Final Villain's Broken System: Geniuses Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 16: CooperationAs they were on their way back, Alaric took out the Mana Compression Pearl from the System storage.
This was an item which hadn’t appeared in volume one of Tales of Golden Era, nor in the memories of the previous young lord, so he had no idea what it was.
He had an inkling from the name itself, but no concrete information.
Naturally, he did what the protagonist would do in Tales of Golden Era whenever he had no information on the system’s reward.
System, can I get information on what this is?
As soon as he mentally called out to the System, an influx of memories arrived.
It took him a moment to digest, after which his eyes went wide.
He held the Mana Compression Pearl with a beating heart, now knowing its value.
This can help a Mage break through to Champion Mage?
He thought with an incredulous expression on his face.
Through the Tales of Golden Era, he knew that if a Mage wanted to break through to Champion Mage, they would have to condense the mana in their mana core into a liquid form.
And Mana Compression Pearl helped exactly with that!
Not to mention, unlike the Mana Channel Construction Orb which was a one time use item, this was a treasure which could be repeatedly used!
Alaric had more confidence now in believing that the first quest of his connected genius gave a reward disproportionate to the difficulty of the quest.
Although the Mana Compression Pearl was of less use to him personally than the Minor Mastery of Throwing Knives, it had far more importance when it came to growing his power!
With this treasure in hand, he could trade with the dragon, and more importantly, the Magic Towers, which housed plenty of Mages.
Anyway, this item was useless to him at the moment, it would be better to acquire benefits by using it for others.
Of course, he had to be careful not to strengthen his enemies.
He reluctantly put it back into the System storage and brought his excitement under control.
I now have more confidence in bringing the dragon under me.
As he leaned back into the carriage, he asked the System for a confirmation just in case.
For divine abilities, there are higher ranks above ’D’, correct?
The System confirmed it.
Can I know what they are?
No response.
As expected.
Even so, the confirmation was enough. Before this, he’d merely assumed the ranks followed the familiar letter system from Earth, where games commonly categorized things as F, E, D, C, B, A, and S.
Alaric reached the house when the sky had already darkened.
Instead of the two suns, there now hung seven moons in the sky, all of different sizes.
"Young Lord, shall I have a bath prepared?" A maid asked him when he entered the mansion.
"Not now. I’ll notify my attendant."
He had already asked one of the servants to store the corpses in a safe place.
Currently, he was heading towards his personal training room.
He kept the door open for a while longer, closing it only when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
"I thought I was going to faint."
Zephyr spoke, turning off his invisibility. There was a visible trace of exhaustion in his draconic eyes.
Alaric took a seat and said. "Divine abilities consume mental strength. If you overuse them, you will indeed fall unconscious."
The dragon tilted his head. "How do you know that? Do you also have a divine ability?"
Alaric chuckled and made a grand sweeping motion with his right hand while saying.
"Did you not notice? I am from a noble house. My mother is a Paragon Knight. I am privy to more information than the common populace."
The dragon’s eyes went wide. "A Paragon Knight?"
Alaric only smiled.
The dragon let out a slow huff. "If only I knew who my mother was."
The smile faded from Alaric’s face as he slightly bowed. "Sorry for bringing up the topic."
The dragon waved its paws. "No no. You don’t need to be sorry. I made peace with this a long time ago.
"When you spend decades locked up with no hopes of escape, you think and come to terms with many things."
There was silence in the private training hall for a moment before Alaric asked.
"If you wish to not get captured again, invisibility is certainly a good way to ensure that, but the core remains your power.
"I’m sure you’re aware of that. Do you have any plans regarding that?"
The dragon shook his head.
"No specific plans. I’ll find a secluded place with a river and beasts for sustenance and practice my breathing technique to grow stronger."
"You are not interested in resources? They save a lot of time when it comes to getting stronger."
The dragon did a very human-like shrug. "Dragons have a naturally long lifespan. Pretty sure time is not an issue."
Alaric chuckled, leaning forward. "Do you truly believe the world will wait for you to get stronger?
"Did the world wait when you were just a baby?"
The dragon’s gaze darkened. Alaric had ruthlessly brought up his deepest wound.
But he couldn’t refute the cold hard facts.
"What do you suggest?"
Alaric patiently hinted. "There are powers like noble houses which grant you resources in exchange for your service. Or you can also work for individuals who are rich enough to sponsor the resources for your growth."
The dragon understood, but as Alaric expected, his eyes held a hint of wariness within them.
Zephyr didn’t speak, neither did Alaric.
The latter had a pensive look on his face.
Zephyr values his freedom more than personal power?
Did a lifetime of captivity teach him to value freedom more than power?
Is it because his individual power was useless when he wanted to free himself?
Alaric sighed.
At this point, bringing out the Mana Compression Pearl wouldn’t do much.
Appealing to power is useless if the individual themself places their freedom above power.
The Mana Compression Pearl appeals to ambition, not necessity. Someone who has spent decades imprisoned wouldn’t gamble away his freedom for the promise of becoming stronger a few years sooner.
He shifted the topic.
"Is there any knowledge of divine abilities in your bloodline?"
The dragon thought for a moment before speaking. "Only that it consumes mental strength."
That’s the same as what I know.
Alaric nodded, then asked.
"Have you ever thought that your divine ability could get stronger?"
He sees his divine ability as a means for his freedom rather than an addition to his individual power. This might be a better entry point.
The dragon’s eyes glittered with surprise. "Divine abilities can get stronger?"
Yea, I didn’t know either. There was no knowledge of this in the previous young lord’s memories, nor in Tales of Golden Era.
Alaric nodded. "It’s nothing definitive. But more like a hint."
This time, the silence lasted for several minutes before the dragon asked.
"Can we draft the terms of our cooperation?"
Lets fucking go!
