Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)

Chapter 124: April Sees Her Mother’s True Intentions

April’s mother stood up from the round table and reached out, trying to forcefully grab April’s hand, but Angel held her grip tight and wouldn’t let go for a second.

"If you don’t let go of her hand right now, I will personally have Anthony cut off your hand," Mrs. Morningstar warned her daughter, her voice sharp enough to cut glass.

Still, despite the heavy threat, Angel completely refused to let go of April’s fingers.

April looked around the clearing and quickly realized that the escalating tension was causing a massive public commotion all over the beach.

Guests were whispering and staring directly at them.

"Angel, let go of my hand," April said, keeping her voice low but firm.

"But I..." Angel tried to explain, her eyes wide as she looked down at her.

"I said let go of my hand."

April pulled back with all her strength and yanked her hand completely away from Angel’s grip.

Without wasting another moment, April’s mother offered a quick, formal apology to all the people present at the event and excused herself, dragging April away with her toward a private place inside a resort building.

Angel instantly tried to follow closely behind them, but Anthony stepped up and blocked her path before she could take another single step forward. Mrs. Morningstar coldly ordered security to escort Angel completely out of the district grounds.

Meanwhile, inside the quiet private room, April’s mother finally let go of her daughter’s arm.

"It has been months since we last spoke to each other properly. Not even a single phone call from you..." April’s mother said, folding her arms across her chest as she turned around to stare directly at her daughter.

Just like April, she possessed dark hair, although hers was cut into a sleek, shoulder-length style, and she didn’t wear glasses like her daughter did.

"I was busy," April said, looking off to the side, not even wanting to look at her mother’s face.

"I have told you countless times to stop working that silly job in the college library."

"Is it actually true?" April muttered softly under her breath.

She shifted her gaze back to her mom. "You got married 6 years ago, and not 4 years ago like you always told me?"

April still couldn’t bring herself to believe what she had just heard out on the sand. She had always gone through her life believing her mother had gotten remarried right after her high school graduation days were over. Or something in-between but....

"Yes," her mother replied smoothly, not a trace of shame in her voice. "I have been officially married to Mrs. Morningstar for 6 years now."

Her mother paused for a beat, letting the silence fill the room.

"I have answered your question. Now, when Angel stood up out there and called you her lover, what on earth did she actually mean by that?"

April remained completely silent for a long moment.

She knew all too well how her mother might violently react to the bare fact that she and Angel were involved in some kind of messy relationship. She had just watched Angel’s mother slap Angel hard across the face for even uttering such bold words in public, and now she genuinely wondered what her own mother would end up doing to her if she confirmed Angel’s public confession.

"It just happened, Mom..." April confessed, taking a small step back as she swallowed her fear. "We... Angel and I are actually in a real romantic relationship."

April’s mother scoffed loudly, letting out a sharp breath as she tried to hold back a sarcastic laugh.

"So that arrogant brat was actually telling the complete truth out there," her mother said, shaking her head. "You are sleeping with my wife’s only daughter..."

"I already know exactly what you want to say to me, Mom!" April rushed her words out, her voice rising as she desperately tried to defend herself before her mother could unleash a wave of insults. "You want to tell me that I have disgraced you! That Angel is supposed to be my legal sister! But Angel doesn’t accept me as her sister or her stepsister at all. We aren’t related by blood whatsoever. She is an Alpha, and I am an Omega. You were the one who put me inside that mansion alone with an Alpha, and we..."

"I am not done talking yet, April," her mother interrupted, her voice dropping into a cold, dangerous register. "Will you please let me finish my sentence?"

April instantly became silent, biting her lip and not uttering another single word.

What came tumbling straight out of her mother’s mouth next was something April never in a million years expected to hear from her.

"In all your years of living, April, this is officially the very first time you are finally showing some actual sense."

April’s eyes widened. "What?"

April couldn’t understand what she was hearing at all.

When she looked up into her mother’s face, she saw a soft, calculating smile that she barely ever saw on her.

A proud mother’s smile.

"Do you really think I didn’t know exactly what I was doing when I put you inside that mansion with her?"

Her mother took a slow, deliberate step closer to her, closing the distance between them.

"I know what I gave birth to. An Omega."

She reached out, gently lifted April’s chin with her manicured fingers, and smiled warmly down at her daughter’s shocked face.

"I am so remarkably proud of you, April. This exact outcome is the main reason I don’t regret fighting so hard to get full custody of you back then. Because I always knew that one day, you would grow up to become an heiress’s bride."

April was left completely speechless, her breath catching right in her throat.

Hearing those calculating, transactional words come straight from her own mother made something deep inside her heart sink into complete darkness.

She really was nothing more than a strategic investment to her own mother.

"I was actually going to start formally preparing you for that role very soon, but you completely surprised me tonight," her mother continued, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "How on earth did you manage to seduce that arrogant Alpha?"

"I didn’t seduce Angel..." April stammered, pulling her chin out of her mother’s grip as she stared at her in total disbelief.

A dark, heavy thought crossed April’s mind, making her stomach churn.

"Did you seduce Mrs. Morningstar and marry her solely for her wealth?" April asked in a low, disbelieving tone.

For years, Angel had constantly thrown that exact insult in April’s face, calling April and her mother the exact same thing:

Gold diggers.

April’s mother just smirked, stepping forward once more and leaning down right toward her daughter’s ear to whisper.

"Tell me, my sweet girl, what do you honestly think? If I had wanted to settle for silly thing like love, I would have stayed and settled with your impecunious father."
