I gently pressed Sylvia against the wall and met her gaze.
Even though she kept telling me she was fine, I could still feel that something was wrong.
"Babe, talk to me, please," I pleaded, giving her my cutest pout.
Sylvia shook her head. "Babe, I’m fine."
I frowned.
She wasn’t fine.
I could see it in her eyes. I could feel it in the way she was avoiding my gaze.
But she still wanted to stand there and pretend nothing was wrong.
"Babe, when did you start lying straight to my face?" I asked, still staring at her.
Sylvia remained quiet.
I sighed and nodded slowly.
"Fine."
I turned around and started walking toward the bathroom.
Maybe she didn’t want to tell me.
Maybe she needed some time.
But before I could take another step, Sylvia suddenly reached out and caught my wrist.
I stood there without turning to face her.
"Babe, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to lie to you."
I still didn’t turn around.
A few seconds passed before I felt her step closer. Her arms slowly wrapped around my waist, pulling me gently against her.
"I’m sorry," she whispered. "I was just missing you."
She pressed a soft kiss against my neck, making me close my eyes for a moment.
I tried to keep my face serious, but my anger was already beginning to crumble.
I pulled myself away from her and turned to face her. "Are you a hungry beast?"
Sylvia laughed softly and nodded. "Yes. Only for you."
Seriously, this woman knew exactly how to make me forget why I was angry.
And the worst part?
I couldn’t stay mad at her for even a minute.
I shook my head and turned toward the bathroom.
"Fine. Just don’t lie to me again."
She immediately nodded and gave me a playful salute.
"Yes, wife."
I stopped walking for a second. A small smile tugged at my lips. "You’re impossible."
Sylvia grinned behind me. "But you still love me."
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t stop myself from smiling as I continued walking.
"I’ll go and get ready," I said without looking back.
I pushed the door open and walked into my room.
I stepped into the bathroom and pulled the door closed behind me.
The quiet click echoed softly through the room.
A few moments later, I heard the bedroom door close with a soft click.
"Looks like she has gone to her room."
I turned on the shower, and a moment later, warm water came rushing down. I stepped beneath the water and let it run over my shoulders.
The warmth felt good against my skin.
I closed my eyes and tilted my face upward, letting the water slide through my hair and down my cheeks.
For a few seconds, I thought about nothing, and then Sylvia came to mind.
Her smile.
Her voice.
The way she had held me earlier.
I remembered the warmth of her hands and the way she had pulled me closer whenever I tried to move away.
A small smile slowly tugged at my lips.
I shook my head.
Why was I smiling?
I could still remember the feeling of being wrapped in her arms, and somehow, just thinking about it made my cheeks grow warm.
I opened my eyes and looked toward the mirror. The glass was already covered with a thin layer of steam, leaving my reflection slightly blurred.
"Amelia..." I sighed. "Get yourself together."
I gently slapped my cheeks. "Wake up, Amelia." I stared at my reflection for a moment. "You have training today. You don’t have time to stand here thinking about Sylvia."
I reached for my shower gel, but the smile on my face refused to disappear.
I shook my head and laughed softly.
"Seriously..."
I rubbed the shower gel between my palms as the fresh scent filled the warm air.
"That woman is becoming a serious problem."
I poured some shower gel onto my sponge and started scrubbing myself, letting the warm water wash over my skin.
I rinsed myself off before reaching for my shampoo. I worked it through my hair, gently massaging my scalp before rinsing it out.
I followed with conditioner and let it sit for a moment before rinsing it out. I made sure to rinse my hair and the rest of my body thoroughly.
I turned off the shower and reached for a towel.
I dried myself before grabbing another one and wrapping it around my hair. I gently rubbed the towel through my wet hair, trying to get as much water out as possible.
I kept drying my hair until it was no longer dripping wet.
I switched off the dryer and placed it back on the table before running my fingers through my hair.
I looked at myself in the mirror.
My hair was still a little damp, but it was much easier to manage now.
I reached for my hairbrush and gently brushed through the strands, starting from the ends before moving upward.
I plugged in my hair straightener and waited for it to heat up.
Once it was ready, I divided my hair into small sections. I placed the straightener near the roots of one section and slowly pulled it down toward the ends.
I repeated the same, carefully straightening each section until my hair looked smooth and neat.
I ran my fingers through the strands after each section, checking that there were no stubborn waves left.
Once I was done, I looked at myself in the mirror and gently brushed my hair into place.
I unplugged the hair straightener and placed it carefully on the table to cool down.
I picked up my body lotion and squeezed some into my palm. The familiar scent filled the air as I rubbed it between my hands before applying it to my skin.
I slowly worked the lotion over my arms and legs, rubbing it in until my skin felt smooth and soft.
When I was done, I placed the lotion back on the table and stood up.
I walked over to my wardrobe, my bare feet making soft steps across the cool floor as I started looking through my clothes.
I looked through my clothes before pulling out a simple white T-shirt and a pair of high-waisted black cargo pants.
I untied the towel from my body and slipped into my clothes.
I walked over to my shoe collection and picked out a pair of black sneakers. I carried them back to the room and placed them near my dressing table.
I walked toward the bathroom and pushed the door open. I stepped inside, hung my towel, then walked back out and closed the door behind me.
I returned to my dressing table and slipped into my sneakers.
I sat down in front of the mirror and decided to do some light makeup.
I started with a little foundation, spreading it gently across my face and blending it until my skin looked smooth and even.
I added a little concealer beneath my eyes before brushing my eyebrows into place.
I picked up my blush and lightly brushed it across my cheeks, giving my face a soft glow.
I added a thin line of eyeliner and applied a little mascara to my lashes, making my eyes look brighter.
Finally, I applied a soft pink lip gloss and pressed my lips together.
I leaned closer to the mirror and looked at myself.
The makeup was simple, but I liked it.
I smiled softly before standing up.
I picked up my small handbag from the side of the dressing table and checked inside to make sure I had everything I needed.
My phone.
My wallet.
I nodded to myself and placed the bag over my shoulder.
I glanced at the mirror one more time, smoothing down my T-shirt and making sure my cargo pants sat comfortably around my waist.
My eyes drifted to my hair.
It was straight and smooth, falling neatly around my shoulders.
"Okay, Amelia. You’re ready."
I picked up my phone and checked the time.
My eyes widened when I realized how much time had already passed.
"Shit. I’m going to be late."
I walked toward the door and opened it. I stepped outside and closed it behind me.
I walked down the hallway toward Sylvia’s room. When I got there, I knocked on the door.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
"Babe," Sylvia called from inside.
I pushed the door open and walked in before closing it behind me.
The sound of running water immediately caught my attention. It was coming from the bathroom.
Then, to my greatest surprise, Sylvia walked out of the bathroom with shampoo still foaming in her hair. She looked like she had been washing her hair when I knocked.
"Jesus, babe!" I screamed, bursting into laughter.
Sylvia looked at me through her foamy face and smiled.
I shook my head, still laughing. "Why did you come out like this?" I asked, looking at her.
"Because you’re knocking," she replied innocently.
I shook my head again and looked away. "I’ll see you when I get back, okay?"
"Okay, but babe..." She paused. "My kiss."
I turned to look at her. "How am I supposed to kiss you looking like this?"
She reached up and wiped some of the foam from her face, only to spread more of it across her cheek.
I smiled and walked toward her. I gently wiped the foam from her right cheek before leaning forward and placing a quick kiss there.
"Happy?"
She nodded with a satisfied smile. "Happy."
I smiled. "Bye."
She waved at me as I turned around and walked out of the room.
