Final Villain's Broken System: Geniuses Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 17: Quest completionOnce both Alaric and Zephyr took a blood oath regarding their cooperation, the former leaned forward and spoke.
"The core around which your divine ability revolves should be the key to advance it."
He deliberately used ’should be’ instead of speaking with certainty. The blood oath would punish deliberate falsehoods, and he couldn’t present an unverified hypothesis as fact.
As expected, the dragon caught on to it but didn’t put him on spot.
Zephyr knew that knowledge on divine abilities must be incredibly rare for even his bloodline only contained that mental strength was consumed when using them.
The fact that Alaric’s house had more information than even the bloodline of dragon’s race spoke volumes about their strength.
"My divine ability’s core? What do you mean?" Zephyr asked for clarification.
Alaric refrained from using the term ’concept’, as it was coined by the System. He intended to keep this knowledge uncertain, so he answered.
"Something like a belief? The cause behind your divine ability? I already have an inkling of what it might be for you."
The dragon was silent for a moment before hesitantly speaking out. "Freedom?"
Alaric nodded. "Keep exploring it."
At that moment, the System sent a message.
[Quest: Eliminate the hidden slave market in Tikka Town (Zephyr Nightscale)]
[Reward: Glacial Halberd Spell Model]
Nice! Knowledge of a spell model would be useful when I devote myself to the magic power system. I wouldn’t need to buy it from magic towers.
In fact I can even sell this one if they don’t happen to have this spell model.
Also, Tikka Town huh, Evan’s quest location is there as well. I wonder how things will go.
"That’s it for now. Rest here for the night while I instruct my people to prepare secluded living quarters so you wouldn’t need to use your invisibility as often."
After saying that, Alaric left his personal training hall.
He didn’t immediately assign him the task since it would be inconsiderate of him to do so after everything that had happened. A night’s rest would be appropriate.
After taking a bath and changing into a new set of clothes, he had a hearty dinner and retreated to his bed chamber.
If Evan had completed his quest, I would’ve used the Mana Channel Construction Orb right now, but nevermind, it’s not bad to finally have a rest.
As a Squire with incredibly physical foundations, his body was in fine shape despite the two back to back fights.
However, the same could not be said for his mind. He very much appreciated that he would finally get to rest.
*****
After Alaric finished having his breakfast, he headed towards his personal training hall.
Zephyr, who had gone invisible as soon as the door opened, cancelled his divine ability once he saw it was Alaric.
Once the young lord settled himself on the chair, they engaged in some idle chatter before Alaric got to the point.
"I need you to eliminate a slave market hidden in Tikka Town. I’ll give you a map so you don’t get lost.
"If possible, please don’t let yourself be shown. Do it stealthily. Hunt some wild animals on the way if you’re hungry."
What if he only needed to eat once a week? What if he needed a large amount of food to sustain himself?
Alaric had no idea of the dragon’s diet, appetite or digestion capacity so it was better if he gave Zephyr free reign in this aspect rather than get him to eat breakfast and other meals in the mansion.
Zephyr nodded, and flew out of the mansion stealthily. His invisibility extended to any inanimate object but it would also consume mental strength proportional to the object’s weight and mana complexity.
An ordinary steel sword imposed only a minor burden, whereas a sword engraved with mana circuits would consume significantly more mental strength.
Once Zephyr left, Alaric smirked.
Maybe I can use the Mana Compression Pearl for greater benefit now that we’re already cooperating.
I’ll have to think of something good.
He then thought of the mana crystal deposit which was free to mine now. He just had to think of how to do it discreetly.
There is no use asking Alice. If she wants to preserve the flow of the story, then House Orlen not making any moves on the mana crystal deposit would be in her best interests.
Alaric went to his study and took out a map.
It was a magnified map which detailed only the House Orlen’s territory and those of the surrounding nobles.
The mine lay in an unchartered region between House Orlen to the south and House Drakeford to the north. The two territories met at the region’s eastern edge, while mountains blocked it off from the west.
Therefore, the only real threat to being discovered while mining was House Drakeford.
It was headed by a Count, therefore they ranked lower than House Orlen in terms of political power and authority, but Alaric knew that didn’t help much.
House Orlen was currently politically isolated and also had no strength for extra matters, therefore they were weak on both fronts.
Since the mine was on land owned by no one. Coupled with the fact that they had nothing to fear against House Orlen, they would contend for it with their full might.
It was even possible that other parties might secretly support House Drakeford from the shadows to drive out House Orlen from the mana crystal deposit.
Alaric took out the Mana Compression Pearl, gazing at it while plans formed in his mind.
Do I have to use it already?
While he was in thought, a system notification manifested in his mind.

Alaric’s eyes lit up.
Finally, I can take the final steps toward becoming a Knight.
