Genesis & Oblivion: The Celestial Evolution System
Chapter 97 — The Seventeenth FloorChapter 97: Chapter 97 — The Seventeenth Floor
The staircase ended beneath a sky filled with stars.
Azrael stepped onto the Seventeenth Floor and immediately slowed his pace.
There was no ground.
No buildings.
No mountains.
The entire floor was an endless field of floating platforms suspended within a vast cosmic space.
Countless stars surrounded them.
Some were tiny points of light.
Others were enormous spheres of fire.
Far in the distance, entire galaxies slowly rotated.
Orin stared upward.
"Are we inside space?"
Caelan shook his head.
"No."
He looked around carefully.
"I don’t think we’re anywhere near normal space."
Azrael activated Origin Perception.
His expression became serious.
"The stars aren’t real."
Seraphina looked at him.
"You’re sure?"
Azrael nodded.
"They’re projections."
He pointed toward a distant galaxy.
"It’s moving, but there are no gravitational effects."
Lyanna looked down.
"Then what is this floor?"
Before anyone could answer, the System appeared.
[Floor Seventeen]
Trial Type: Perception
Objective:
Cross the Celestial Expanse.
Special Rule:
What you see cannot be trusted.
Additional Rule:
The path will only appear when correctly perceived.
Failure Condition:
Leaving the designated path.
Orin frowned.
"So we’re supposed to walk through fake space?"
Azrael looked ahead.
"Not exactly."
He stepped onto the nearest floating platform.
The moment his foot touched it, the platform cracked.
Azrael immediately jumped backward.
BOOM!
The platform shattered into countless pieces.
Orin’s eyes widened.
"That was real!"
Azrael nodded.
"Some things are illusions."
He looked at the remaining platforms.
"And some aren’t."
Caelan frowned.
"How do we tell the difference?"
Azrael didn’t answer immediately.
He closed his eyes.
The old master’s lessons returned to him.
Don’t rely only on your senses.
Azrael activated Resonance Sight.
The entire floor changed.
The stars disappeared.
The galaxies vanished.
Instead, he saw countless threads of energy stretching through the darkness.
Some platforms were connected to the threads.
Others weren’t.
"The real path has resonance."
Seraphina smiled.
"Then lead the way."
Azrael stepped forward.
The first few platforms were easy.
Azrael followed the faint resonances.
Caelan and the others followed behind him.
But the farther they went, the more complicated the floor became.
Thousands of platforms appeared.
Some were enormous.
Some were barely large enough for one person.
Some looked completely identical.
Others appeared and disappeared every few seconds.
Azrael stopped.
"There."
He pointed toward a small platform.
Caelan looked at it.
"That one?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"It has no resonance."
Caelan frowned.
"Then why choose it?"
Azrael smiled.
"Because the absence is the clue."
He stepped onto it.
Nothing happened.
The others followed.
A second later, every other platform disappeared.
Only the one beneath them remained.
Orin stared.
"So the fake platforms were the ones with resonance?"
"Not exactly."
Azrael shook his head.
"The Tower was creating false patterns."
"The real platform was the only one that didn’t follow them."
Lyanna smiled.
"That’s annoying."
Azrael laughed.
"That’s probably why we’re here."
Several hours passed.
The group continued through the Celestial Expanse.
The trial became increasingly difficult.
Eventually, Azrael’s perception began to hurt.
His vision blurred.
He deactivated Origin Perception.
Seraphina noticed immediately.
"Are you okay?"
"I’m fine."
"You don’t look fine."
Azrael smiled.
"I’m just using too much perception."
Caelan looked ahead.
"Then rest."
"We can wait."
Azrael shook his head.
"No."
He looked toward the endless platforms.
"I’ve been making the same mistake."
"What mistake?"
"I’ve been trying to perceive everything."
Seraphina understood.
"You don’t need to."
Azrael nodded.
"Exactly."
He closed his eyes.
Instead of searching for every platform...
He listened for the one that mattered.
The noise disappeared.
The countless false resonances faded.
Then—
One faint vibration reached him.
Azrael opened his eyes.
"There."
A small platform appeared in the darkness.
They moved toward it.
The moment they stepped onto it, the System appeared.
[Perception Understanding Increased]
Origin Perception — Lv. 7
Resonance Sight — Lv. 3
False Information Resistance Increased
Azrael smiled.
He was beginning to understand the difference between seeing everything...
And seeing what mattered.
The final section of the floor was different.
The platforms disappeared completely.
Ahead stood a massive black door floating in the void.
Between the group and the door was nothing.
Orin stared.
"There’s no path."
Caelan looked around.
"Maybe we’re supposed to create one."
Azrael approached the edge.
He could feel something beneath the darkness.
A path existed.
It simply couldn’t be seen.
He extended his hand.
Nothing happened.
Seraphina stood beside him.
"Try again."
Azrael closed his eyes.
He didn’t use Origin Perception.
He didn’t use Resonance Sight.
He simply trusted what he had learned.
One step forward.
His foot landed on something invisible.
A faint golden platform appeared beneath him.
Azrael smiled.
"There’s a path."
Everyone followed.
Step by step, invisible platforms appeared beneath their feet.
They crossed the void.
When they reached the door, it opened.
The System appeared.

Seraphina looked at Azrael.
"Your Aetherion awakening increased."
Azrael nodded.
"I can feel it."
"Does it feel different?"
He thought for a moment.
"Yes."
"How?"
Azrael looked at his hand.
"It feels like I’m remembering something."
Seraphina’s expression became thoughtful.
"Remembering?"
"Not memories exactly."
He looked toward the door behind them.
"More like..."
He struggled to find the right words.
"...something inside me is becoming familiar."
Seraphina nodded.
"Maybe that’s what awakening really means."
Azrael smiled.
"Maybe."
Caelan walked toward the next staircase.
"We should keep moving."
They followed.
The staircase was shorter than usual.
After only a few minutes, they reached another floor.
A massive golden gate stood before them.
Above it was a number.
18
Orin looked at it and sighed.
"Another trial."
Lyanna smiled.
"Did you expect the Tower to give us a vacation?"
"Honestly?"
Orin looked at the others.
"Yes."
Everyone laughed.
Azrael placed his hand against the golden gate.
It opened slowly.
Beyond it was a massive arena.
And this time...
There was no System notification.
No explanation.
No objective.
Only a single figure standing in the center.
A young man wearing simple black robes.
He held a wooden sword.
His eyes were calm.
He looked at the five disciples.
Then smiled.
"You’re finally here."
Azrael narrowed his eyes.
"Who are you?"
The young man raised the wooden sword.
"My name isn’t important."
He pointed the weapon toward Azrael.
"But if you want to continue..."
"You’ll have to defeat me."
Azrael slowly reached for Astraeus.
The Sixteenth and Seventeenth Floors had tested their choices and perception.
Now the Tower had finally brought them back to something familiar.
A fight.
