Chapter 101: I'm a druid and proud to be one

“So, Vincarna, might we inquire about the reason for your visit?” Ciliren Omasalor nervously asked while glancing at Lord Ursa.

John was about to reply when he and Mel both received notifications, along with every other player in Genesis.

The pair smiled at each other before John turned to Ciliren Omasalor and said, “Honestly, I’m not sure; I was sent here by the Goddess Astraea.”

“He is here to learn the ways of the primal transformation,” Lord Ursa stated, causing everyone to show looks of confusion.

“Beg your pardon, Lord Ursa, but what is primal transformation?” Tiriana Thezorwyn asked. “Is it similar to our Wild Morph ability?”

“It was what came before Wild Morph,” Lord Ursa explained. “The Druid’s Wild Morph ability allows them to take on the form of an animal they have bonded with, while the Primal Transformation, being older and less refined, only changes parts of their body.”

“So it’s not as good?” Mel asked with a smug look that caused John to roll his eyes.

“That depends on how it is used, young Dream Star,” Lord Ursa replied. “Your Wild Morph skill gives you the skills and abilities of the animal you transform into, such as the strength and toughness of a bear, the stealth and quickness of a tiger, but in exchange you lose the ability to wield weapons. Vincarna’s Primal Transformation will get some of that while most of the time allowing him to continue wielding his weapons, but perhaps it's simpler to show you.”

As he finished speaking, several of the stars that made up Lord Ursa seemed to detach from him and approach the ground just in front of him. Once there, they spread out into equal distances from one another before starlight interconnected them.

John recognised it as some kind of magic circle, though he wasn’t sure exactly what it did and as everyone continued to watch, two beings emerged within the circle that John and Mel recognised.

The little bear cub John had helped back in the starter village materialised alongside its parent, and as they did, both bowed towards Lord Ursa before the adult asked, “We greet Lord Ursa and wonder for what reason you have summoned us?”

While its parent had been greeting Lord Ursa, the little bear cub had been looking around curiously at the new place it had suddenly been brought to, and as it did, it spotted John, causing it to yelp happily and rush towards him before Lord Ursa could even respond.

"Hey there, little fella, what are you doing here?" John asked as the little cub began rubbing against his leg again.

The little cub stopped rubbing its head against him and looked up at John while saying, “I don’t know; the great god summoned us, and here I am, though I’m happy to see you again, big human friend. Thank you for helping me before” After which, the little cub rolled over on its back, showing its belly while saying, “Belly scratches.”

John laughed and happily obliged, causing the little cub to make a contented noise while everyone watched with various reactions. The elves watched in surprise; Lord Ursa and the cub's parent watched calmly, and Mel shook her head with a small smile while saying, “The little guy sure is attached to you.”

John gave her a smirk while asking, “What's wrong? Jealous?” And to his surprise, Mel actually sighed and nodded while saying, “Yeah, I need to form a similar sort of bond with animals so that I can take on my wild morph form.”

“What do you mean?” John asked curiously as Mel knelt down next to him and joined him in scratching the little bear cub’s belly while explaining, “As Lord Ursa explained, a druid's wild morph spell allows them to transform into different animals; however, to do such a thing, a druid and animal must form a bond with one another, though if I’m honest I still don’t really understand what that means.”

At this point, Tiriana Thezorwyn suddenly suggested, “Dream Star, perhaps I should help with your explanation since you are still just an aspirant yourself?”

Mel nodded appreciatively while saying, “Thank you, Elder Tiriana.” While John asked, “Aspirant?”

“Aspirant is the lowest rank among the druids, young Vincarna,” Elder Tiriana began to explain. “As Dream Star here increases her class and grows stronger, her rank within the druids will naturally rise with it. All class orders have their own version of a ranking system, though as the only Warden in existence, I suppose such a thing is meaningless for you.”

John nodded in understanding before saying, “I see. Thank you for the explanation.”

All the elves' eyes widened in surprise, and even Lord Ursa gave a slightly surprised look as it said, “Impressive, Young Vincarna; not many outside the elves can speak their language so fluently. How many other languages can you speak?”

“A few,” John replied, causing Mel to roll her eyes and ask, “Why do you always answer that question the same way?” After which she looked at Lord Ursa and said. “Unfortunately, Vincarna here is too modest, in my humble opinion, but I have also heard him speak Kit very fluently.”

“Is that right?” Lord Ursa replied before adding. “Also, there is nothing wrong with being humble, infact it is one of the traits needed to become the Warden, since pride and arrogance can lead the world out of balance. But remember this, Vincarna, while being humble is a good attribute, you should not refuse to take credit for your own accomplishments.”

“I will take your advice to heart, Lord Ursa,” John said with a slight bow before turning back to Elder Tiriana and saying, “My apologies, you were saying.”

Elder Tiriana smiled in response and said, “It’s quite alright; in fact t’s rather refreshing to meet such a humble, well-mannered human.”

“Hmph, most of them are only interested in gaining more power and care not for the world's natural order, especially those detestable Necromancers,” Elder Rosaniya suddenly remarked, causing the other elders to sigh while Elder Tiriana said, “Forgive Elder Rosaniya, but as you can probably tell, she holds a grudge against necromancers.”

“I see,” John replied before Elder Tiriana began her explanation. “To form a bond between a druid and a beast of the wild means connecting their spirits. Doing this will allow the druid to wild Morph into their form, taking on their shape and attributes such as the strength and fortitude of the bear, or the speed and stealth of a tiger, but also gaining the use of their skills and abilities. Also, once the druid becomes more powerful, they will be able to summon a spirit version of their bonded beasts to aid and support them.

In return for this strength, the druid will always know when the beast of the wild they are contracted to is in trouble and in need of their aid, as the druid is obligated to help them.

Unfortunately, the first bonding is always the most difficult since beasts of the wild have naturally become warier of our races after we began to hunt them for sport.”

“That is because it goes against the natural order,” the bear's parent suddenly stated angrily. “One should only hunt for food and not for sport, like your races seem to take great pleasure in. While you elves have a better understanding of this, the other races seem to forget this.”

Elder Tiriana nodded before looking at Dream Star and saying, “Because of this and her… unique situation, Dream Star is yet to find a beast of the wild that is willing to partner with her.”

{Unique situation? I wonder what that means?} John wondered as he looked at Dream Star, who had her head lowered in a way that didn’t allow him to see the expression on her face. {She was so excited about being able to become a druid, and yet here she is, stuck at the first obstacle.}

As he thought of this, his attention moved from Mel to the little bear cub who looked back at him quizzically before he asked, “Can't she form a bond with this little guy? I mean, they're already friends?”

“Huh!” Mel said as she looked up at him in surprise while Lord Ursa tilted his head and said, “That is for the little one to decide.”

“But Lord Ursa…” The parent suddenly said, only for Lord Ursa to cut it off and say. “I myself determined that young Dream Starr was worthy to become a druid, and while I won't interfere with her training, I will also not let others interfere with it. Or is it that you doubt my ability to judge others”
