Third Person
There was once a young girl named Angel Morningstar who genuinely believed she had the most peaceful, happy family in the entire world. Her mothers always showed her warm, bright faces whenever she was in the room. They seemed completely perfect together, just like a normal, loving family should be.
Until one fateful night, when Angel had a terrible nightmare. The five-year-old girl couldn’t sleep alone in her room, so she clutched her favorite teddy bear tight against her chest and decided to walk down the quiet hallway to her parents’ bedroom to join them in bed.
For the very first time in her young life, she heard her parents screaming, arguing, and cursing at each other through the door.
Before she could even knock, her mother stormed straight out of the bedroom. At first, the tall woman was completely shocked to see her little daughter standing right there in her pajamas, holding her teddy bear pillow with teary, frightened eyes. The mother couldn’t even bring herself to say a single word to her daughter. She simply turned her face away and stormed right out of the mansion into the cold night.
When little Angel slowly crept up to the open door and looked into the bedroom, she saw her other mom sitting on the edge of the bed, weeping silently for the very first time.
When the little girl walked into the room on quiet feet to gently ask her mom what had just happened, the woman only looked at her with hollow eyes and replied,
"Angel, my darling, your mother doesn’t love me anymore..."
Angel didn’t understand what those heavy words truly meant back then, but she climbed onto the bed and stayed right by her mom’s side through the whole night.
Ever since that violent argument, Angel’s mother didn’t return home for several days. Then, out of nowhere, she came back home, and everything suddenly seemed happy all over again. Both parents put on gentle smiles and looked perfectly happy together in front of the staff.
But it wasn’t really over at all.
Whenever the little Alpha’s parents had a bitter fight behind closed doors, her mother wouldn’t come home for days on end. Then those painful days slowly turned into long, empty months.
By the time Angel turned eight years old, she only ever saw one parent sitting at the dining table at home.
Within those three grueling years, Angel’s mom turned heavily to drinking alcohol. Strong alcohol became her instant go-to cure whenever she had a fierce quarrel with her absent wife.
Despite all the chaos at home, Angel always worked tirelessly to get straight A’s on all her school report cards. She desperately wanted to be just like her mother, someone brilliant and successful that her mother would actually be proud to claim.
Her classmates at school always talked excitedly about all the happy things they did at home with their parents over the weekends, sharing stories about visits to fun amusement parks, warm family dinners, and sunny trips to the local zoo.
Angel had absolutely nothing to share during those morning circle times, mostly because her parents’ broken relationship was completely different from the wonderful way the other students described their normal families.
Yet despite the rotting, broken home she returned to every afternoon, Angel would still force a bright smile onto her face and act like everything was completely okay with her world.
One afternoon, she returned home right after school only to find her mom sitting on the living room couch, softly crying into her hands. Angel stood by the doorway in silence, her heart sinking. She couldn’t even focus on continuing her studies that evening. She kept thinking to herself that maybe, just maybe, if she became the absolute top student in her entire grade level, her other mother might finally decide to come back home for good.
But being a top student never once got her mother’s real attention. Her mother was always far too busy running her business deals out in the district.
Angel was sitting alone in the dining room having her dinner when her mom finally walked into the room. The weary woman pulled out a chair and sat down in her usual seat while the maid quietly served her a warm plate of food.
"Mommy, I got A in English class today, and an A-plus in Mathematics..." Angel started explaining, her face lighting up as she eagerly went over her top grades to her mom.
"Angel, will you please spare me the time tonight? I really do not want to hear your voice right now..."
Those harsh, icy cold words came tumbling straight out of her mom’s mouth. She wasn’t even bothering to look up at her daughter’s hopeful face.
Angel always talked about her school grades to her mom during dinner, and her mother used to listen attentively, even warmly praising the young girl for all her hard work.
"Okay, Mommy..." Angel said softly, forcing a wide, cheerful smile onto her face as she tried her absolute best not to feel deeply hurt by her mother’s cold dismissal.
Suddenly, the landline phone on the side table started ringing loudly, and her mom quickly picked up the receiver. After receiving the brief call, the woman sat completely still and calm for a terrifying moment.
Before little Angel could even put another small bite of food into her mouth, she heard the loud, shattering sound of heavy glass smashing violently onto the floor tiles.
Her mom was losing her mind all over again.
She began wildly throwing and breaking whatever her trembling hands touched on the long table, sweeping plates and crystal cups off the edge in a dark rage.
"Mommy, what is happening?!"
The little Alpha was utterly terrified by her mother’s sudden, violent behavior.
The maid, Gloria, gasped in total shock at the sudden act of destruction from the lady of the house. She stood frozen by the kitchen doors, watching in horror as the little Alpha quickly left her seat and ran forward, trying her best to grab her mom’s arms to stop her from destroying everything in sight.
"Your mother is never coming home again!" the woman shrieked, her voice cracking as tears streamed down her red face. "She is not coming home!"
She kept furiously throwing heavy items directly off the table. Then, as she threw another dish aside, one of the sharp edges of a broken glass plate grazed hard against the little Alpha’s bare arm as she desperately tried to calm her mom down.
