Falling For The True Heiress

Chapter 58: Who Did You Sneak Out Here To Call?

Sylvia picked up the garment box and walked behind the changing curtain.

A few minutes later, her voice came from behind it.

"Melissa..."

"Can you help me with the zipper?"

Drake looked toward the curtain. Melissa had stepped outside moments earlier to answer a phone call.

After a brief hesitation, he walked over.

"I’ll help," he said quietly.

Before Sylvia could recognize his voice, he reached through the opening in the curtain and carefully pulled the zipper up.

Sylvia frowned.

The hand felt... bigger than Melissa’s.

"Melissa," she said slowly. "When did your hands become so big?"

She reached back and caught the person’s wrist.

As she turned around, her eyes immediately fell on the familiar red birthmark on his wrist.

She froze.

"...Drake."

She let go of him at once and took a step back, her brows knitting together.

"What are you doing here?"

Drake immediately lowered his hand. "I’m sorry," he apologized.

"Melissa stepped out to answer a call. I heard you asking for help, so I thought I’d do it instead."

Sylvia stared at him through the curtain for a long moment. Then her expression turned cold.

"Get out."

Her voice was quiet, but firm enough to leave no room for argument.

Drake nodded once. "I’m sorry."

He turned and quietly walked away.

The curtain fell still again.

Sylvia closed her eyes and slowly let out the breath she’d been holding.

"What is wrong with him...?"

She shook her head, pushed the incident to the back of her mind, adjusted the gown, and continued getting dressed.

Sylvia took one last steady breath before drawing the curtain aside and stepping out.

The room fell silent.

She stood there in a champagne off-shoulder satin gown that embraced her slender figure before flowing effortlessly to the floor.

The fitted bodice hugged her slender waist before flowing into a graceful floor-length skirt, while the smooth satin shimmered softly beneath the lights with every subtle movement.

The elegant off-shoulder neckline revealed her delicate collarbones, adding a touch of quiet elegance to her youthful beauty.

Her long hair, styled in soft half-up, half-down curls, cascaded gracefully over her shoulders and down her back, perfectly complementing the gown.

The natural makeup enhanced her features rather than hiding them. Her bright eyes seemed more captivating, her rosy lips softer, and her flawless complexion glowed under the warm lights.

She wasn’t dazzling because of the gown. She was dazzling because she wore it so effortlessly.

For a brief moment, no one spoke.

Even the makeup artist and hairstylist stood frozen, admiring the young woman standing before them.

Melissa slowly smiled, pride filling her eyes.

"I knew it," she murmured.

"This gown was made for you."

Even Drake couldn’t look away.

His gaze lingered on Sylvia, a flicker of amazement crossing his face.

She had always been beautiful.

But today...

She was breathtaking.

Melissa walked toward Sylvia with a warm smile, her eyes slowly taking in every detail.

She circled around her once before stopping in front of her again.

"Perfect," she said with satisfaction.

"Absolutely perfect."

She reached out and gently smoothed an invisible crease on Sylvia’s shoulder before adjusting a loose curl that rested against her collarbone.

"I don’t think there’s anything else to fix."

The makeup artist nodded in agreement.

"The makeup complements the gown perfectly."

"And the hairstyle brings everything together," the hairstylist added with a proud smile.

Sylvia lowered her eyes and glanced at herself once more.

For a moment, she almost didn’t recognize the girl staring back at her.

It had been a long time since she had dressed up like this.

"So..." Melissa clasped her hands together with an excited grin.

"Ready to become the center of attention?"

Sylvia let out a helpless sigh. "I was hoping the books would get the attention."

Melissa laughed. "They will."

"But today..."

She smiled softly.

"The author deserves some attention too."

Sylvia shook her head with a faint smile.

"I still don’t like crowds."

"I know."

Melissa gently squeezed her shoulder. "But you won’t be alone."

"I’m right beside you."

Sylvia looked at her for a second before nodding.

"Okay."

Melissa smiled brightly. "That’s my Sylvia."

She turned toward the door. "Shall we?"

Sylvia took one last look at herself in the mirror.

Then she picked up her handbag and the folder containing her manuscript.

Taking a slow, steady breath, she walked toward the door.

Drake silently stepped aside, giving her enough room to pass.

Their eyes met for the briefest moment.

Sylvia looked away first and walked past him without a word.

Drake stood where he was, silently watching her disappear down the hallway.

A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

"...I’ve really lost her."

~~~~~ Amelia’s POV ~~~~~
I woke up still feeling drowsy.
Without opening my eyes, I instinctively reached out, searching for Sylvia beside me.
Instead, my hand landed on someone’s warm body.
My eyes flew open.
Camila.
I blinked twice before the memories of last night came rushing back.
Right...
I wasn’t home. I had stayed over at Camila’s house.
A faint smile crossed my lips.
I lifted Daniela’s arm carefully from around my waist before quietly slipping out of bed.
I grabbed my phone from the bedside table and walked out of the bedroom, gently closing the door behind me.
The hallway was quiet.
Morning sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, painting golden streaks across the polished marble floor beneath my feet.
I unlocked my phone and immediately sent Sylvia a text.
A few seconds passed. I smiled to myself.
No...
A text wasn’t enough.
I tapped her name and brought the phone to my ear.
The call connected almost instantly.
The moment I heard her soft, sweet voice, my heart melted. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling.
God...
I’m really falling for this girl... over and over again.
By the time the call ended, the bedroom door behind me creaked open.
"Morning, Lia."
Daniela stepped out first, stretching lazily before covering a yawn.
I looked at her and smiled.
"Morning, Ela. Did you sleep well?"
She nodded with a sleepy smile. "Mmm."
A few seconds later, Camila walked out as well.
She leaned casually against the doorframe, her slightly messy hair making her look softer than usual.
"Morning, Cam."
I walked over to her with a smile.
"Morning, Lia," she replied quietly.
Her gaze drifted to the phone still in my hand.
"So..."
She folded her arms across her chest.
"...Who did you sneak out here to call?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
