Ninth Wonder of the World glared at Mel, which only increased John’s confusion even more as he thought. {I can only assume they're talking about their lives in the real world, but does that mean Mel is a popular figure in high society?}
Mel shot her a look that said, ‘serves you right,’ before turning back to John and saying, “If we don’t rescue her, we’ll never leave.”
“We could always leave her here,” Ninth Wonder of the World suggested with a giggle, to which Mel rolled her eyes and said, “Oh yeah, sure, if you don’t mind her complaining to us later about it.”
“I guess I'll go get her,” John said with a sigh before walking away from the two women and towards Sarah.
“Are you sure?” Mel asked. “People are going to hate you for draggin her away.”
“Well, you two don’t seem too keen on helping her,” John retorted as he pulled Phata’s hood up over his head to obscure his face.
“Well, he’s not wrong,” Ninth Wonder of the World stated while Mel admired John’s mantle and gently touched a new necklace she wore, thinking, {I wonder if that's the reward he got from the mayor?}
John pushed his way through the crowd before appearing next to Sarah and grasped her wrist while quietly saying, “Let's go.”
Sarah was shocked by the feeling of someone suddenly grabbing her and was about to turn and blast them with a spell when she suddenly recognised John’s voice and instead nodded with a grateful look.
Unfortunately, the crowd didn’t seem to be impressed by the fact that a lone individual wanted to take Blue Ice Queen away from them, and so began to complain.
“Hey, who the fuck are you?”
“Yeah, buddy, wait in line if you want a chance to speak with Goddess Blue Ice Queen.”
“Goddess, really?”
“Yeah, she’s a goddess. Got a problem with that?”
“Hey bro, I was in the middle of having an important discussion with Blue Ice Queen. You can’t just barge in here and try to steal her away.”
John sighed as Sarah shot him an apologetic look, while the insults and complaints kept mounting and the crowd blocked their escape to the point that John got fed up and said, “Astral Recall: Thamethalas.”
There was a flash of bright light before John and Sarah vanished.
“What! Where did they go?”
“No way, was that teleportation magic?”
“Don’t you have to be a high-level sorcerer to use that? The guy's gear didn’t look impressive.”
“Other classes get teleportation skills too, but you're right, he didn’t look impressive.”
“Did anyone manage to inspect him?”
“I did, but weirdly all I got was his name, Vincarna and his human race; everything else showed question marks.”
“I guess he was a high level then.”
“Well, seems like Blue Ice Queen already found herself a new boyfriend.”
“Aww man, I wanted a shot at her.”
Away from the crowd, Mel and Shizu had watched the entire event unfold and only after watching them teleport away did Ninth Wonder of the World ask, “Did they leave us behind?”
“He’ll probably be back for us in a minute; we should head for the teleportation hall since that’s where he’ll appear,” Mel replied before glancing at Shizu as they walked and asking. “So what the hell was that about?”
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“What do you mean?” Shizu asked.
“Earlier you claimed that you were going to complain to John about him stealing your apartment, even though that isn’t what happened,” Mel explained before asking. “Why does it now seem like you no longer care?”
“Who knows,” Shizu replied. “Perhaps I just appreciated his greeting towards me.”
“Hmm,” Mel replied, clearly unconvinced, before adding. “And this sudden interest in going to Thamethalas? You never mentioned that before.”
Shizu shrugged before saying, “It sounds interesting, plus it will give me a chance to see Alea.”

[You have discovered Thamethalas.]
[Astral Recall Cooldown: 59 Seconds]
John appeared within a teleportation hall that seemed similar and yet different to the one in Waning City, while still holding Sarah’s wrist. Upon realising this, he quickly released it before saying, ”Sorry.”
“Why are you apologising, dummy? You just helped me out of a sticky situation, so I should instead be thanking you,” Sarah replied while smiling.
“Is it always like that for you?” John asked, to which Sarah sighed and nodded. “It’s not as bad when I’m in the towns and cities belonging to the other races, but in human ones… well, you saw.
Back before my rebirth, I had an item that allowed me to conceal my identity, thus allowing me to move around unnoticed, but alas I’m not high enough level to use it again yet. Makes me wish I could have used the make-up function during my rebirth.”
“Make-up function?” John asked in confusion.
“Oh right, you wouldn’t know about that,” Sarah replied before explaining. “It’s a special privilege given to new players who are well known or famous in the real world. Upon first logging in and choosing their name, Tia also allows them to change certain aspects of their appearance, such as hair and eye colour.
This is done to allow them the chance to play Genesis without worrying about what just happened to me, though once they reach a certain level, that make-up becomes undone and they revert to their true appearance.”
[Astral Recall Cooldown Complete]
John glanced at the notification before asking, “Why does it become undone?”
“Because they still have their responsibilities. Don’t forget that the real world and Genesis are linked; those in authority there have the same authority here. Take Adria as an example; because she has only just begun playing, her avatar doesn’t use her red hair like in the real world; however, she’s still the human princess and, as such, has responsibilities. Eventually her avatar will shed its disguise, and she will have to take up her role as princess here in Genesis just like in the real world. But we can talk about this more later; for now, you should head back and fetch Mel; she’s probably complaining about you leaving her behind.”
“Right,” John nodded before saying. “Astral Recall: Waning City.”

[You have arrived in Waning City]
[Astral Recall Cooldown: 59 Seconds]
John reappeared in the teleportation hall of Waning City just before he heard someone calling out for him.
“Vincarna,” Mel called as she waved from over near one of the walls where she and Ninth Wonder of the World waited and were receiving a lot of stares.
“Well, aren't you two popular,” John teased as he arrived in front of them.
Mel rolled her eyes before thumbing Ninth Wonder of the World and saying, “Blame the fox.”
“It’s not my fault I was incapable of hiding my tails,” Shizu retorted.
“Sarah just explained the whole make-up thing to me,” John said before asking. “I guess this isn’t your real appearance?”
“That’s right,” Ninth Wonder of the World replied before holding a finger to her lips and saying. “But such questions are actually considered rude in Genesis, so we’ll pretend you didn’t ask.”
“Oh, is it?” John asked in surprise before saying. “My apologies.”
Ninth Wonder of the World smiled before saying, “It’s fine, so shall we be off?”
John glanced at Astral Recall's timer before saying, “The cooldown still needs twelve seconds.”
Ninth Wonder of the World nodded in understanding before asking, “So, Vincarna, since you're staying in the penthouse apartment of Eclipse Views, I assume you’ll be attending Eloa Continental University?”
“What gave you that impression? John asked just as astral recall came off cooldown, causing him to offer a hand to each woman and ask. “Shall we?”
Both women readily accepted the offered hands, causing many of those nearby who had been staring at the women to look at John with jealousy; however, John just ignored their gazes and said, “Astral Recall: Thamethalas.” Before the trio disappeared, once again surpassing everyone watching.
[You have arrived in Thamethalas.]
[Astral Recall Cooldown: 59 Seconds]
“Wow, I didn’t feel anything,” Ninth Wonder of the World remarked before asking. “Where’s Sarah?”
“She’s probably waiting outside,” Mel replied as the trio exited the teleportation hall and got their first glimpse of Thamethalas, a city built in the middle of a forest.
John looked around with interest as he saw buildings that appeared to be grown from the trees themselves, climbing high towards the canopy while rope walkways connected the trees. Animals scurried around in the trees, while seeing far more races than back in Waning City.
“It really does look similar to Asyath Serin,” Ninth Wonder of the World commented while Mel nodded and said. “Look at all the different races; the eleven capital really is the land of neutrality.”
“Yeah, I had a similar reaction the first time I saw it,” Sarah’s voice said in amusement as she appeared beside them along with an elf woman who was just about to greet them when John said. “It’s you!”
