First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3007 - The Secluded Ones

Lonely Heights was injured!

The crowd’s hearts palpated with fright, but the heart devil wasn’t satisfied. In life, pummeling someone like Lonely Heights would have been as easy as beating his own grandson. There was no way it would have taken such effort.

Lonely Heights’ expression was ashen, his gaze murderous as he said slowly and clearly, “If you don’t care, what need do I have to be afraid? Let’s just destroy each other, then!”

Boom!

He went all out, heedless of the threat of a backlash from the Laws, gathering all of his strength to fight the heart devil. Heaven and earth collapsed. An apocalyptic aura spread, stirring up the River of Destiny and throwing everything beneath the heavens into upheaval.

The onlookers’ hair stood on end, and they felt chills in their hands and feet. If things went on like this, everyone here would die, no matter their cultivation base!

Zhi Wuzhong looked stricken, to the point that he put away his sunflower seeds and stepped in.

Streaks of dazzling purple light whooshed forth to erect a barrier, separating the onlookers from their surroundings—and by extension, from the heart devil and Lonely Heights’ battle.

At the same time, Zhi Wuzhong grimaced. “Ol’ charlatan, Daoist Brother, could you two cut it out?”

Both of them disregarded him. They were still locked in fierce, terrifying combat.

Zhi Wuzhong was rendered speechless, his heart full of frustration. I just wanted to watch the spectacle, but now, it seems they insist on dragging me underwater. I can’t just disregard this, or everyone here will die, me included!

“You look down on me, huh? You refuse to give me face, huh?” Zhi Wuzhong gnashed his teeth. “Then this isn’t my problem anymore!”

He suddenly dispersed the barrier around the area.

The heart devil burst into laughter. “You should have done this a long time ago!”

Lonely Heights’ face was full of murderous intent. He didn’t say a word.

Their battle raged on. Neither showed any sign of stopping.

A familiar, apocalyptic vision unfolded over the River of Destiny once more. Everyone felt chills course through their hearts.

Two supreme existences were dueling. Were they really intent on fighting until they’d destroyed the entire stretch of heaven and earth?

Su Yi had been watching the entire duel. This was his first time seeing his first incarnation’s heart devil fight so hard. He was completely fearless, with no reservations whatsoever. It was like nothing Su Yi had ever seen before. If he kept this up, he’d drag the entire area down with him, but he didn’t seem to care.

It was highly unusual.

Now, when he saw that apocalyptic vision once more, Su Yi’s heart was filled with solemnity, and his brow furrowed. What is the heart devil playing at? Are he and Lonely Heights competing to see who’s more ruthless? If so, isn’t he being overly wilful and stubborn? But that isn’t how he usually does things!

And Zhi Wuzhong is acting strangely, too. His attitude is unclear. He’s acting like a bystander, but it’s obvious that he has the power to determine the course of this duel. He just isn’t participating. It’s like he’s hoping to swoop in at the very end. He’s like the fisherman hoping to profit from the clam and the snipe’s duel.

But if this apocalyptic disaster befalls us, how could he possibly reap the benefits?

Su Yi couldn’t see through Zhi Wuzhong, which was why he found his behavior so strange.

As his thoughts raced, Su Yi noticed that the Heavenly Sovereigns, Mo Zhong, and the others from the Far Shore of Destiny all had unsightly looks on their faces. They looked both furious and startled, as frantic as ants on a hot pan. There was no doubt about it. They weren’t interested in aiming for mutual destruction, nor were they willing to become casualties of another’s battle, but their hands were tied.

In stark contrast, each expert of Sword Sovereign City was calmer than the one before! It was obvious that they really weren’t afraid to die, and that they didn’t care in the least if heaven and earth were overturned or if a cataclysm destroyed the entire area.

“What’s on your mind, Ol’ Brother?” Su Yi noticed that something wasn’t quite right about Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s expression. He was standing there in a daze.

“I just... I just could never have imagined all of this, and I can’t tell if it’s real or just a dream,” murmured Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan.

Su Yi couldn’t help but feel sympathetic. The Struggle for Heavenly Fate had only just ended, only for all of this to happen. These developments were so terrifying that even Heavenly Sovereigns were helpless; they’d all been forced into the background. It was unquestionably far too great a shock.

It wasn’t just Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, either. Su Yi felt much the same way. He’d thought the Heavenly Sovereigns and the forces of the Far Shore were the greatest threats he’d face today. But the arrivals of Lonely Heights and Zhi Wuzhong had changed everything! Now, an apocalyptic cataclysm was imminent. It would soon sweep the River of Destiny! This development was likely outside of Lonely Heights and other top experts’ predictions, too.

Simply put, when the heart devil attacked without reservation, the combatants lost control of the battle. Its consequences were no longer in their hands. The outcome was unpredictable!

The waters of the River of Destiny surged, the currents raging as if boiling. Strange, terrifying, calamitous power surged forth.

Tribulation light interwove in the skies over the Eternal Heavens Domain. Tribulation clouds surged, and the natural order of the Will of the Heavens manifested, showing signs of an imminent, violent collapse.

All living beings were startled. All of them felt as if they were witnessing the descent of the apocalypse.

Lonely Heights was still locked in fierce combat, but he could sense the impending cataclysm. His pupils constricted, and his heart was instantly solemn. His anger dissipated, and he regained much of his mental clarity.

But it was as if the heart devil didn’t see anything happening around him. He attacked with all his might, seizing this chance to cleave into Lonely Heights once more.

Lonely Heights was in agony, overcome with rage and shock. This guy’s absolutely insane! He seriously wants to destroy everything. He wants to drag all living beings to the grave with him! He really is that closed gourd’s heart devil. He’s far too brutal, frenzied, cold, and cruel!

At the same time, the apocalyptic cataclysm was on the verge of erupting. Everyone shuddered, their courage failing them.

Zhi Wuzhong narrowed his eyes and gazed into the dome of heaven. But it was then that something unexpected happened.

One figure after another appeared beneath the distant dome of heaven, all of them as frantic as if their butts were on fire! All of them intervened in unison, preventing that apocalyptic cataclysm from erupting.

A dark-robed, white-haired elder raised his hand and tossed a boundless river of starlight. Its dazzling, resplendent light enveloped the entire stretch of heaven and earth.

A stalwart man like a grand ruler of the nine heavens swung his saber at the sky, launching a streak of endless, unstoppable saber qi. It suppressed the boiling River of Destiny, preventing an eruption.

A young man in beast skin robes bellowed and swung his fist. Wherever his fist force went, it sealed time and space on all sides.

All manner of unsurpassed, taboo divine abilities appeared throughout the firmament as casually as if they meant nothing at all. Together, they suppressed the imminent cataclysm right in the nick of time.

The waters of the River of Destiny no longer boiled, and the calamitous power enveloping heaven and earth silently dissipated. All of the chaos and upheaval faded away.

This unexpected development shocked everyone present.

“Who are they?”

“It seems like they’re the Secluded Ones!”

“Them?”

“Who else could they be?”

The sound of conversation rang out. Yun Wuxiang and the other experts of the Far Shore all looked astonished.

The Far Shore of Destiny had three Dominions: the All-Profound, the All-Wonder, and the All-Spirit.

The All-Spirit Dominion had long since been laid to ruin. It was now a dead zone forsaken by the Grand Dao.

The All-Wonder Dominion was the most mysterious of the three. It was famously at the terminus of the Far Shore of Destiny; only top experts could overcome its natural barrier of the Grand Dao and reach it.

The All-Profound Dominion was the only one with endless territories and innumerable cultivation factions.

The Secluded Ones were from the All-Profound Dominion, but they were its most ancient, powerful existences. As their title implied, they lived deep in seclusion. All of them were true living fossils of the All-Profound Dominion. The people of the All-Profound Dominion just knew that the Three Pure Ones, Four Heavenly Ministers, Five Elders, and Six Celestials were all among the Secluded Ones.

The progenitor-level Daoist Sect, Three Purities Temple, had been jointly founded by Supreme Purity, Greater Purity, and Jade Purity. However, the Three Pure Ones left in the earliest days of Three Purities Temple’s history, going into seclusion beyond the bounds of the Grand Dao.

The Grand Dao was without name. When they went into seclusion, their names and titles were similarly obscured from the world. It had been far, far too long since they’d last appeared. They were some of the oldest existences of the All-Profound Dominion. They’d vanished for countless years, heedless of worldly affairs. But they lived, and their presence was a kind of formless threat!

Yet now, just as a cataclysm was about to erupt, the Secluded Ones appeared! They’d joined forces to suppress the impending disaster in one coordinated effort! Who wouldn’t have been astonished?

“So that’s it...” Zhi Wuzhong instantly understood. The Big Boss’s heart devil didn’t go insane. Rather, he knew the Secluded Ones were watching their battle, and he wanted to force them out into the open!

Lonely Heights narrowed his eyes as he, too, realized what had happened. His expression darkened; he knew he’d been used.

Why had the Big Boss’s heart devil attacked without inhibition?

His true goal was to force the Secluded Ones into the open! He, Lonely Heights, had been no more than a means to an end!

So, this is what he was really after, huh? Su Yi’s gaze focused. He, too, saw the group that had appeared beneath the dome of heaven.

There were six of them, all of them shrouded in mysterious, inscrutable power of the Grand Dao that prevented him from seeing their features clearly. But he could tell that all six of them were terrifying!

The heart devil chuckled, his voice barbed with mockery. “So, you’ve finally shown yourselves, you craven old tortoises.”

The heart devil immediately lost interest in the duel he’d been fighting, to the point that he didn’t so much as spare Lonely Heights a second glance.

He took a step forward, arrived beneath the dome of heaven, and gazed at the six Secluded Ones, his tone unyielding. “Tell me: how do you plan to resolve this? If your answer doesn’t satisfy me, we can all just die together!”

Lonely Heights’ expression darkened, but he didn’t launch a follow-up attack. He recognized the six Secluded Ones, and he planned to see how they’d respond.

At the same time, Zhi Wuzhong, Su Yi, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, and the others gazed into the dome of heaven.

Only now did they realize that in the Big Boss’s eyes, the ones truly capable of determining the outcome of today’s conflict weren’t Zhi Wuzhong and Lonely Heights, but rather, the six Secluded Ones he’d just forced out into the open!
