Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)
Chapter 118: Angel’s Promise To AbigailAngel
For two days straight, I haven’t had a proper sleep. No, to be completely honest with myself, I haven’t slept at all.
My regular district patrol became a late night patrol instead of my usual afternoon shifts. I was actually the one who personally went to Anthony and begged him to change my schedule around.
I just couldn’t bring myself to face April at all because of what she said to me that night outside the terrace building.
April doesn’t like me at all.
I know I did tell her once back then that I only like her juicy, peach-flavored pink pussy. But... I genuinely like her far more than all of that now.
Just thinking about it made my entire head ache continuously. I couldn’t think straight or even do my patrolling job properly. This is really, really strange to me, here hearing the exact girl I like tell me all of that to my face.
So I decided to summon my closest friends to help me clear my troubled mind.
Only one of them actually showed up. Abigail.
The twins sent a quick message saying they were busy helping Katie with some private personal stuff at their place.
I really can’t believe they chose Katie over our long friendship.
Even if she’s pregnant, I should come first...
"Okay, you have about 20 minutes to tell me why you called me all the way out here," Abigail said the very moment she arrived.
We happened to be inside one of the shade huts down at the district beach.
I sat there staring at the pregnant lady, who was carrying endless files around like she was doing something extremely important.
"I liked it way more when you were just a regular waitress than this whole wedding-planner thing," I said the moment she dropped the heavy stack of files onto the wooden bamboo table and gently sat down on one of the fluffy cushions.
"What can I even say to that?" Abigail replied, stretching her legs out slightly. "My husband doesn’t want me serving the everyday people of the district anymore, and I absolutely hate it when I’m not doing some kind of work. So I told Madam I would help out with organizing the anniversary this year."
"So, are you actually going to attend the party yourself?"
"Obviously I am," she said, running a hand through her blonde hair. "I have to personally coordinate everything I planned, and I also have to officially be Javier Sanchez’s wife at the party."
"Good for you, Javier Sanchez’s wife, who is currently expecting an old man’s child," I teased, trying to shift the heavy mood.
"Hahaha," she faked a loud laugh, rolling her eyes up at the thatched roof. "He is really not that old. He happens to be 55."
"Yeah, and you are only 23."
"Twenty-four," she corrected instantly.
"Still way older than you," I pointed out, leaning forward on my knees. "I heard he is even older than your own mother. Damn, how do you even do it with him?"
"Angel, if this is really what you called me all the way here to do, just mock me endlessly about my marriage, I’m leaving right now."
She was about to stand up from the soft cushion, but I had much more to say to her.
"Wait, don’t go," I pleaded, reaching out a hand to stop her. "I have something else to say."
She quietly sat back down on the seat, placing her hands in her lap and waiting for me to begin.
"What you said the other day about your..." My voice trailed off as I looked directly down at her little baby bump.
She looked straight into my eyes, then slowly shifted her gaze down to her own tummy.
"Oh..." she whispered softly, a slight smirk playing on her lips. "Are you really scared that I might be carrying a little red-haired baby in my oven?"
"It’s wine hair color, not red," I corrected her firmly. "But seriously, are you?"
That exact thought had also bugged my mind relentlessly the moment she whispered it directly into my ear the other day at the bathhouse. I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a single second.
"Don’t worry, Angel," Abigail said, her tone softening as she shook her head. "It’s not yours at all. My OLD husband made completely sure I had a full medical test done early on. He wanted to be absolute certain I was carrying his child."
Oh God, thank you.
I am way too young to have a tiny kid running around calling me mommy.
"But I really wanted it to be yours, you know," she sighed out softly, her fingers gently resting on her tummy as her eyes stayed focused on her lap.
"I really wanted a baby, but definitely not this soon," she continued quiet like. "I honestly don’t know why he wanted me to get pregnant right now."
"Did he force you to become pregnant?" I asked, my brow furrowing as I watched her expression change.
"No, no," she quickly waved her hand through the air, completely dismissing the question before it went any further. "Let’s not talk about any of that right now. Now that I have successfully cleared all your big worries, is that really all you called me for?"
I looked closely at the girl sitting on the couch, carefully studying every small detail of her face.
Something deep down inside tells me that something isn’t right with her at all, but no matter how hard you press Abigail, she will never say what is actually bothering her until it starts to hang heavily over her head and becomes completely unbearable for her to keep bottled up inside.
"Abigail."
"Hmm?"
"When you ever need my help, just call me," I said, looking her dead in the eye. "I promise you I will come running to you no matter what. And if you ever want me to kill your husband, I will do it in a heartbeat."
Abigail began to laugh out loud, genuinely thinking that what I said was just some funny joke. I also laughed right along with her, keeping the mood light.
But I actually meant every single word of it.
And deep down, Abigail knew it too.
She never forgot those words.
