First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 2995 - And What a Casual Strike It Was!Yu Xiu’s eyes flashed. He closed his hands in midair as if gripping a Dao Sword, then swung with all his might.
Countless wondrous, unfathomable streaks of sword qi shook in unison, and the humming of a sword rang out.
Every last streak of sword qi hurtled toward Su Yi.
The crowd felt a prickling pain in their eyes as their fields of view blurred.
Countless swords attacked at once, like a river bursting through a dam.
Practically simultaneously, indescribable sword force emanated from Su Yi’s tall, upright figure. His entire presence shifted, like an unparalleled sword finally emerging from its sheath.
None could match his sharpness!
Wisps of mysterious, inscrutable sword intent hovered around his robes, hair, and skin.
When he raised his right hand, a streak of sword qi condensed in his grip.
It happened in an instant. Those countless incoming streaks of sword qi quivered as if a giant invisible hand had seized them firmly in place.
An earsplitting sword hum swept forth like the tides, then shifted until it resembled the cries of desperate baby birds. The sound shook the heavens.
Everyone watched in horror. Su Yi was just standing there, and the countless streaks of sword qi seemed as if they’d cleave into him at any moment, yet they’d frozen inexplicably in place.
It was like a scene from a painting, a moment frozen in time.
Yu Xiu’s pupils constricted, but before he could do anything, Su Yi raised and swung his sword, as effortlessly as a Buddha lifting a flower.
It was just that light and airy, and just that carefree, to the point that when this strike landed, the crowd felt... as if that strike had always been that way. It was like a matter of course, as natural as the withering and blooming of the flowers or the cycles of the seasons.
It wasn’t at all sudden, and it didn’t seem even remotely out of place.
But the Heavenly Sovereigns’ expressions shifted.
Man followed earth, earth followed heaven, and heaven followed the Dao. All was in accordance with nature.
At least, it was easy to say that. It wasn’t so easy to put into practice!
Su Yi’s strike was more than just “letting the Dao exist in accordance with nature.” It was as if he’d created his own form of the Will of the Heavens.
Those who saw it felt nothing out of place. It was like the natural transformations of heaven and earth.
Everyone’s hearts and minds were affected. They instinctively felt that it had always been this way, and that this was the way it should be!
Opposing Su Yi was thus like opposing the Will of the Heavens. Who could possibly work up the will to fight under the circumstances?
This was why the Heavenly Sovereigns’ expressions shifted.
Because the mysteries imbued in this strike went far beyond its terrifying power. It carried a momentum that shook and intimidated the heart!
A power that said, “Those who adapt flourish, while those who oppose me perish!”
Boom!
The Heavenly Sovereigns’ minds raced. The countless frozen streaks of sword qi rumbled and boomed in unison.
Then, beneath countless astonished gazes, that dense onslaught of sword qi whipped around and pointed at Yu Xiu!
Countless swords submitted, then followed Su Yi’s sword force, stabbing Yu Xiu in the back!
A deathly silence descended over the venue. Everyone’s eyes widened, and their jaws hung slack, as if they’d just witnessed a miracle. They couldn’t even speak.
How astonishing had Yu Xiu’s attack been? How wondrous, and how unbelievable?
Yet in the face of Su Yi’s natural, unassuming slash, it turned on its user!
Yu Xiu had unleashed the attack he took the most pride in, only for it to escape his control and target him instead! Who wouldn’t have been surprised by this development?
Yu Xiu stood there in a daze, eyes wide. The blood drained from his cold, steely face. How... is this possible!? What kind of attainments in the Dao of the Sword must he have?
Yu Xiu’s heart shook, and his calm demeanor gave way to bewilderment.
Meanwhile, Su Yi swung his sleeve.
Boom!
Ten thousand swords dimmed, then faded away. All of their murderous intent vanished.
“That was indeed an impressive strike,” said Su Yi, lowering his hand and commenting.
Yu Xiu’s expression shifted erratically. In the end, he said slowly, “I... lost...”
Every word seemed to carry immense weight. His voice boomed throughout the battlefield, shaking the dazed onlookers out of their reveries.
Yu Xiu had lost!
When they thought back to the battle in detail, they all realized that Yu Xiu hadn’t once seized any advantage at all. In stark contrast, every time Su Yi attacked, he blasted through everything in his path as if it were made of rotten wood!
Especially in their last exchange, when he’d used a power the onlookers couldn’t understand. It was to the point that they dared not imagine how such a Dao of the Sword could exist in this world!
“What kind of strike was that? What was the trick?” Yu Xiu looked at Su Yi.
“It was a casual strike,” said Su Yi. “There wasn’t really any trick.”
Yu Xiu blinked in surprise, his gaze dimming. He pursed his lips, then turned and left the battlefield. It was just that the words “a casual strike” still echoed through his head. A casual strike? And what a casual strike it was!
The crowd could tell that this came as a massive mental blow; Yu Xiu looked totally out of it.
The onlookers’ hearts churned with emotion.
The sixth round was over. Bo Yunjun, Le You, and Su Yi advanced to the finals.
When Su Yi left the arena, the deathly silence broke, and a clamor of voices arose at once.
“How... could Su Yi be this unreasonably strong?” Countless people were bewildered.
He was an Immeasurable Realm cultivator, and few of the onlookers had thought highly of his chances, yet he’d cleaved through every obstacle in his path to enter the top three. This completely overturned the crowd’s perception of reality.
“After this, who’d dare say that Su Yi only managed to kill all those Heavenly Monarchs by borrowing external power?” someone said with a sigh.
Everyone recalled the rumors that, as impressive as Su Yi’s accomplishments in the ruins of the Heart-Tempering Sword House and the Obscured Heavens Mountains were, he’d relied on some external source of power. Most had insisted that his cultivation base was insufficient to kill Heavenly Monarchs. The reality of the situation was like an invisible slap in the face.
“Even Yu Xiu lost. That means Su Yi is qualified to vie for first place,” someone said with concern.
Only Bo Yunjun and Le You stood between Su Yi and the Eternal Throne, but none dared say with certainty that the two of them could stop Su Yi’s momentum!
“Everyone severely underestimated Su Yi.”
“The master of reincarnation really is an anomaly.”
“The Struggle for Heavenly Fate has not yet come to a close. Why sigh prematurely? Let’s just wait and see!”
All of these conversations revolved around Su Yi.
Wang Zhiwu slapped his thigh for sheer excitement. He felt the urge to recite poetry and lavish praises upon Su Yi for the wondrous way in which he’d defeated Yu Xiu. But try as he might, no words came to him. In the end, all he could do was curse. “Fuck!”
Mu Yu felt the urge to laugh, yet he dared not to. Everyone in the All-Profound Dominion knows that when it comes to the Big Boss of Sword Sovereign City, nothing is impossible, no matter how ridiculous it seems!
Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang of Sevendeaths Court glowered, his heart full of indescribable bitterness and despondency. He’d had high hopes for Yu Xiu, and he thought he could borrow his hands to seize first place in the Struggle for Heavenly Fate. Now, all his hopes had come to naught.
“Little Brother, you’ve sure won me over!” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was grinning so broadly that he couldn’t even close his mouth as he clapped Su Yi on the shoulder.
“Don’t celebrate prematurely,” Su Yi couldn’t help but warn him. “This isn’t over yet, and even after it ends, if something happens...”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s smile froze, and much of his joy dissipated.
Heavenly Sovereign Wen said suddenly, “Everyone, only three participants remain in the Struggle for Heavenly Fate. Drawing lots again would be unfair to all of them, so I suggest having the three of them fight simultaneously to determine the ultimate victor.”
All of the conversations died down. Everyone was stunned.
But when they thought about it, Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s suggestion wasn’t unfounded. There really were only three combatants left. If they drew lots again, one of them would advance to the finals without fighting. And that would be far too unfair.
“Well said. I think that would work,” said Heavenly Sovereign Wen. The other Heavenly Sovereigns chimed in after. All of them expressed their support.
Only Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan had a dark look on his face. “Nonsense! Are you planning to break the rules? We agreed that we’d use the Revolving Destiny Lotus to decide all match-ups. Are you going back on your word?”
The atmosphere was stifled. Everyone fell as silent as cicadas in winter. This was an argument between Heavenly Sovereigns. Who’d dare to participate?
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan shouted, “Don’t think I don’t know that you’re supporting this idea purely because you want Bo Yunjun and Le You to join forces against Su Yi. Let me tell you: there’s absolutely no way!”
It would have been obvious to anyone that he was furious.
“This isn’t breaking the rules, but rather, choosing a more appropriate way to conduct the remainder of the competition,” Heavenly Sovereign Wen said calmly. “Using the Revolving Destiny Lotus to draw lots now wouldn’t be fair to Su Yi either, now would it?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said coldly, “Then have them each fight both remaining opponents one-on-one! That would be fairest!”
When Su Yi saw that they were about to keep arguing, he interjected, “There’s no need to keep arguing. Let’s just conduct the third match as they suggest.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was stunned. Everyone else was visibly flabbergasted, too. Doesn’t Su Yi know that their suggestion is highly disadvantageous to him? Why would he agree to it?
Even the other six Heavenly Sovereigns were surprised. Don’t tell me he’s confident he can beat Bo Yunjun and Le You even after they’ve joined forces?
“What spirit!” Heavenly Sovereign Wen laughed. “Ku Xuan, Su Yi agreed to it himself. Do you have anything else to say?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s expression shifted erratically. He naturally knew that Su Yi wouldn’t act recklessly at a time like this, so in the end, he chose not to say anything.
Against all expectations, Le You rose, then said calmly, “It’s a good suggestion, but to avoid suspicion, I can guarantee that I won’t join forces with anyone else!”
He scanned the crowd. “Or, to put it less politely, I disdain joining forces with other people!”
The crowd was in uproar. They couldn’t help but look askance at him.
Bo Yunjun was next to rise and express his view on the matter. “Let’s try it, then. We’ll just have to see who emerges victorious in the end!”
It was obvious that he, too, disdained joining forces to defeat Su Yi
“That’s what I call broadmindedness!” said Su Yi, glancing pointedly at the Heavenly Sovereigns.
The hidden barbs weren’t the least bit subtle.
