Angel
So I went ahead and told Abigail everything, right down to how April told me to my face that she only likes me for sex.
And that oven-ass pregnant girl just sat there and laughed at me like I was some kind of absolute joke to her.
All I could do was sit there and stare at her, quietly waiting for her to finish her loud laughing fit. She was actively mocking my pure innocence. She was seriously lucky that I was being so calmly nice today and that she happened to be my close friend. Otherwise, I would have just smacked her on the head for making fun of my miserable condition.
"This is so ridiculously hilarious," Abigail gasped out between laughs, clutching her belly as she sat back on the soft couch. "The great, untouchable Angel Morningstar is actually falling in love, and now she’s completely heartbroken. This is fucking headline news for the entire district!"
"I am not fucking heartbroken," I snapped, "April and I are still completely good. It’s just not fair that she isn’t interested in me in the exact way I thought she would be. I thought she loved my organs... All of them.."
"What on earth were you expecting, Angel?" Abigail asked, finally wiping a tear from her eye. "You clearly told that poor girl from the start that you wanted nothing from her but sex. You even specifically told her that you love only her pussy."
Shhhhhhhh. Biiiiitchhh...
I still couldn’t believe April had gone and badmouthed me directly to my own friends like that.
Why on earth would she go around gossiping about our private, intimate issues with this loudmouth?
"Yes, okay, I did tell her that I’m in love with her juicy peach pussy," I admitted, my cheeks warming up a bit.
"You even went and named that pussy," Abigail pointed out, leaning forward with a sharp grin. "Girl, you have fallen so deep for her. Like, deeper than a dark well. Just be totally honest with me for once. Are you in love with her?"
I just stared at her in silence, blinking slowly as I tried to process the question in my mind.
But what could I even say if I was truly being honest with myself?
I am.
It’s really not just about the juicy peach pussy this time around.
I am deeply in love with that girl.
Whenever I close my eyes at night, all I see in my mind is April.
I used to picture a grand portrait of me and my two moms all smiling together, and it felt like the entire world was contained inside that one picture.
But ever since I first tangoed with April January, all I see is her.
We are both smiling side by side and feeding Coco together, just like a real family. The actual family I have always wanted deep down.
In my mind, I see us every single morning. I wake up early and gently kiss the girl sleeping beside me, make us a perfect delicious breakfast, and then head down to the beach to surf the morning waves. After that, my woman meets me on the sand, carefully washes the salt out of my hair, and gives me a sweet kiss. She smiles and tells me, "Welcome home, darling." Or we are out inside the deep sea, diving down together and making passionate love under the water.
It’s such an incredibly happy portrait.
"Are you daydreaming about the woman of your dreams right now?" Abigail’s sharp voice suddenly shattered my thoughts, bringing me right out of my fantasy.
I stared back at her, quickly adjusting my posture to act like I wasn’t doing the exact thing she thought I was doing.
"I am not going to answer your stupid question," I grumbled, crossing my legs. "If I tell you the truth, you’ll just turn around and go tell friends... and that is a very bad thing."
"You know I am actually really good at keeping secrets," she said, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, you’re only good at keeping your own secrets," I shot back immediately. "But I know for a fact that you always gossip about me to your mom."
"That is only because I tell her everything," she defended herself smoothly.
"And that exact habit is why she completely controls your entire life," I said, my voice hardening a bit. "Look at you right now. She tells you to go marry some random old guy you have never even met before, and you just agreed without thinking twice. And the absolute worst part of it all is that you do all of this just because you desperately want her to acknowledge that you exist."
"Why do you always have to attack people like that?" Abigail snapped back, her laugh disappearing in an instant as her posture straightened. "Do you really want me to attack you too? Because you know I have a mountain of personal things I could say about you. I mean, you spent your entire life completely ruining your own public image just trying to get your broken parents back together, and in the end, they weren’t even the endgame. One ended up as ashes in an urn, and the other got remarried after just three months. How does that sound to you?"
"Fuck you..." I spat out, turning my head away.
That is the absolute reality about the two of us. We may be former friends with benefits, but we know every single one of each other’s deepest demons, and we know exactly where to strike when we want to hurt each other.
"What?" she said, throwing her hands up slightly. "You were the one who started it first."
I definitely would have stood right up and marched directly out of this beach hut, but the truth was, I still desperately needed her help with my situation.
"Let’s just not talk about any of that again," I muttered, rubbing the back of my neck. "Just tell me, how on earth do I actually make April fall in love with me? As in, the real, actual me my dragon ball?"
"That’s simple," Abigail said, her tone returning to a calm, practical pace. "Just completely stop having sex with her for a while and start creating real emotional memories together instead."
"That is extremely harsh," I groaned, leaning my head back against the wall. "I have already been actively avoiding her for two days now... Even I am deeply affected by that."
"No wonder she has been crying non-stop inside the bookstore," Abigail mentioned casually.
My head snapped right back up to look at her. "What? April has been crying?"
I wasn’t aware of that at all.
"Yeah," Abigail nodded, looking at me seriously. "I walked past the bookstore yesterday afternoon, and I saw through the window that her eyes were completely swollen from crying. At first, I thought it was entirely because of you, which is actually partly true since you have been hiding and avoiding her. But she was also sitting there mumbling to herself about never being able to see her dad ever again."
"Wait, her dad is dead?" I asked, my heart taking a sudden drop.
"No, he’s not dead," Abigail clarified, shaking her head. "He just moved to a completely different location far away from her old hometown. April was crying and saying that she was really hoping to go visit her dad as soon as she saved up enough money to afford her own place. She wanted to move far away from this city, but now she can’t even do that because her dad’s current location is completely MIA."
"Oh."
I sat there frozen on my seat, completely unable to say anything else.
I really couldn’t believe April hadn’t told me a single thing about any of that.
The two of us have never actually communicated with each other beyond having wild sex, eating meals together, cuddling in bed, and me constantly trashing her mother’s reputation.
I have literally never once sat down and asked her what her childhood was like, or what it was actually like for her growing up back in her old town.
