Genesis Sync

Sometime later, the five of them were seated at the dining table in John's room.

John had whipped up something and now they were all eating while chatting about Roberta’s theory.

“Wow John, this is really good,” Rebecca remarked before eating another mouthful.

“She’s right, you could be an imperial chief with these skills,” Roberta added.

“Haha, thanks, but I’m not that good,” John replied before asking, "So here is my question: why does hunger not show up in my status panel if it's something I need to keep an eye out for? I mean HP is there, and you can even get the satiated buff."

"To make it more realistic," Rebecca replied before continuing. "While Genesis was originally designed to be a place for the races or just individuals to fight when diplomacy failed, Tia has now expanded it into a completely second world for us all.

As a second world, it needs to maintain a certain level of realism to match the real world while also still fundamentally remaining a game. If it were as realistic as the real world we are sitting in now, then why would anyone want to play it? With HP bars and stats, people can take greater risks and grow stronger in ways they can't in Atlantia.

However, to keep the realism, certain aspects such as hunger, thirst, and holding your breath when underwater are all hidden and you have to listen to the feedback your character's body gives to learn when it needs something. However, as you have seen, once the specific need reaches eighty percent, Genesis will still notify you, and then it is up to the player if they want to fix the issue or take the risk of dying."

Eventually they had all eaten their fill and so the women decided they would head off and do their own thing while letting John get back into Genesis in order to test out Roberta’s theory. Knowing that he would be there the rest of the night, John decided to sync back into Genesis on his bed, so after heading up the spiral staircase, he lay down on the bed in the master bedroom before closing his eyes and saying, "Genesis Sync"

John opened his eyes to find himself still in the graveyard he logged out from before, trying to get his bearings as he wasn’t sure where the graveyard was in comparison to the weapons hall.

Looking around, he saw smoke rising up into the sky and figured it must have been the forge, so he headed in that direction, where he soon found a gate that allowed him to leave the graveyard and re-enter the main part of the town.

After a few minutes, he reached the square near the town entrance, where he saw the backs of the two brothers still leaning against the entrance. John turned away from them before heading back towards the weapons hall, which he surprisingly found to be deserted, and after glancing around to indeed make sure no one was present, he approached the same wooden man post he used before dying and resumed his training.

As before, John lost himself in the moment, and six hours later his vision turned black as the familiar notifications popped up.

A moment later, John's vision came back and after checking his notifications, he saw similar notifications to the last time, minus the messages from Sarah and Rebecca. After clearing his messages, he once again made his way back to the weapons hall before continuing his training.

After a couple of hours, the trainers returned and were surprised to see John still practising at the same post. "Has he seriously been going all night?" The Kitsune asked in shock.

"Apparently so," Frank said proudly.

However, before any of them could decide if they should interrupt him since it had been all night, they saw John suddenly stop, with a large smile on his face.

Over at John's side, the projection had just disappeared before a notification window appeared before him.

"Yes!" John cheered happily.

{I thought I was supposed to get a reward or hidden quest notification? At least according to Jessica. Maybe it doesn’t include parry since it’s not a weapon training?}

"Hey kid, have you been here all night?"

John, who had been lost in thought, heard a voice from behind him and so turned around to find Frank walking over to him.

"Pretty much," John confirmed.

"Wow, not bad, though since you finally stopped, I am guessing the projection disappeared because you learned how to parry?"

"Yup, now it's time to move on to attacks," John said with a smile before moving towards one of the empty circles where he saw individuals practising punches and kicks from yesterday.

"Don't you think it's a good idea to rest first? I mean, you've been at it all night." Frank asked in concern.

"Nah, I'm fine; I still have plenty of energy," John said excitedly while swinging his arm before he entered the empty circle and all the sound disappeared again.

John was surprised when the notifications suddenly appeared, as he had no idea Genesis had a reputation system.

Waving away the notification, John focused his attention on the projection of a human that appeared in front of him and was now performing a basic punch.

John mimicked the projection's stance before he began to practice the different moves the projection performed, once again losing himself in the training and not noticing when he received a message.

A little under four hours later, Dawn Star returned to the training hall before looking around as if she was searching for someone. It took her a minute to find John because of the sheer number of new players who were training here, but eventually she found him.

She ran over towards him with a smile on her face, but soon slowed down as she noticed he was inside one of the circles. She was well aware that no sound could enter the circle from the outside and although she could force John to notice her by moving behind the wooden man dummy, that was not something she wanted to do.

In the end, she decided to sit on the grass and wait for him to take a break. {I hope you realise how lucky you are, Vincara; it’s not just any man this star would willingly wait around for.}

As she admired John’s form and was lost in thought, she suddenly heard a familiar voice call out to her. “Ah, if it isn’t Dawn Star. I didn’t expect to see you back here again.”

Dawn Star turned to find Trainer Frank, the trainer she had spoken to when she first trained here, approaching her.

“Hello again, Trainer Frank,” Dawn Star greeted politely. “I came back for more training, but wanted a word with Vincarna first.”

“Oh, you two are acquainted?” Frank asked in surprise before adding, “I’m glad you decided to return for more training; you could also learn a thing or two from Vincarna. He spent the entire night learning the parry defence skill.”

“Seriously?” Dawn Star asked as she stared at John in surprise.

“Yup,” Frank nodded. “Never have I met someone so dedicated to training that he can continuously enter the state of flow.”

“State of flow?” Dawn Star repeated.

“The state of flow is a deep mental focus where you’re fully absorbed in what you're doing, losing track of time. Your mind is entirely focused on the task at hand so much so that all distractions fade away,” Frank explained.

“Ohh, you're talking about The Zone,” Dawn Star said in realisation.

“Never heard of it being called that before,” Frank replied.

“And you're saying Vincarna enters this state every time he trains?” Dawn Star asked.

“Yup, as you can see for yourself,” Frank replied. “Though admittedly it’s easy to do thanks to the ring's ability to cancel out all external noise.”

Dawn Star nodded and was just about to say something else when the pair of them suddenly saw Vincarna collapse.

Dawn Star and Frank stared at the location Vincarna had just been before Dawn Star suddenly burst out in laughter.
