Final Villain's Broken System: Geniuses Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 14: Freedom"What?"
The mage’s eyes went wide as he watched the Knight die.
Such incredible casting speed in the Mage rank itself! I need to get my hands on that secret!
Sir John’s eyes flashed with greed as his spell model was finally activated.
Spell Model - Lightning Spear
A jagged spear formed mid air, covered in crackling white sparks before it shot towards the dragon.
Even from afar, Alaric could discern that the speed was noticeably slower than the flame spear used by Zephyr.
The dragon, which was locked in combat with the Knight, had enough time to use a body technique.
Body Technique - Obsidian Scales
Even though the dragon was pitch black, somehow, his scales still took on a darker shade.
The lightning spear hit the dragon, but failed to breach the reinforced scales before dissipating.
Having suffered minimal damage, Zephyr kept contending with the remaining Knight.
Unlike his Magic Path, Zephyr’s talent in the Body Path wasn’t high enough to sustain multiple body techniques. He waited until Obsidian Scales had fulfilled its purpose before switching to another body technique.
Body Technique - Titan’s Might
He roared, bringing down his paw.
When the Knight felt the mobilization of the mana, he thought it was just the usual practice of strengthening the body with mana.
Such a misunderstanding was only natural. Knowledge of body techniques was almost nonexistent.
He brought up both his arms to defend, but the titanic amount of force behind the paw caught him by surprise.
As his knees buckled, Zephyr swiped his other paw, this time from the side.
Body Technique - Sundering Claws
Even though Zephyr had already deactivated Titan’s Might, the force and the element of surprise behind it had still needed the full strength and focus of the Knight, leaving him insufficient to deal with the incoming attack.
Crunch!
The claws, which were strong enough to break Grock in a few tries, only managed to pierce halfway through the ribcage. However, that still turned out to be enough as they had pierced the heart.
The Knight died with his eyes full of confusion.
How can one have such drastically high physical strength when we are both in the same rank?
Alas, his questions couldn’t be answered now.
Just then, earthen roots grew from the floor, binding each of the dragon’s limbs while a massive ice spear was launched at it.
The tip of the ice spear glowed, as if it had been enhanced. It was clear that it was much more destructive than the earlier lightning spear.
Turns out that the mage had used the time when Zephyr was dealing with the Knight to cast three spells.
Spell Model - Ice Spear
Spell Model - Penetration
Spell Model - Earthen Grasp
Zephyr stayed his ground, engaging the mage directly. As a talented member even among the dragons, his casting speed was much faster than the mage.
Spell Model - Detonation
Body Technique - Obsidian Scales
Spell Model - Heat Amplification
He first detonated the air in the ice spear’s path, hoping to veer it off course. Then, for the worst case scenario, he prepared a defense for his body and increased the heat of surrounding air to reduce the lethality of the ice spear.
Unfortunately, his calculations were slightly off. The detonation only partially deflected the ice spear.
It passed through the heated area, losing some momentum before hitting the dragon on its shoulder, managing to pierce its scales but couldn’t go any further.
Zephyr roared in pain, but still managed to cast two more spells.
Spell Model - Flame Spear
Spell Model - Detonation
The mage’s eyes went wide in panic at the quick counterattack but he couldn’t activate his defensive spell model in time.
He could only watch as the spear pierced his body.
When the dragon saw that the three of his captors had died, he stared, breathing slowly.
He couldn’t believe it.
Profound relief washed over him.
Decades of being a captive! Blood taken every week! He had even been allowed to advance to Knight and Mage rank only so that they could get better blood quality.
A lifetime of being a livestock all came to an end now!
An intense sense of liberation flooded his entire being.
But then he remembered that his savior had been fighting so many squires by himself all this time!
The sound of his own fight with the explosions, spell impacts and roaring had drowned out all the other sounds.
Alaric himself wasn’t even a Knight or a Mage, how could he handle so many people at the same level as him?!
The dragon turned around, and what he witnessed shook him.
It was a carnage.
Bodies lay strewn everywhere, while a lone man stood leaning on a table, cleaning his knives.
No wonder the place was so silent. Alaric had killed them all!
The dragon couldn’t help but compare Alaric to his younger self. At the Squire stage, he doubted if he could have even matched him.
The comparison naturally favored Alaric’s specialty.
Minor mastery in throwing knives was specifically suited for killing, while the dragon in his squire stage couldn’t have used body techniques. And even if he could, his body techniques focused on combat.
When it came to killing, Alaric would always come out on top.
As the dragon was lost in his thoughts, Alaric noticed Zephyr looking his way.
"Done? Is there anything else you want to do?"
He put the cleaned knives in the two nearest places on him and began retrieving knives from the corpses while waiting for the dragon to respond.
"No. I—"
Alaric didn’t say anything, merely picking up his knives as silence reigned. He would always wipe the knives on the clothes of the victim to clean them before putting it back on his body.
The dragon closed its eyes.
A long breath escaped its nostrils.
"I am free."
The dragon glanced at his own paws. There were no thick chains binding them. He still found the whole situation surreal.
Two hours ago if someone told him that he would gain his freedom and obtain revenge by killing his captors, he would’ve just silently stared at the nonsense they were spouting.
After retrieving all the knives, Alaric walked up to the dragon and patted his scales.
Just then, something happened which shocked Alaric to his very core.
The dragon slowly went invisible. That wasn’t actually the important bit.
The mind boggling part was that Alaric didn’t sense any usage of mana.
His eyes went wide! Body, Magic, and Official, all used mana as a fuel.
But there was one which didn’t. One which even the protagonist didn’t have till the point where he had read.
As if to confirm his thoughts, the system sent a notification.
