From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 804 - 804: The Hunter Keeps The World OutOmina stopped the folder before it cleared the cabinet.
The burned gold seal hung halfway out, bright enough to tint the edge of the tablet screen. Mason slept on the cot behind Jade, one hand still wrapped around the dinosaur under the blanket. Outside the frame, the tablet had already found a blanket edge, a cot rail, and the smear of gold light near his feet.
Kieran the Hunter saw the same theft and put one hand on the cot frame.
"Move the cot far enough that the screen cannot borrow him."
Jade bent to the wheel lock without asking why. Waddell took the other side and checked the dark part of the tablet as they moved. The cot rolled badly over a patched strip in the shelter floor. Mason shifted once. Kieran kept her hand on the rail until the heat reached him through the metal and his fingers loosened around the toy.
Ty watched from the Name Office hall and hated how ordinary the motion looked. Adults moving a sleeping child away from paperwork. That should have been simple. In this room, even distance had to be defended before it counted.
Waddell lowered the tablet, then turned it sideways.
"We keep the blanket, rails, and every reflection out."
Jade checked the screen herself. She trusted the room least, then the route, then the people watching through it. Ty trusted her for exactly that reason.
Omina waited until Jade gave one short nod.
"Kieran, give me the limit before the folder starts writing for you."
Kieran stayed beside the moved cot. The gold fire under Mason's feet thinned until it looked like the warmth from a low heater, not a weapon. Her face held steady in the feed. Her hand trembled once against the rail.
"Name separation and public shortening. Nothing beyond that."
Omina drew a filing mark under the folder with the tip of her hilt. The cabinet accepted the limit badly. The burned seal scratched against the wood, and black flakes fell onto the drawer.
Zunoder looked interested in the flakes.
"You are asking precedent from a case while refusing most of the case."
Kieran looked at him through the feed. The angle gave him only one side of her face and none of Mason.
"I am refusing the parts this room would spend on people who never volunteered."
JJ wrote that down. Then she marked a line beside it instead of circling the words. Ty had learned that mark from watching her. Useful, but dangerous if repeated too cleanly.
The folder opened.
The first public label formed in plain language, too blunt to need decoration.
Hunter destroys worlds.
The words sat on the page with the force of a headline. Short. Easy to carry. Easy to shout from a public feed where nobody had to keep the rest of the record in their mouth.
Kieran's fire pulled inward under the cot. Mason stayed asleep.
Jade noticed the fire. She also noticed Mason staying warm. She let Kieran keep both facts private.
Omina tapped the drawer.
"Correction enters only while the shelter remains outside the record."
The folder printed a second line under the first and tried to attach old footage to it. Waddell killed the preview before it sharpened. Another preview offered Kieran's gold light at Mason's blanket edge. Jade blocked that one herself.
The room tried a third angle through the tablet reflection.
Kieran shifted her chair with one foot and broke the reflection. The movement was small. It cost her more than the old page deserved, because every inch away from Mason made her proof weaker.
Ty understood that cost before anyone named it. The room wanted her to defend herself by showing what she was protecting. She had chosen a worse defense because it left a child out of reach.
The folder waited.
Omina looked toward the feed.
"Give the file enough truth to stop merger, not enough to open a trial."
Kieran nodded once.
"Put my proximity in. Put the command chain in. Leave Mason and the shelter out of the file."
Heissman leaned closer despite himself. He looked like a man watching an old lock open with a key he wished he had never owned.
Zunoder spoke before the filing mark could settle.
"That removes the cleanest defense you have left."
"It also removes people who were never asked."
The answer came out tired, flat enough for the room to struggle polishing it. That helped.
JJ set her pencil down.
"I am starting to dislike every correct answer in this building."
The folder accepted the correction in two narrow columns. The public label stayed heavy. The limited truth came in thinner, crowded by qualifications. Kieran had been present in a system chain, direct release stayed unconfirmed, public shortening had caused secondary harm, and full Alexira review remained outside scope.
The lie had one handle.
The truth needed both hands and a lawyer.
Ty looked at the weaker column and still wanted it. Not because it was fair. Because it showed that a bad public name could be separated from a person if somebody paid the cost in the room where the mistake had power.
Omina read the columns without touching them.
"Public simplification is corrected under reduced weight and third-party exclusion."
Zunoder's mouth softened with the kind of patience Ty had learned to distrust.
"Reduced weight means the precedent helps less than you need."
Kieran answered before Omina could.
"Reduced proof is still proof if it prevents theft."
The folder resisted. Hunter destroys worlds pressed darker on the page while the correction stayed thin.
JJ reached for her ledger, stopped, and left it closed. Sponsor weight had already cost her. Spending it here would strengthen Kieran's correction while weakening the next fight for Ty. Everyone at the drawer knew the trade; Zunoder enjoyed knowing it.
He smiled at the closed ledger.
Jade caught the smile through the feed.
"Do not look pleased while a child is being kept out of paperwork."
Waddell made a rough sound under his breath and covered it by adjusting the tablet. Ty would have laughed if his hand had not been trying to close around nothing.
Zunoder gave Jade the courtesy of a small bow.
"The correction is costly because your side made it costly."
Jade kept her voice level.
"The correction is costly because your side keeps reaching for people."
The folder marked both arguments as procedural pressure and tried to add Mason as protected beneficiary.
Jade's palm hit the edge of the tablet. Waddell blocked from the shelter side. Omina's hilt crossed the page before the phrase finished forming.
Kieran spoke last, and the line stopped moving.
"Do not turn him into proof that I behaved well."
The unfinished beneficiary phrase burned away. No ash fell from it. The route kept the cost and lost the child.
Ty let his fingers open. Bone scraped lightly against bone. Yun-Jin glanced at his hand and shifted half a step nearer, close enough to stop him if he forgot where he was, far enough that the choice still belonged to him.
The folder reshaped the correction again and kept four costs beside the limited truth, including distance from the protected child, reduced public defense, admission of system proximity, and refusal to request absolution.
Kieran watched those four costs appear and let them stand.
Omina's voice stayed level.
"The precedent can separate public label from identity lane, but it cannot prove full ownership."
Zunoder accepted that too quickly.
"Then the precedent supports my warning as well as your defense."
Omina nodded once.
"Bad public language can harm a name without owning it."
That was the best answer the folder would allow. Ty hated it. Its usefulness made the hate worse.
The burned gold folder slid backward into the cabinet. Most of the seal went with it, except for one strip left on the drawer.
Torn from an older file, stiff at the edges and marked in a different hand, the strip took longer to show ink. The words came small enough that everyone leaned in before remembering the room punished hunger.
Heissman stopped first.
"That strip belongs upstream from the dispute records."
JJ rubbed the side of her thumb against her ledger.
"Explain upstream without hiding inside more office vocabulary."
Heissman swallowed. His eyes stayed on the strip.
"Assignment files come before disputes, before public labels, and before later damage."
Omina looked from Heissman to the cabinet.
"You knew that before the strip appeared here."
"I knew the structure, never the elevated signer."
"That is the part men say when they hope structure sounds cleaner than participation."
Heissman took the hit. It showed in his shoulders.
"I helped preserve the design that made those files hard to reach."
The strip accepted the admission as witness limitation, not confession. It gave him less weight and kept his knowledge. The room was efficient when it wanted to be cruel.
The ink finished forming.
Signature chain index linked to the purpose assignment file. Elevated signer listed as Erebos Alkandros.
Ty felt the name at the back of his neck before he understood the words. No pain came with it. That made it worse. Pain would have given him something to push against. This felt like a hand already resting there, patient enough to wait for him to notice.
Across the tablet, Kieran sat back beside Mason's cot. Her fire returned to its prior size, warm and low.
Mason slept through the name, the folder, and the old hand reaching for Ty from before the current fight had learned to speak.
No one tried to make his sleep evidence.
