Chapter 77: Silver Oracle

It’s you!” John said in surprise as he recognised the elf woman, causing the other three to look between them in surprise.

“Excuse me?” The elf replied in apparent surprise. “Have we met before?”

She was dressed in a silver-white cleric's robe that had gold highlights and showed off a modicum amount of her ample cleavage while matching the colour of her silver-white hair.

“Oh!” John replied, revealing his mistake before addressing her in the Elvish tongue. “Please forgive me for my rudeness.”

All four women looked at him in surprise before Ninth Wonder of the World asked, “You also speak Elvish?”

“What do you mean by also?” Sarah asked, to which Ninth Wonder of the World said. “Vincarna also speaks Kit.”

“Really? You never told me that,” Sarah said as she looked at John in surprise while the elf woman gave him an appraising look.

John shrugged before simply saying, “You never asked.”

“It’s not exactly something you ask,” Sarah replied while rolling her eyes as the elf suddenly asked. “Might I enquire where you learnt to speak Elvish?”

“At school. I studied it along with a few other languages and subjects in the library during my free time. Since your race is the most respected of all races, it seemed appropriate to learn Elvish.”

The elf woman smiled before curiously asking, “And Kit? Why did you learn Kit?”

“The Kitsune race is a neighbouring race, so I figured I might have to interact with them one day. It seems I was right, since I’ve now met two in as many days.”

“Really?” The elf woman replied as Ninth Wonder of the World pouted and asked. “Why does Vincarna’s elvish sound even more fluent than my own? I had the best tutors after all.”

“Probably because John studied harder than you,” Sarah teased before adding. “Though I agree that even I’m not as fluent in Elvish.”

“John?” the elf woman asked in surprise. “As in John Michaels? The individual the human racial punishment surrounded?”

“Really?” John asked as he shot Sarah an accusatory stare.

“Don’t blame me,” Sarah replied, waving her hands before hastily adding. “As the elven Princess, Alea naturally has other sources of information.”

“Elven Princess?” John repeated in surprise before inspecting the elf woman.

[Name: Silver Oracle]

[Race: Elf]

[Class: Cleric+3]

[Level: ???]

[HP: ???]

[MP: ???]

{Yup, that’s the Genesis ID of the famous Elven Princess Alea Keagwyn.} John thought doubtfully before turning to inspect Sarah and Ninth Wonder of the World as if to confirm that his inspect skill was indeed broken.

[Name: Blue Ice Queen]

[Race: Human/Phoenix (80%/20%)]

[Class: None]

[Level: 5]

[HP: 480/480]

[MP: 220/220]

Stolen story; please report.

[Name: Ninth Wonder of the World]

[Race: Kitsune]

[Class: None]

[Level: 5]

[HP: 200/200]

[MP: 110/100]

{Ok inspect is not broken, but what the fucks with Sarah’s stats?} John could help but think as he stared at her with wide eyes, causing her to blush.

{Ninth Wonder of the World’s stats are average for a level five because she didn’t do all the weapon training for the bonus stats, yet neither did Sarah and her stats rival mine. Is this the power of a rebirth?}

“Err, John. Is something wrong?” Sarah asked as the blush on her face increased slightly.

“Oh, sorry,” John apologised before quickly explaining. “I was just so shocked by your stats; your rebirth really made you OP.”

“I agree; even I was shocked at the numbers when I first saw them,” Silver Oracle nodded.

John coughed slightly before suddenly bowing towards Silver Oracle, surprising them all as he said, "Forgive my rudeness, Princess Alea Keagwyn. I failed to recognise and greet the daughter of the great tree itself.”

“Whoa, that’s quite the greeting,” Sarah said in surprise while Ninth Wonder of the World nodded and said. “He even addressed her correctly as a daughter of the great tree, a title reserved only for the female members of the royal family.

Silver Oracle smiled before doing something that surprised not only their group, but all the elves who had been observing them since Silver Oracle's arrival. She actually performed a dignified Elven bow before saying, “I welcome you, Vincarna, on behalf of the royal family to Thamethalas, the capital city of the elves.”

“Woah, woah, woah,” Ninth Wonder of the World said in shock before continuing. “You can’t just go welcoming him on behalf of the royal family like that, Alea. It’s one thing if you had just naturally said it, but for you, as a princess and next in line to the throne, to greet him with a bow signifies far more.”

“What do you mean?” Mel asked curiously.

“It’s like if Adria welcomed a member of another race like that as princess of the humans, as next in line to the throne, her authority is second only to her mother,” Ninth Wonder of the World explained.

Mel stared at her in shock before asking, “You mean John’s essentially under her protection now?”

“Yeah, pretty much,” Ninth Wonder of the World said with a sigh.

John gave a look of surprise upon hearing Ninth Wonder of the World’s explanation before saying, “I thank you and am honoured by your greeting, Princess, though I must admit I’m not sure how I feel about being under your protection.”

Silver Oracle laughed upon hearing his reply, in a laugh more delightful than John had ever heard before she said, “It’s fine; it doesn’t really mean much since I doubt anyone would try anything anyway.”

However, just as she finished speaking, the group suddenly heard a voice say, "Oracle, how are you? I thought I heard your mystical laughter that always captures my heart."

John noticed that Silver Oracle sighed while the other girls frowned as they turned to see a remarkably handsome elf wearing armour that seemed to shine like the sun at the head of a group of mainly female elves.

"Thank you for the compliment, Natures Guardian," Silver Oracle replied in a professionally calm tone of voice.

"It is but my pleasure, Princess, for it is always the highlight of my day to hear your laughter, which is sweeter than a songbird's singing." Natures Guardian replied as his gaze seemed to pass over John, Sarah and Mel while stopping for a moment on Ninth Wonder of the World.

He gave her an admiring look before turning back to Silver Oracle while saying, "My friends and I were just about to head off and challenge the newly discovered dungeon. Would you care to join us? We could use a healer of your calibre, and it would be our honour to have the princess accompany us.”

As he said this, John couldn’t help but notice that several of the women showed looks of displeasure, particularly the two standing nearest to Natures Guardian. As his curiosity got the better of him, John inspected the three.

{Hmm, they didn’t react to the inspect; does that mean players are incapable of noticing when I inspect them? If so, that means I wouldn’t notice either.}

Silver Oracle smiled apologetically while

Saying, "I'm afraid I will have to respectfully decline. I'm afraid since I promised to show my friends around Thamethalas."

Natures Guardian finally gave John, Sarah and Mel a quick glance before focusing on Sarah with interest. “Blue Ice Queen, the first player ever to gain rebirth. I do hope you will allow me to treat you to a meal soon so that you can tell me how exactly you achieved it.”

Sarah chose not to respond, only offering a small smile, something that made several of Natures Guardians' party glare at her.

Natures Guardian himself didn’t seem to mind her lack of response and turned back to Silver Oracle while saying, “Blue Ice Queen, I can understand, but aren't the rest of them a waste of your time? I mean, they look as if they’ve only just acquired level five gear after leaving the starter village.”

Several of his followers laughed while Guardians Romance added snarkily, “They probably begged a senior from the humans to teleport them here just to spend time with the princess.”

“I don’t believe why they choose to come here is any of our concern,” Silver Oracle stated while staring at Guardians Romance before turning to Natures Guardian and adding, “Also, I'm sure you would agree that my time is for me to decide how I spend it."

"Of course, forgive my rudeness towards you, princess,” Natures Guardian replied while offering a small bow and adding. “It appears we have overstayed our welcome and so will depart, but I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming banquet.”
