Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 588: Fall of the First Thrall [1]

The very moment the harrowing Demon of Despair appeared in all his profane glory right above the grand mansion of the Ducal household alongside Daniel Nomrad, the world seemed to hold its breath.

Apart from the mighty fifth-phase Duke who rose into the heavens to greet the two invaders, there was another person within the estate who noticed the arrival of Osiris with crystal clarity. He felt it not merely through sight or hearing, but through the terrifying depths of his very soul.

He was the very first person in this world whom Axel had forced to undergo the painful transformation into a demonkin thrall.

He was the first enemy who had carefully orchestrated Axel’s death within the grounds of the academy, and he was the person directly responsible for destroying the lingering remnant soul of the original Axel Nomrad.

It was by that exact act of malice that Tyler Cross had finally been able to encompass the body, mind, and soul of Axel Nomrad in its absolute entirety, leaving no other soul influence remaining to resist him.

That person was none other than Ken Dusker himself.

The exact moment when Axel absorbed the vast sea of despair from all of humanity to manifest his ultimate demonic form, it was his first thrall, Ken Dusker, who received the greatest amount of direct benefits from the act.

That massive surge of power passed involuntarily through their shared bloodline link, an automatic transfer of energy that even Axel could not entirely suppress or control.

Through that sudden influx of dark power, the Dusker heir instantly advanced from the initial third phase to the mid-third phase. More importantly, he found himself standing on the very precipice of becoming a complete demon.

It felt as though he was merely a single step away from shedding his human identity entirely. He had already become a partial demon when he first broke through to the third phase, but now the dark essence was saturating every fibre of his being.

Yet, that sudden advancement of his demonic bloodline brought Ken no joy whatsoever.

Instead, it filled him with an incomprehensible, soul-crushing horror. Through their connection, he felt the sheer, unbelievable calamity of doom that the Demon of Despair brought upon the entire human race.

His mortal mind failed to fully grasp the gargantuan sea of despair that Axel had absorbed into himself, extracted from billions of suffering human lives across the continent. Because he was the very first demonic thrall bound to Axel Nomrad, Ken felt that crushing weight with far greater clarity than anyone else alive.

Not long after Axel appeared in the sky above the Dusker mansion, Ken felt the boundless weight of that black despair pressing down upon his chest. An astounding amount of raw bloodline pressure washed over him simply by being in close proximity to Axel Nomrad, forcing his lungs to struggle for air.

He stood inside his private chambers, staring through the narrow gaps of his tall window panes.

He watched as his father, Duke Allen Dusker, soared high into the sky to confront the invaders. He saw how the Demon and the silver-armoured figure of Daniel Nomrad were momentarily pushed back as the Duke exerted his authority, their catastrophic clash slowly enshrouding the heavens in turbulent waves of energy.

To protect his estate, the Duke manifested a vast, golden protective barrier all around the mansion. That barrier served a dual purpose: it kept the destructive shockwaves at bay and prevented the occupants below from witnessing the true scope of the battle.

After all, most ordinary people and lower-level seekers would not be able to withstand the sight of a battle on such an unimaginable scale.

Their minds would shatter under the weight of their own insignificance when confronted with the cruel reality of how unfathomably powerful a fifth-phase existence truly was compared to a first- or second-phase seeker.

To a high-level entity, a lower-phase human seeker was less than an ant waiting to be crushed beneath a falling mountain.

Ken’s hand stretched forward against the glass, a trembling whisper barely escaping his pale lips. "No..."

It was a helpless attempt to call out to his father, because Ken knew what was about to happen.

He understood the nightmare better than anyone else in the world. No matter how inconceivable the power of the Duke might be, and no matter if Allen was recognised as one of the absolute strongest fifth-phase existences in all of humanity, the Demon would ultimately win.

It was a silent, absolute certainty that could not be denied or fought against. It was as inevitable as the rising and setting of the sun and moon.

Just as the protective barrier of the Duke expanded to cover the whole of the Dusker mansion, the demonic thralls under Osiris started their vicious attack against the outer perimeter. Each offensive strike sounded like the shattering of a sound barrier breaking a thousand times all at once, reverberating through the stone foundations of the estate.

Yet, the barrier manifested by the Duke held strong for the moment, absorbing the initial wave of catastrophic impacts.

Inside his room, Ken felt as though he was drowning in a bottomless black sea.

He recognised every single one of the demonic thralls besieging the barrier, feeling the familiar, nauseating tug of the bloodline connection from all of them. They all drew their horrific power from the very same source that bound his own soul.

His legs buckled, and he dropped heavily to his knees on the cold floor. Grabbing his head with both hands, he began muttering like a madman, his eyes wide with unadulterated terror. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no..."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" the Dusker heir suddenly let out a bellowing scream filled with utter hopelessness, his voice cracking under the weight of his despair.

Hearing his loud, agonised scream, the heavy wooden door to his room was flung open with harsh force. A beautiful, elegant woman with a deeply worried gaze walked in at that exact moment.
