Chapter 66: Jason Marks

“So what the hell happened to keeping a low profile?” Sarah asked as she stared at a sheepish Mel who sat opposite her.

After seeing the world announcement, Sarah had immediately called Mel and insisted that the pair go out to eat together. The pair now sat opposite each other at one of the top restaurants in Eclipse City.

The strange thing was, however, the brown-haired, blue-eyed Mel that John knew was nowhere to be seen, and instead the Mel that sat opposite Sarah had white-pink hair and pink eyes, while people kept glancing over at their table and pointing at her while addressing her as Melissa Delacruz.

Mel sighed before guiltily saying, “I guess my habit of always being the centre of attention got the best of me, and I chose to reveal my name before I thought better of it.

Thankfully, each of the tables in the restaurant had soundproofing magic built into them so that any conversation held would remain secret. Because of this, Sarah didn’t have to worry about lowering her voice when she accusingly said, “You specifically asked Tia for permission to change your appearance so that you could play without being recognised. What happens if someone works out who you are from this?”

“I’m not too worried about that; after all, no one recognised me when we went to the mall the other day,” Mel replied before taking a sip of her drink.

“Because no one was actively looking for you,” Sarah sighed before deciding to change the subject and ask. “So what class did you get?”

“Interested are you?”Mel asked with a smirk while proudly throwing out her already oversized chest, which happened to cause even more of the other patrons to look their way.

“Put those away; you're causing a scene, or are you trying to make everyone stare at them?” Sarah retorted while glancing at Mel’s chest.

“You're just jealous yours aren't as big as mine,” Mel teased.

“No one's are as big as yours,” Sarah snapped.

“Now you know that isn’t true, and you're just saying that out of spite,” Mel replied while showing a hurt look.

“Ok, ok, fine,” Sarah conceded. “Now tell me what class you got.”

“Druid,” Mel said happily, making Sarah gape at her in surprise before excitedly asking, “Seriously? That’s the class you always dreamed of having but couldn’t.”

“I know, right,” Mel said happily before adding. “And it’s all thanks to John.”

“Really?” Sarah asked in surprise before adding. “What happened?”

“It’s like this,” Mel replied as she began to explain everything that happened after she met up with John in the forest while he was fighting the bullies.

As she was explaining, a certain nine-tailed Kitsune entered the restaurant accompanied by a handsome young man wearing an expensive-looking custom-made suit.

“I don’t understand why you're still going on about it, Jason?” Shizu asked with a slight frown. “I simply enjoyed a conversation in my own language.”

“I simply don’t trust the guy,” Jason Marks replied. “I mean, did you see what he was wearing? Imagine visiting a public bar dressed like that.”

Shizu rolled her eyes before saying, “He was obviously just going out for a run. Also, the clothes he wore were all top quality and did you happen to notice that the elevator he came out of was the express elevator?”

“So he lives on one of the top floors, so what?” Jason scoffed.

Shizu sighed again and was about to reply when she spotted Sarah and Mel sitting together at a table.

“Well, look who we have here,” Shizu said with a smile before walking towards their table.

Jason was about to mention that their table was elsewhere when he realised who Shizu was approaching. His face revealed a look of surprise before he quickly sent a message on his access band, after which he followed Shizu.

As she passed through the soundproof barrier, she just happened to hear Mel say, “ And then I became a Druid.”

“You became what?” Shizu asked in shock, causing Sarah and Mel to turn and look at her in alarm. Neither of them had noticed Shizu’s approach and so they thought that some stranger had come over and heard Mel’s words.

Luckily the both recognised the one who had spoken and sighed in relief as Mel said, “God, Shizu, don’t scare me like that.”

“Forget that,” Shizu waved before demanding. “What do you mean you became a Druid?”

Mel opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off as Sarah knocked on the table and subtly shook her head before indicating Jason, who was approaching and about to pass through the barrier.

Shizu realised this and managed a quick curse in her native tongue, “Damn leech.” Before he passed through the soundproofing barrier and greeted them.

“Miss Lapis, Miss Delacruz, such a pleasure to see you both again.”

“Mr Marks,” Both women replied with as much enthusiasm as decorum demanded, but no more.

Jason’s eyes wandered to Mel’s breasts, something all three women noticed before he said, “I was disappointed to hear that you won’t be attending the university this year, Miss Delacruz.”

Mel smiled before saying, “I’m afraid my schedule simply wouldn’t allow it, and besides that, my social standing means it’s not mandatory for me to attend.”

“Ah, similar to Miss Lapis’s situation from a few years back. I believe she opted not to attend as she decided to focus on Genesis instead, which inevitably led her to becoming the most famous female player of our generation,” Jason replied while smiling at Sarah.

“You're too kind, Mr Marks,” Sarah replied before adding, “But I’m only the most famous human female player.”

“Of course, forgive my mistake,” Jason replied before eagerly asking. Would the two of you care to join us? I’m sure we can have management put two tables together for us.”

{Yeah, like we can’t all tell that you just want to be seen eating out with us.} All three women thought before Mel flashed an apologetic smile and said, “We appreciate the invite, but I’m afraid we were in the middle of a rather important conversation when you arrived.”

“Ah, of course,” Jason replied slightly awkwardly before adding. “We will leave you to your discussion then.”

Shizu smiled at Jason before saying, “Jason dear, won’t you go see about our table? I just need to confirm some plans I have with these two, and then I will join you.”

Jason flushed slightly and smiled at Shizu’s address of him before happily turning to depart while saying, “Of course, it was a pleasure seeing you two again.”

“Jason, dear?” Mel asked after Jason had left the soundproofing barrier.

“Oh, please,” Shizu replied while rolling her eyes. “He’s so easy to please; I can basically do it without thinking. All I have to do is give him a pet name.”

“Well, don’t give him too much hope,” Sarah warned. “You still need to attend university with him, and no doubt have to sit on the student council with him.”

“I’m unfortunately aware,” Shizy sighed before turning to leave, adding. “I want to hear all about you becoming a druid at our meal tomorrow.”

“Sure, sure,” Mel replied before teasingly adding. “You better not keep your date waiting.”

“I’d much rather be on a date with that interesting fellow who spoke my native tongue,” Shizu sighed before leaving the soundproofing barrier, causing Sarah and Mel to give her looks of surprise and interest as they watched her go.

“Someone caught that little fox’s attention?” Mel asked in surprise. “I wonder who that could be.”

“No idea,” Sarah replied before returning to the previous conversation and saying, “You really need to thank John for his help in this.”

“I know.” Mel nodded. “I’m just not sure what to get him, maybe tickets to my next concert?”

“And reveal to him who you really are?” Sarah asked. “John doesn’t even really know who Melissa Delacruz is, so it’s unlikely he would go to your concert on his own. And you can’t exactly attend your own concert with him while you're up on stage.”

Mel chuckled before saying, “Maybe I should invite him up on stage to join me; that way I can do both.”

“But that still entails revealing your identity to him; are you really ok doing that?” Sarah asked. “The whole reason you disguised yourself in the first place was to stop people from discovering your real identity so that you could play Genesis in peace.”

“I know, but you said it yourself: he knows next to nothing about Melissa Delacruz,” Mel continued. “Because of this, I don’t think John would be too bothered even if I did reveal my identity, though honestly I’m quite enjoying being treated as just a normal woman by him.”

“Well, it’s your choice at the end of the day, but I don’t suggest you keep this secret forever; the longer you keep a secret from someone, the more it damages your relationship.”

“Speaking from experience?” Mel teased.
