First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3008 - Compromise and Concessions

Heaven and earth were deathly silent.

One of the six Secluded Ones was a white-haired, gaunt old man in black robes. The old man sighed. “How do you want to resolve this, Fellow Daoist?”

The heart devil said calmly, “This is the River of Destiny, not the Far Shore, so let’s act in accordance with the rules of the River of Destiny!”

“What do you mean?” asked the old man.

The heart devil chuckled. “Can you represent the others?”

The old man in black fell silent. “Since we stepped forward, we naturally are sincerely interested in negotiating with you. So long as your demands aren’t excessive, everything is up for discussion!”

The heart devil rubbed his jaw, then said, “Don’t you have any shame? You weren’t willing to negotiate until I forced you into the open. Had this happened when I was still alive, there’s no way I’d give you a chance to negotiate with me now!”

The elderly Secluded One’s expression darkened.

Zhi Wuzhong’s gaze was strange, while Lonely Heights rubbed his forehead.

The others were overcome with incomparable astonishment. Who in the All-Profound Dominion would dare to chastise a Secluded One?

But the surprises didn’t end there. The conversation continued; everyone saw the Big Boss’s heart devil conversing with the six Secluded Ones. However, they could no longer hear a word of it. They could tell that the heart devil frequently chastised and insulted the six Secluded Ones right to their faces, and that the Secluded Ones’ expressions were darkening.

This was obviously no simple negotiation. Rather, it was a fierce argument!

Su Yi was completely baffled. What is the heart devil trying to accomplish?

Some time later, the heart devil returned, a cold look on his face. It seemed they hadn’t reached an agreement.

But when he reached Su Yi, he suddenly broke into a grin and transmitted, “It’s settled!”

What’s settled? Su Yi didn’t understand, but before he could ask any questions, the heart devil turned and walked over to talk with the experts of Sword Sovereign City.

But they conversed through transmitted speech, so Su Yi didn’t hear a word of it.

Meanwhile, Su Yi noticed that Zhi Wuzhong, Lonely Heights, and the others had stepped into the air to converse with the six Secluded Ones. They, too, were transmitting their entire conversation, so no one else heard anything, not even their subordinates. This told everyone present that whatever secrets they were discussing were of the utmost importance!

After a brief pause, the heart devil smiled, patted Su Yi on the shoulder, and transmitted, “You no longer need worry about the forces of the Far Shore targeting you before the Far Shore’s impending storm arrives!”

Su Yi narrowed his eyes. “What kind of price did you need to pay to make them agree to that?”

“Price?” The heart devil laughed. “They’re the ones who compromised. They dared not have a falling out with me, so they had no choice but to accept my terms.”

Su Yi knew that although the heart devil made it sound easy, he’d definitely paid for his success. After all, given his personality, if he’d really had such an absolute advantage, there was no way he’d have even given them a chance to negotiate. He would have just attacked by now.

At a fundamental level, “negotiating” was something you did when you lacked an absolute advantage over the other party.

Zhi Wuzhong and Lonely Heights finished up their conversations and returned, too.

“Are you happy now, you old charlatan?” the heart devil said with a laugh.

Lonely Heights said calmly, “No matter how strong you are, you’re ultimately just trying to buy your reincarnation time to catch his breath. You’re far, far inferior to the man you were in life.”

The heart devil’s smile didn’t diminish in the slightest. He pointed to Su Yi and said, “One of these days, my reincarnation will level everything to the ground!”

Lonely Heights furrowed his brow but said no more. It was clear that he was still unwilling to accept this outcome.

Zhi Wuzhong sighed, then gave the heart devil a thumbs up. “You sure live up to your reputation, Daoist Brother. All that remains of you is a heart devil, yet you nonetheless forced the Secluded Ones to compromise. Impressive!”

The heart devil glances at him. “That clone of yours is quite interesting, Zhi Wuzhu. So long as you don’t do anything malicious, I’m sure he’ll be able to live well.”

Zhi Wuzhu, huh? Zhi Wuzhong couldn’t help but sigh. “Daoist Brother, you really are completely different from before.”

The heart devil said calmly, “And that’s a good thing! What the hell do you know?”

Zhi Wuzhong laughed. “I just know that you and Su Yi won’t be able to tolerate each other’s existence forever.”

The heart devil furrowed his brow, but before he could respond, Zhi Wuzhong waved. “Don’t be angry. I’m not trying to provoke you; it’s simply the truth.”

It was then that the old man leading the six Secluded Ones suddenly spoke. “Everyone, we’ve reached an agreement. Can we begin?”

The heart devil straightforwardly agreed. “Very well.”

Lonely Heights and Zhi Wuzhong nodded, too.

The others then watched as the six Secluded Ones worked together to create a massive spacetime portal in midair.

“Let’s go.” The heart devil turned to look at the experts of Sword Sovereign City. “Everyone, this is a stroke of good fortune. It’d be best if you could seize it, but even if you can’t, do your best to survive. Even if you get stuck there, you have to live on!”

Gongye Futu, the River Lord, Gui Nian, Baili Qingfeng, and the others all clasped their fist in union. “Understood!”

There was no hiding the reluctance and grief on their faces.

The heart devil couldn’t help but sigh and try to comfort them. “It’s not like this is the last time we’ll ever see each other. Well, I might not be there, but...”

He pointed at Su Yi. “Another me will be!”

The others exchanged glances, their spirits rising. All of the grief vanished from their faces.

Su Yi was completely baffled. “Where are you sending them?”

The heart devil said casually, “The source of the River of Destiny.”

Su Yi’s heart shook. The source of the River of Destiny!

He’d long since learned that practically all of those experts who’d come here from the Far Shore of Destiny were looking for the River of Destiny’s source.

Before long, the experts of Sword Sovereign City set off, whooshing through that spacetime portal.

Immediately afterward, Lonely Heights, Yun Wuxiang, Mo Zhong, and the others left, too. Even Yu Xiu, Bo Yunjun, and the other participants in the Struggle for Heavenly Fate left.

Over in Zhi Wuzhong’s camp, Mu Yu was the only one to leave, and he cut quite the solitary figure.

“See you later, you charlatan,” said the heart devil, laughing and waving goodbye. “I hope you won’t be so aggressive next time we meet!”

Lonely Heights snorted coldly and was just about to leave when something occurred to him. He turned to face the heart devil. “Do you really think you’ve won?”

With that, he turned and vanished through the spacetime portal.

“What did that mean?” Su Yi furrowed his brow.

The heart devil said calmly, “He’s just complaining. He didn’t get what he wanted today, and he’s unwilling to accept it.”

He then looked at Zhi Wuzhong. “What about you? Do you plan to have this clone follow the Secluded Ones?”

Zhi Wuzhong modestly requested his guidance. “Do you have any advice, Daoist Brother?”

The heart devil said expressionlessly, “Scram.”

Zhi Wuzhong burst into laughter, then strode off. Just as he was about to pass through the portal, he paused, turned, and looked at Su Yi. “You know, from the bottom of his heart, Wang Zhiwu really does think of you as his good brother.”

With that, Zhi Wuzhong turned to leave.

Su Yi blinked, then looked at the heart devil. “Will I... ever see Wang Zhiwu again?”

The heart devil looked at him strangely. “Wang Zhiwu was always Zhi Wuzhong. It’s much like our relationship. They’re both the same person, right?”

“Oh,” said Su Yi. Inwardly, he couldn’t help but feel a bit melancholy. They might be the same person but... are they really the same?

Now, only the six Secluded Ones, Su Yi, the heart devil, and the Heavenly Sovereigns remained.

The atmosphere was tense and oppressive.

The Heavenly Sovereigns had complicated looks on their faces, but they weren’t afraid. Because Lonely Heights had just told them that, according to their new agreement, until the impending storm hit the Far Shore, none of its forces would interfere in anything that happened on the River of Destiny.

That went for Su Yi and his allies, too!

More importantly, the Secluded Ones and the Big Boss of Sword Sovereign City were jointly responsible for ensuring that this agreement was upheld. That meant that even if they killed Su Yi, neither the Secluded Ones nor the Big Boss would intervene. Any expert of the Far Shore who violated this agreement would pay a grievous price!

This agreement naturally reassured the Heavenly Sovereigns. They no longer had any concerns or misgivings. On the contrary, they felt indescribably relaxed and delighted. Because this was the River of Destiny. Now that the forces of the Far Shore were leaving, they were naturally the mightiest cultivators around! They naturally had no need for further reservations. They neither needed to obey the experts of the Far Shore nor fear Su Yi’s various helpers.

Of course they were happy!

Moreover, Lonely Heights had told them that the days leading up to the coming storm were the perfect opportunity to kill Su Yi!

Suddenly, the heart devil said, “See that? They’re beside themselves with delight. They think that now that they’re free of the forces of the Far Shore, they have nothing left to fear. They think of themselves as lofty and superior.”

The Heavenly Sovereigns fell silent, instantly solemn.

The heart devil continued, “They’re already planning how to go about killing you. How about... I seize this opportunity to kill them all for you now?”

The Heavenly Sovereigns looked stricken.

The old man in black robes, the leader of the six Secluded Ones, growled at the heart devil. “Swordsman, don’t tell me you lied to us earlier? Do you plan to renege on your promise?”

The heart devil laughed and waved dismissively. “I’m just kidding, but look at you, freaking out over nothing! Am I the type to renege on an agreement like that?”

No one knew what to say to that.

The old man was still in a huff. “We took a big step back this time. If you try anything over the next few years...”

Before he could finish, the heart devil looked up at him and said coolly, “Are you threatening me?”
