination’s body was shredded into countless pieces. Yet Akari’s expression remained cold.
’It’s still alive.’
The scattered flesh began moving. Chunks of black-red meat crawled toward one another.
They merged. Bones twisted. Flesh knitted together. Within seconds, the abomination began reforming.
Akari’s eyes narrowed.
’So even that isn’t enough.’
Lightning gathered around her. She raised one hand. The entire sky answered.
KRAK!
Lightning struck the battlefield, again and again. A continuous storm descended upon the abomination.
Its body was burned, torn apart, and reduced to charred pieces. Yet it continued regenerating. The creature’s flesh was already so corrupted that ordinary wounds seemed meaningless.
Lightning hurt it. Akari could tell that much.
It screamed whenever her attacks struck.
But the damage never lasted.
And worst it was becoming larger. Every time it regenerated, its body seemed slightly more massive than before.
Akari floated above the battlefield, rain streaming down her face.
Her blue eyes remained fixed on the creature.
’What are you?’
The abomination slowly stood again. Its body had become even larger than before.
Its single crimson eye stared at her. Then it smiled.
Akari tightened her grip. The storm around her intensified. She understood something.
’I can’t simply overpower it.’
The creature wasn’t fighting like a normal opponent. It was enduring, adapting and frowing. And somehow, the longer the battle continued, the more dangerous it became.
Akari’s gaze shifted briefly toward the distant forest, toward Noah.
’Please... keep running.’
She couldn’t afford to hold back anymore.
Her wings spread. The clouds above began rotating into an enormous vortex. Lightning gathered inside them until the entire sky became blue.
Akari raised her katana.
"Then I’ll destroy you before you have the chance to grow any further."
The abomination answered with a deafening roar.
GWRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
The two beings launched themselves forward simultaneously. One was a Storm Dragon wielding the fury of heaven.
The other was an abomination born from corruption and countless fused creatures.
Their collision created a shockwave that swept across kilometers of forest.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
For several seconds, there was no distinction between sky and earth. Only lightning, darkness and fire.
And the thunderous clash of two beings whose battle had already surpassed anything humans could comprehend.
The battle showed no signs of ending.
Akari hovered above the devastated forest, lightning continuously crawling across her body. Her kimono was torn in several places, and her breathing had become heavier.
Yet her eyes remained sharp.
Below her, the abomination continued to regenerate. Its enormous body was already larger than before.
’Why it’s not stopping... is it somehow sucking life from everything and getting bigger again? Or corrupting his surrounding makes him stronger?’
Akari clenched her teeth. She couldn’t allow this battle to continue indefinitely. Her gaze shifted toward the sky.
The storm clouds responded immediately.
They began rotating faster and faster. Until an enormous vortex formed above the battlefield.
Countless strands of blue lightning gathered within it. Akari raised her katana.
’Let’s try this.’
The lightning suddenly condensed. From within the storm, an enormous dragon-shaped mass emerged.
Its body was entirely composed of blue lightning. It had a long serpentine body, enormous wings, and a head crowned with blazing horns.
The Lightning Dragon opened its mouth.
[Raiko Ryujin]
ROOOOOOAR!!!
Thunder exploded across the heavens.
Akari gripped her katana with both hands.
Then she pulled it downward.
The Lightning Dragon followed. It plunged from the heavens like a divine beast descending upon the earth.
The abomination looked upward.
Its enormous eye widened.
THUNDER-BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The dragon crashed into the battlefield.
An explosion of blue lightning erupted across several kilometers. It there were a city, by now it would have been destroyed by her attacks.
Trees were vaporized. The earth was torn apart. The shockwave swept through the surrounding forest, flattening everything in its path.
For several seconds, the entire battlefield disappeared beneath a blinding blue light.
Crack.
Akari froze. She looked down at her katana.
A thin fracture ran along the blade.
CRACK!
The blade shattered. Fragments of metal fell through the rain. Akari stared at the broken weapon.
The countless previous clashes had finally taken their toll. The abomination’s flesh had continuously corroded the blade every time they came into contact.
Her only weapon had reached its limit. She looked toward the explosion. The smoke slowly dispersed. The abomination was still there.
Its body was badly damaged. But it was regenerating.
And its enormous form had grown even larger. Akari’s expression darkened.
"This is getting troublesome."
Then she sensed something. Her eyes shifted toward the distance. Even through the storm, her enhanced senses could perceive Noah.
Nearly four kilometers away.
’Still too close.’
A battle between them at this level could easily devastate everything within several kilometers.
Akari disappeared.
BOOM!
A streak of blue lightning crossed the forest.
In less than a few seconds, she reached Noah.
He barely had time to react.
"Akari–"
Akari grabbed him. Before he could finish speaking, the world became a blur.
BOOOOOOM!!!
She carried him through the forest at terrifying speed, crossing kilometer after kilometer.
Noah’s hair whipped violently in the wind.
"Wait! Akari, what are—"
She didn’t answer. She continued moving. She nearly went more than thirty kilometers.
Only then did she finally slow down.
She gently placed Noah on the ground in a relatively untouched section of forest.
Noah stumbled slightly before regaining his balance.
"Akari, wait—"
She looked at him. For a moment, their eyes met. Her expression was calm. But beneath that calmness, Noah could see determination.
"Let me handle this."
Noah’s eyes widened.
"Akari..."
"Stay here."
She turned away. Blue lightning began gathering around her body.
Noah instinctively stepped forward.
"Akari!"
She didn’t look back. A moment later.
BOOOOOOM!!!
She shot into the sky.
Noah could only watch her rapidly disappearing figure. Then the storm changed. The clouds above the battlefield began rotating violently.
A tremendous pressure spread across the sky.
Noah’s expression changed.
"What...?"
A brilliant blue light erupted from the distant storm. Akari’s figure disappeared completely within it. Her body began changing.
Lightning enveloped her from head to toe.
Her wings expanded. Her limbs transformed.
Her body grew larger and larger. Scales formed across her skin, each one shining with a deep sapphire-blue glow. Her horns lengthened.
Her claws emerged. Her tail extended behind her. Within moments, the human figure Noah knew was gone.
In her place was an enormous dragon.
Approximately seventy-five meters from head to tail, her massive wings stretched across the storm clouds.
Lightning crawled between her scales.
Thunder answered every movement of her wings.
She slowly raised her head.
The entire forest fell beneath her shadow.
Then Akari opened her enormous jaws.
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAR!!!
Her roar shook the heavens. Lightning erupted throughout the clouds.
The storm itself seemed to bow before her.
Far away, Noah stared upward in complete silence.
"She’s crazy!!"
Another roar echoed across the sky.
And then the Storm Dragon charged back toward the abomination. This time, Akari was going taste her powers as true dragon.
