After Mira arrived, Alaric looked at both the kids and took a deep breath before explaining everything he had learnt about the Dragon Rider Path.

Mira already knew that she had received something incredible from the general information and breathing technique inside her mind, but Alaric’s explanation gave her a much clearer understanding of what she could eventually accomplish.

For several moments, she remained in disbelief that she had gained access to something so powerful just by riding Zephyr.

Alaric also advised her to continue practising the Knight Path alongside it.

He had expected the increased workload to worry her, but Mira became even happier after learning that she would still be able to practice the Knight Path and make herself stronger on top of the Dragon Rider Path.

Alaric raised an eyebrow at that.

This girl...getting stronger is really everything for her huh? That experience of seeing her dad die to save her and Valen only to still be helpless kidnapped must’ve been quite traumatic.

While Alaric was in thought, he heard Mira asking for a pen and paper.

"What for?"

"To record my Dragon Rider breathing technique. I’ve learned it all due to the opportunity bestowed to me by Young Lord. I can’t be selfish and keep this to myself."

Alaric coughed into fist since he had done what his conscience asked him, not with any grand or noble intentions. He had practically invested close to zero effort.

However, he couldn’t deny that he wasn’t curious about the Dragon Rider breathing technique.

Can I practice it too?

When Mira finished writing the breathing technique, he took a look, and started practicing it, but midway through he couldn’t practice anymore.

Not surprised. If such a Special Power system could be so easily disseminated then many of them would be in the world right now.

Well, at least I have a copy of something rare and legit. Maybe I can use it to scam someone in the future?

He then wondered looking at the young girl.

Did awakening the Dragon Rider Path subtly change her body to make it suitable for this breathing technique?

He couldn’t confirm the possibility without more information.

Next, he moved onto explaining the new function of Zephyr’s Divine Ability.

The baby dragon was equally surprised when he learnt how his Divine Ability had changed.

He had expected its improvement to revolve entirely around hiding, so discovering that it now incorporated traces of power left him baffled.

But then, the baby dragon slowly began nodding with a thoughtful expression.

His experience involving Mira and her younger brother had clearly changed his opinion about the importance of strength, even if he didn’t want to admit it openly.

Mira noticed his reaction and smiled. "So you finally understand that hiding from everything isn’t enough?"

"That is nonsense. I never thought hiding was the only important thing," Zephyr argued without any hesitation. He had no bottom line when it came to arguing, going back on his words without a moment of hesitation and shame.

Mira didn’t bother continuing because she had only wanted to tease him.

Alaric instructed both of them not to reveal anything about the Dragon Rider Path or Zephyr’s improved Divine Ability as they were extremely rare and amazing powers, and the majority of the people in the world hated seeing others get good things the most.

He didn’t want to force them into signing a Divine Contract over something which belonged to them rather than him, so he only advised not exposing it.

However, knowing both of them, Alaric knew that Zephyr would have no interest in telling outsiders about his abilities, while Mira would rather spend her time becoming stronger than attracting attention for no reason.

As expected, both of them showed instant aversion toward the idea of revealing something this important.

After sending them away, Alaric returned to the training hall and spent the rest of the evening testing his strength and growing accustomed to circulating mana through his body.

He finally went to sleep after exhausting himself, with only one thought occupying his mind.

Tomorrow, Marchioness Orlen will finally return.

This was someone Alaric didn’t have much information about despite receiving memories from the previous owner of this body.

It was strange how the previous owner of this body didn’t have many memories about his own mother, but Alaric simply chalked that up to incomplete memories, just like a few other gaps in his memory.

For example memories of his early years which either didn’t exist or were just very hazy.

The following morning, a messenger reached the mansion with the news House Orlen had been waiting to hear for months.

Marchioness Rowena Orlen had crossed back into the territory with the majority of the army that had been stationed at the southwestern border.

Alaric travelled outside Orlena City with Chamberlain Ryu and the other important members of the household to receive her.

By the time they reached the road, House Orlen’s banners could already be seen in the distance, followed by long columns of cavalry, infantry and supply carriages.

The Royal Family’s reinforcements had finally occupied enough important positions for Rowena to withdraw most of her own people.

The majority of the army had returned with her, but the people who drew Alaric’s attention were the practitioners who had contracts with House Orlen or had served the family loyally for years.

There was one Champion Mage, four Mages and six Mage Apprentices among them.

The Body Path had more people since that had always been the case, with two Champion Knights, nine Knights and six Squires returning alongside Rowena.

The equal number of Squires and Mage Apprentices didn’t represent the actual ratio within House Orlen.

Many Squires had been left behind from the beginning because patrols, guarding towns and maintaining order across the territory still needed to be handled while the main army was away.

As the army drew closer, Alaric finally saw Rowena riding at the front.

She wore a dark colored armour marked with House Orlen’s crest, and nothing about her posture showed that she had spent months commanding a strained border.

Alaric had thought about what he would say when she returned, but every prepared sentence felt strange once she dismounted and walked toward him.

This woman was the mother of the body he occupied, while he was a completely unrelated soul from Earth who had never met her before.

He still stepped forward and greeted her properly. "Welcome home, Mother."

Rowena studied his face for several seconds before placing one hand upon his shoulder. "You handled the territory better than I expected. Well done."

"I did what I could." Alaric gave the safest answer he could think of, and the reunion ended there without an embrace or any emotional conversation.

Fortunately, Ryu came forward next and began reporting on the arrangements made for the returning army. Rowena turned toward him, allowing Alaric to quietly relax while the soldiers continued entering the city.

Several hours passed before Rowena finished dealing with the officers, accommodations and supplies.

Once the most urgent matters were settled, she called Alaric into her study and looked at him from the other side of the desk.

"For a soul that came from another world, you have adapted to my son’s body remarkably well."
