John smiled at the notification before he noticed an icon blinking in the corner of his vision that notified him of a message waiting to be read.

[Madam Death: Hey kiddo, head over to my place so we can check the MK Zero.]

“The way she phrased that could have been better,” John chuckled before adding. "Log out"

[Logging out, thank you for playing Genesis.]

After logging out, John took a quick shower, threw on some clothes before heading down the spiral staircase to find Sarah relaxing on one of the large sofas while watching something as she waited for him.

Upon hearing him descending the stairs, she turned and smiled at him as John asked, “Sorry, were you waiting long?”

“About an hour,” Sarah shrugged. “You really get lost in focus when training.”

“Sorry about that,” John replied while rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.

“It’s fine, but grab yourself a snack to eat on the way so we can leave,” Sarah instructed.

John nodded and quickly made himself a sandwich, which he ate as they descended in the elevator and climbed into the car that was waiting for them, with Jesissca sitting in the driver's seat.

The car swiftly departed and soon arrived at the palace, where Sarah once again led him to the medical room where Rebecca was waiting and greeted them upon arrival, "Hey kiddo, how’s the training going?"

"It's so messed up; you know I just calculated that Mel and I will be doing this for six and a half days and have to die at least twenty-four times?" John replied with a sigh, causing Jessica to laugh before saying. "Such is the life of a researcher, my boy, hard work and normally very little return, though in your case you're at least getting stats and a percentage increase for your hard work.

Speaking of, I have a couple of things to report, but first, pass me the MK Zero so I can check its condition," Rebecca said, before taking the access band and putting it on the scanner before turning back to John with a thoughtful expression and saying. "Wait, where did you get six and a half days from? My calculations were less."

"That's because you're not accounting for the skill parry, which you learn from completing the defence training, although it does not count as a hidden quest."

"Wait, you already learned parry?" Rebecca asked, surprised. “You normally have to go through a lot of battles in Genesis to learn parry, hmm I guess that's the real reason why the defence training post is in the training hall, though apparently hardly anyone ever uses it."

"Really? When I first said I wanted to train in unarmed combat, the trainer told me to start with the defence training wooden man post." John informed her.

"Oh, sure, they always advise you to start with that post no matter which weapon you choose first; however, most people don't see the point. They think it's just a way to dodge people who throw punches at you. In a game where there are steel weapons, bows and magic, most people consider that as pointless." Rebecca explained.

John nodded in understanding before Sarah commented, "Still, six days in the starter village is way more than most spend there; most players end up just doing a few quests to gain levels and then complete the mayor's challenge since it's not exactly hard. I guess it makes sense why no one has bothered going through all the weapons training when they each take thirteen hours to complete and that's when you're not stopping to eat to replenish your hunger."

John nodded in agreement before saying, “Jessica was wrong about the one percent increase from the basic weapons mastery you achieve from completing the training; it’s actually ten percent.”

"Really, ten percent? That's a huge difference." Rebecca replied. "While you won't notice it at your level, as your level continues to increase, and so does your attack power, the difference between one percent and ten percent will appear obvious. In the future, if you have one hundred attack power, you will gain an extra ten instead of just the one; that's essentially ten extra levels of stats in strength."

"Then why did that online post Jessica read only say one percent?" John wondered.

"If I had to guess, I’d say it was a ploy to try and keep it under wraps. If they claimed that nothing came from the training, no one would believe them; however, by saying the reward is rubbish and not worth the effort, they are more likely to be believed and put people off doing it themselves," Rebecca replied before turning to look at the test results which had just come in and caused her to smile.

"The Sync rate increased once again with another reduction in loss rate. I really wonder how high the sync rate can go."

Two days later, while John was still working through all the weapons in the weapons hall, Empress Alexia Bristle was getting the report on the investigation into the whole incident that led to the human race's punishment from Tia. It had been several days since they had apprehended over a thousand suspects and interrogated each of them.

"Empress, we have finished conducting the investigation and interrogation of the individuals apprehended in Dawnscape City," General Vimes reported.

"Proceed, General," Alexia ordered from behind her desk.

"We have broken the individuals down into three groups,” General Vimes began. "The first group contains the names of those directly involved with the actions against John Michaels or those who received money to cover it up. These include the people who were directly involved in this whole thing, namely Frank Hargreaves, who stole the financial support and orchestrated giving John Michaels the MK VI access band and Mary Brown, who failed to assist him as his teacher while taking a cut of his financial support.

The second ground consists of people who received the bribes, namely, Jasper Dawn, the Mayor of Dawnscape City and Peter Hendrix, the principal of Dawnscape City School where John Michaels attended, and who apparently received money from Mary Brown to go along with her scheme, as well as sexual favours."

“Wasn’t she also screwing Frank Hargreaves?” Adrid, who was sitting on one of the sofas, asked, causing Roberta to frown and say, “Language, princess.”

“That’s correct,” General Vimes replied before continuing. "While the third group contains all the individuals who knew about John Michaels' incident and did nothing to help or prevent it. This includes several of the teachers and employees of Dawnscape City School as well as approximately thirteen percent of the Dawnscape City government officials.

All other individuals who knew nothing about this incident and had no involvement in it have already been released and had Genesis access restored."

There was silence for a few minutes after the general finished his report before Alexia sighed and spoke. "Thank you, General. The punishment for these two groups has already been decided"

I will begin with the third group who knew about the incident but did nothing; those employed as either government officials or teachers will lose their jobs, all of them will be given community service for eighteen months, while Tia has also confirmed that the entire group will be banned from Genesis for eighteen months also.

The second group, namely Jasper Dawn and Peter Hendrix, will spend eleven years in prison to match the eleven years that John Michaels suffered, while Tia has also confirmed they will be permanently banned from Genesis for the rest of their lives."

As for the First group and main perpetrators, namely Frank Hargreaves and Mary Brown, there is nothing much to say; they will all be publicly executed on the charge of crimes against the human race."
