"I’m so sorry, my precious child... Mommy really didn’t mean to hurt you like this. Please forgive me..."
Angel’s mom cried out, her hands trembling as she carefully treated her little daughter’s bleeding wound.
"It’s okay, Mommy. It doesn’t hurt at all, see? I’m a strong Alpha. This is absolutely nothing." Angel forced a bright, wide dimple smile onto her face as she looked up at her mom. Despite the sharp, stinging pain pulsing through her arm, she didn’t want to show even a single drop of her suffering.
Her mom smiled back through her wet tears, pulling the girl into a tight, warm hug and pressing a gentle kiss directly onto her forehead.
"You know Mommy always loves you more than anything... Hmm... my sweet little Angel..."
"I love you too, Mommy... I will always be your darling little Angel."
The very next day at school, when all her close friends caught sight of the bandage wrapped around Angel’s arm, they immediately crowded around her desk and asked what had happened to her.
Angel simply smiled, looking them dead in the eye, and lied through her teeth, telling everyone that she had merely fallen down the high stairs at home.
Even the teachers couldn’t bring themselves to believe her silly story, mostly because the long, sharp slice of a wound didn’t look like anything caused by a simple tumble down a flight of stairs.
They examined the girl..
Then quickly called her guardian. Since River-West School knew exactly who Angel’s mother was in the district, the school board directly contacted the Master of the district herself and reported the entire domestic incident.
That was the very first time Angel saw her mother in person after three long months of her never coming back home.
It was also the single first time her mother had ever bothered to physically step foot inside her school building.
The Master took one look at her young daughter and sternly asked her what had actually happened to her arm, and Angel just repeated the exact same lie she had told the teachers earlier.
The Master demanded the complete truth on the spot, but little Angel still didn’t want her mother to get angry with her mom or start another fight at home.
So she lowered her head and lied all over again, claiming that she had accidentally cut herself while playing with sharp items in her room.
Instead of embracing her or checking her injury, Angel received her very first harsh slap across the face from her mother right there in the office.
The Master angrily reprimanded the little Alpha for having the audacity to lie to her face in the first place.
She coldly told Angel that she had been forced to abruptly leave a crucial business meeting just to come all the way down here and deal with this embarrassing mess.
That single word, mess, was the absolute first insult Angel had ever received straight from her mother’s mouth.
Following that incident, the Master stayed home with her wife for a few full days, personally trying to teach the young Alpha proper manners and strict discipline.
During those rare days together, Angel saw her mom wearing that same beautiful, radiant smile she always had whenever her wife was actually staying home. The Master even set up her business affairs to work straight from home.
That terrible incident made little Angel realize something incredibly important deep down.
Whenever something bad or dramatic happened, her mother would actually come back home.
She would take the time out of her busy schedule to teach Angel proper manners and give her some direct home training.
So, from that exact day forward, Angel’s tireless attempts to constantly get perfect grades on her school reports turned into the complete opposite.
She started deliberately failing her classes, getting low grades across every subject.
She got into loud, violent fights with other students in the hallways or cafeteria.
She broke every single major school rule she could find.
She did anything and everything just to get her mother’s direct attention back on her.
Her mom..
She desperately wanted her mom to be happy again, to stop crying alone in lonely rooms or drowning her endless misery in heavy alcohol.
Every single time Angel failed an important test or exam, she got a hard slap across her face.
Sometimes, when her behavior got far too wild, she was beaten directly by her mother’s ruthless bodyguards under strict orders.
Yet whenever her other mom entered the room and noticed her physical injuries, Angel hid all her pain deep inside and put on a bright, silly smile, just so her mom wouldn’t know how much she was truly hurting on the inside.
Angel eventually became completely used to the constant beatings and the endlessly low grades.
Nothing in regular life interested her anymore.
Her only true interest became breaking every rule imaginable so her mother would constantly get summoned to the school office.
Because whenever her mother came, even though Angel would get beaten afterward, at least they would all stay inside the mansion together like a real family for a little while.
Still, Angel’s painful sacrifice was never enough to fix the rot at home.
Staying inside that large house just meant constant screaming arguments, throwing objects, and endless bitter quarrels every single night.
The married couple became more and more estranged over time, constantly throwing blame at each other for the complete disappointment Angel had turned out to be.
Then one dark day, Angel lost control during a fight and almost killed a fellow classmate on the school grounds.
Her mother didn’t even want to sit down and hear the actual reason why Angel had beaten the classmate so severely.
Madam, who was serving as Angel’s mother’s right-hand woman, stepped in and firmly suggested that Angel be sent away to a strict disciplinary school where she could finally learn proper etiquette and control her Alpha rage.
Angel was destined to inherit her mother’s vast empire someday, and Madam deeply feared that if left unchecked, the girl would grow into a total tyrant.
So, at the tender age of 13, Angel Morningstar was officially sent away to a harsh disciplinary military school meant specifically for unruly Alphas.
Four long years later, at the age of 17, Angel finally returned home to the district.
But what she found waiting for her was by far the absolute worst condition she had ever seen her mom in.
Her mom was now nothing more than a deeply lonely wife, a heavy drug addict, a hopeless alcoholic, and severely depressed beyond repair.
All of Angel’s years of suffering and efforts to make her mom smile again had been completely useless.
The Master even had a permanent personal secretary living around, who also happened to be her secret side mistress.
The powerful woman Angel had once looked up to as her grand hero, the Alpha figure she had wanted so badly to become as a child, was no longer the person she remembered when she was 5 years old.
The pure, unconditional love Angel once had for her mother slowly turned into a dark, burning resentment that would never truly go away.
