Alaric took his seat behind the mechanism, hidden from Grok’s view and put his hand on the Mana Compression Pearl.

He had half a mind to make some sounds on top of all the fake actions he had already performed, just for the love of the game, but decided against it.

Grok might get suspicious if he went overboard.

Finally, he called out. "You can start now."

The next moment, he sensed mana. It came in from one tube, entering the Mana Compression Pearl which Alaric controlled.

There, Alaric controlled the amount of compressed mana being sent out, allowing only a tiny portion to flow through the other tube.

A moment later, he heard a hearty laughter from Grok. "Hahaha, thank you, Young Lord. I’ll make sure to properly complete the tasks you give."

Alaric smiled. It truly felt good to get thanked by the one you’re scamming.

For the next few hours, Alaric controlled the Mana Compression Pearl while simultaneously using Mana Channel Construction Orb for his own progress.

After he began feeling hungry, he stopped the session.

When he moved out of the mechanism after storing the Mana Compression Pearl in the System storage, he saw Grok standing beside the mechanism, having figured that time was up.

"Young Lord, Champion Mage Kyle instructed me to make an offer if the resource proved genuine.

"Arcanum Magic Tower is willing to get into a partnership with you over this resource, or treasure, or whatever it is that helped me."

Alaric chuckled.

So they were skeptical about the effectiveness I promised. Now that I’ve proved it, they want a proper trade, huh.

"What is Arcanum Magic Tower willing to give House Orlen?"

Grok took a deep breath and said. "We are willing to do things which cannot see the light of the day for House Orlen."

Alaric’s eyes immediately held disdain in them as he looked at Grok.

"And while doing those things, you’ll gain knowledge of House Orlen’s weaknesses, secrets, and crimes. Is that what you’re offering?

"I swear, if you all give me one more deal like this, this will be the last time we’ll ever have a deal.

"Champion Mage Kyle can forget about having any kind of contact with House Orlen if he keeps trying to test me like this."

Grok simply kept his hands in the pocket of his long robe, not intending to reply.

Every deal he had attempted to make was on the orders of Champion Mage Kyle, not something he had thought of himself. So he didn’t care what Alaric thought about the deal.

He also didn’t care if Alaric didn’t make any further deal after this since he would have already profited from the current deal.

However, Champion Mage Kyle sure is underestimating Young Lord Alaric a bit too much. I guess Alaric’s drunkard act was convincing enough that Kyle still can’t help but keep testing him in hopes of profiting.

After they left the training hall, Alaric took Grok to the dining hall where they had their meal.

"You can’t teach me the breathing technique of Mages or the spell models right?"

Alaric asked Grok while eating. The latter shook his head. "You jest, Young Lord. Everyone in the magic tower is bound by Divine Contract Scrolls to never share the breathing techniques and spell models you learn there."

"Which means you can share the ones you haven’t learned at the magic tower?"

"Yes. But independently obtained breathing techniques and spell models are rare enough that you would have to be insanely lucky to come across one, and I’m not that lucky."

Alaric finished his meal early so he instructed Grok to stand guard outside his study after he was done eating.

As Alaric was walking towards his study, he saw Steward Edwin walking up to him with a smile on his face.

Not this piece of shit again.

Alaric could already feel a headache coming.

"Young Lord, Arcanum Magic Tower sent an envoy with an extremely attractive deal.

"Since you were in the dining hall, I took it upon myself to meet the envoy.

"The Arcanum Magic Tower is ready to provide five Mages to work under House Orlen as long as we agree to provide them with the resource you’ve kept in your personal training hall.

"Young Lord, can you tell me about the resource so we can make a better judgment regarding the deal."

With each word the steward uttered, Alaric found himself at the point of snapping.

Good. Good. Good. Champion Mage Kyle, you’re far greedier than I thought.

The envoy must already be in the territory, just waiting for Grok’s confirmation if they managed to arrive so fast.

His eyes stayed trained on Edwin as he inwardly laughed coldly.

’You took it upon yourself to meet the envoy since I was in the dining hall?’

So you ignored my warning and went straight to negotiating over something that belonged to me.

You also want to know what resource it is that I have?

Once the steward was done speaking, Alaric commanded with indifference.

"Reject them."

Edwin glanced at Alaric’s face with shock. "But Young Lord, we’ll be getting FIVE Mages."

Alaric laughed in his face. "Do you not understand how dangerous it would be for us if so many foreign Mages were stationed in our territory when the majority of our forces are at the border?"

Edwin’s eyes widened. "They’d dare threaten House Orlen? Young Lord, you shouldn’t worry so much."

He then continued. "That envoy said he was prepared to offer more if we gave him the resources directly.

"Just show me the resource, and I can guide you on how to make the best use of it. Giving them the resource might not necessarily be the best choice. Let me handle this."

With that, Alaric snapped. Before the steward could even react, he was sent crashing into the nearest wall by a slap.

Sensing what had happened, Edwin’s eyes burned with rage due to the humiliation.

Just as the element of fire was gathering in Edwin’s hand, he heard Alaric speak.

"You don’t need to be a steward anymore."

The gathering fire dissipated as soon as Alaric finished speaking. The power Edwin had used was the official power granted to him through his official position, and the moment the Young Lord’s seal stripped him of that position, that power disappeared with it.

With Edwin’s official power stripped, he was just a normal man since he hadn’t practiced any other power system.

Alaric put the young lord’s seal back in his pocket. With Edwin now reduced to an ordinary man, Alaric instructed the servants to finish him off. Edwin knew too much to be let off alive after being kicked from House Orlen.

Alaric ignored the sound of begging and headed to his study.

He took a seat and looked out of the window at the seven moons in the dark sky.

As if to alleviate his bad mood, the System notification arrived right on time.

Alaric threw back his head and laughed when he read the system notifications. Without wasting any time, he bought the Seal of Mind from System shop.

He then contacted Zephyr. "When will you be back?"

The baby dragon replied immediately.

"Early morning tomorrow."

Alaric smiled.

The rumor should reach the capital by tomorrow as well. Let’s see if they dare move against House Orlen after I execute my plan.
