Evan heard that Young Lord Alaric had broken through and was surprised.

Were all his previous actions really just acts?

Evan himself knew how much disdain he had once held toward the Young Lord and House Orlen, but all the recent incidents kept overturning his previous view.

He was now immensely relieved that he had chosen to remain at House Orlen instead of leaving.

When a servant appeared before him with the message that the Young Lord had called him to his personal training hall, Evan had a thoughtful expression as he walked there.

Could Young Lord want to fight me? Does he know that I’ve broken through to the Knight realm, or does he think I’m still a Squire and wants to bully me with his Knight strength to avenge his previous loss?

Evan had no doubt that Alaric was shameless enough to do that.

A moment later, he entered the hall where the Young Lord was standing alone in padded gambeson as if in thought. Alaric turned toward him and pointed at the other set of padded gambeson prepared nearby.

"Put that on and draw your sword. We’re having another spar."

Evan looked at him for a moment before deciding to mention the important detail. "Young Lord, I have already broken through to the Knight realm."

"I know. That’s why I called you here."

Evan didn’t ask how he knew that. He had already accepted the fact that when it came to information, Alaric was extremely unfathomable.

He accepted the order and began putting on the gambeson. Alaric’s attention moved toward the sword hanging from Evan’s waist, which looked far better than the weapon he used to carry around previously.

"That sword doesn’t look ordinary. Where did you get it?"

"I found it inside the abandoned mine."

You mean Orwin gave it to you. Got it.

Alaric was speechless, but didn’t bother asking further and took out several Starsteel knives while Evan drew his sword.

At first, Evan didn’t take the coming fight too seriously.

Alaric had broken through by burning valuable resources, while Evan had completed his mana channels through his own talent and the guidance he had received from Orwin.

However, he soon remembered all the recent events involving the Young Lord.

There were already rumors spreading throughout the kingdom that Alaric had hidden his talent and ambition for years, only revealing himself to achieve maximum achievements and benefits for House Orlen in one sweep.

Even if Evan didn’t believe every rumor, he had personally watched Alaric accomplish enough ridiculous things that being careless would be stupid.

He strengthened his legs and moved forward cautiously.

Alaric was taking this battle very seriously as he didn’t let Evan close the gap and immediately threw the first knife.

Evan had already seen the knives in his hands, but the speed, timing, and accuracy of the attack still caught him completely by surprise.

All this time, only Zephyr was aware of Alaric’s ridiculous minor mastery of throwing knives. And today, Alaric was prepared to reveal this to Evan as well.

Evan barely raised his sword in time, knocking the knife aside before another one approached the left side of his chest.

The second knife forced him to twist his upper body, while the third arrived before he had properly recovered his posture.

Evan used his Minor Mastery of the sword to change the direction of his weapon halfway through the movement. The blade struck the third knife, but the impact made his wrist tremble.

What kind of strength is this?

Two more knives crossed the training hall. Evan deflected one, but the other struck his padded shoulder and cut through several layers of the gambeson before stopping without touching his skin.

Alaric had deliberately reduced its force. This was supposed to be just a spar after all.

Evan didn’t have time to think about that because another knife was already approaching his thigh.

He stepped aside and swung his sword, only to discover that the knife had been aimed at the position he would move toward while dodging.

He managed to block it, but the next one struck the padding around his ribs.

As the exchange continued, Evan gradually realized what he was facing.

Every knife had the correct balance, angle and rotation, while Alaric’s decisions remained accurate even when Evan changed his movements.

As Alaric forced Evan to move around the training hall through a mixture of Starsteel and ordinary knives, he himself moved to the locations where the thrown knives were lodged, picking them up and replenishing his ammo.

Evan finally realised that this insane proficiency was nowhere near ordinary or something which was a result of just some practice.

Minor Mastery in throwing knives?

Evan almost lost his concentration when that thought appeared.

The Young Lord had actually obtained Minor Mastery in a weapon while remaining inside the mansion and pretending to be an incompetent noble heir!

Evan himself had been proud of obtaining Minor Mastery in the sword as a Squire, and even Orwin had treated that achievement as proof of his terrifying talent.

Yet Alaric had achieved the same thing without anyone outside House Orlen knowing about it!

Waves of shock assaulted his mind as he thought of that.

This can’t continue. I need to close the distance.

Evan sent more mana through his legs and rushed forward.

He stopped trying to deflect every knife cleanly, instead protecting his vital areas while accepting another strike against his gambeson.

Once he crossed the remaining distance, his sword swept toward Alaric’s side.

He had expected the fight to become easier once Alaric could no longer throw comfortably, but that expectation disappeared during their first close exchange.

Alaric avoided the sword and struck its flat surface with a Starsteel knife, nearly knocking away the sword from Evan’s grip, causing the protagonist’s expression to change drastically!

Evan had already been suspicious when he had felt the strength of the thrown knives, but experiencing it in close combat was whole another thing!

The force travelling through his weapon was far beyond what a newly advanced Knight like Young Lord should have been able to produce!

Just how strong is Young Lord?!
