Final Villain's Broken System: Geniuses Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 15: VariableTo say that Alaric was surprised would be an understatement.
Divine Ability was something even the protagonist didn’t have.
It was only mentioned in Tales of Golden Era when introducing one of the princesses of the kingdom. Only she alone had a divine ability in the entire volume one.
One could naturally infer how rare divine ability was from that alone.
Due to their sheer rarity, no one had ever uncovered the conditions required to awaken one. Countless theories existed.
Some said talent, some believed it had to be luck, some speculated it was hereditary, while some hypothesized only those with great destinies received one.
None of them were confirmed.
The only information Alaric knew was that divine abilities ran on mental strength. Overusing it would cause one to fall unconscious.
Followed by his surprise was confusion, which was directed at the system’s message.
Divine abilities have ranks too? And what is this concept supposed to mean?
It says the concept of Zephyr’s divine ability is freedom and invisibility is the function.
While Alaric was in thought, he felt a heavy weight on his shoulder.
When he turned his head, there was no one there.
Oh. It’s him.
His eyebrows went up.
And indeed, he heard Zephyr’s voice just a beat later.
"I awakened a divine ability. It lets me go invisible. I don’t know how but it feels epic to not be seen.
"No one will know I am a dragon. No one will want to capture me now. I’ll grow strong enough that no one can capture me either."
Zephyr’s statement caused Alaric to go deep in thought.
To not want to get captured...freedom huh? Is this what concept means?
The thing around which the function of your divine ability is based?
Alaric also noticed how he could still feel and hear Zephyr. The divine ability’s effect was limited.
The divine ability is at Rank D...
Which means divine abilities could likely grow stronger.
More importantly, the system hasn’t listed Invisibility as the divine ability. It has listed Freedom as the concept and Invisibility as the function.
The System wouldn’t waste words. If it went out of its way to distinguish the two, then the distinction has to matter.
If Zephyr wants to improve his rank, could freedom somehow be the hint?
Alaric pushed these things to the back of his mind and spoke.
"I hope we can swear another blood oath to not divulge whatever happened here."
The dragon cancelled his invisibility and nodded. It didn’t know why Alaric asked for a blood oath regarding this, but he saw no issue with it.
Once they were done, Alaric spoke again.
"I hope you can stay by my side for a few days. It will allow you to rest, gather information on the outside world, and decide where you want to go.
"My companion is outside, I hope you can hide your presence from her. I don’t want anyone else to know about you."
Zephyr nodded. That was a reasonable arrangement.
Of course, Alaric didn’t plan to let this genius go. So he only had a few days to convince him to stay by his side.
Asking for anything longer would’ve sounded like an attempt to keep him, something Zephyr might’ve resisted. A few days was short enough to seem reasonable while still giving Alaric time to work.
The worst case scenario would be if Zephyr still decided to leave in the end.
At which point he could only leave his contact information with Zephyr for when he would need to cash in the two favors he had.
Once they decided on their course of action, the dragon turned invisible and left the cavern.
As soon as Zephyr left, Alaric received the system message.

The system had an inbuilt storage where it kept all the rewards. Alaric had tried, but couldn’t store anything other than the rewards given by the system in that storage.
He temporarily didn’t touch the reward, but studied the information contained in the papers and equipment.
Apparently, after sending a set amount of dragon blood somewhere, the people here would use the remaining amount to conduct experiments.
They had tried injecting dragon blood into humans in hopes of granting them strength without requiring breathing techniques but every experiment failed without exception.
Throughout the decades, they had few other experiments but nothing seemed to have worked.
Chuck it. Not like I could have used the successful experiment on dragon blood anytime soon anyway. If I asked Zephyr for his blood, I would already be lucky if he merely never contacts me again.
Every bit of trust I’ve built would disappear.
He destroyed everything there and carried the corpses out.
Two Knights, one Mage, and around twenty Squires. Another massive haul of resources!
Unfortunately there wasn’t anything else valuable in there.
After Alaric took out the important stuff, he felt the rest could be left to his House to handle.
When Alice saw the loads of corpses being carried out by Alaric, her eyes went wide, especially when she felt the loads of pressure from those bodies.
Two Knights, a Mage and so many damn Squires! Just what the fuck happened?
Alice was tempted to ask if she could take a look at the place but she knew Alaric would turn her down.
He hadn’t called her when he went back with the jar of Fire Gel, so it was obvious he didn’t want her there.
Then her eyes narrowed.
There is no corpse of a beast among these. Did he somehow cooperate with it to kill all of these here?
Alice felt she had stumbled upon the answer, but couldn’t quite grasp the details as to what exactly happened down there.
If she had seen the dragon and the chains, she would not have been so confused at the moment.
Alaric didn’t explain to her, but simply tied all the corpses together and put them in the storage compartment at the back of the carriage.
Fortunately, the carriage was magically enhanced, so he wouldn’t be smelling the corpses while sitting in it.
While Alaric was returning to the mansion, several territories away, an individual entered the study of the head of House Yuglev.
"Lord, the team of one Knight and fifteen Squires we sent to House Orlen has missed two consecutive reporting windows."
The lord looked up from the papers on his desk and glanced at the individual he had assigned to receive scheduled reports.
He frowned. "Are you sure the magical artifact isn’t malfunctioning?"
The individual shook his head. "The mage working for our House confirmed there was no issue with it."
The house head leaned forward, his back straightening as he interlocked the fingers of his hands.
"There must’ve been a variable at House Orlen we failed to account for."
