Silver Oracle sighed as she watched Natures Guardians party depart before turning back to the others while saying, "Sorry about that.”
“It’s not your fault,” Ninth Wonder of the World replied. “He’s been chasing your skirt for years.”
“Doesn’t seem like the women in his party appreciate the fact he’s pursuing you,” John remarked.
“You noticed that, huh?” Silver Oracle replied as she glanced at John. “Although it’s never been officially confirmed, there are rumours that he rewards the female members of his party in bed.”
“Seriously?” Mel asked in disgust. “Why would any woman agree to that?”
“I guess it depends on how good he is at putting out,” Ninth Wonder of the World remarked with a smirk, causing Mel to glare at her and say. “Only you’d think that way, you horny fox.”
“I was just making an observation,” Ninth Wonder of the World replied before remembering that John was with them and so turned to him in embarrassment and said. “Don’t listen to her foolish name-calling; I’m not really a horny fox.”
“Right,” John nodded in surprise before stating, “I’m surprised he didn’t comment about how I’m hiding my stats, though, since he obviously inspected us to learn our identities.”
“He probably didn’t feel the need,” Silver Oracle replied. “Natures Guardian views many of the other races as beneath him. The only reason he showed an interest in Blue Ice Queen is because of her rebirth, while Ninth Wonder of the World is a Kitsune and a nine-tailed one at that. Their magical power comes close to rivalling our own and the dragons.”
“So he’s a snob,” Mel stated in disgust.
“Maybe, but he was right about one thing,” John replied before looking at Silver Oracle and saying. Your laughter really is sweeter than a songbird's singing.”
He said it so naturally that none of the women suspected he said it to flirt with Silver Oracle and actually honestly meant it, causing Silver Oracle herself to smile radiantly before saying. “Thank you.”
Mel coughed before looking at John and asking, “It’s pretty obvious you didn’t recognise Alea originally, so why did you say that to her after first seeing her?”
“Oh, that,” John replied. “I saw her in my vision when I was searching for Elrinira. She appeared to be leaving food out for the animals in a circular garden around the temple I’m looking for.”
“That would be the temple for 'The Order of the Mother Tree,’ which I am part of,” Silver Oracle replied before adding. “It’s curious that you saw me in your vision, though. What else did you see?”
“A hallway…” John began as he explained the contents of his vision.
“Interesting,” Silver Oracle replied thoughtfully. “It seems our two quests might be connected in some way.”
“What is your quest?” John asked. “Sarah only said something about you needing Mel’s help to speak with animals.”
“Here, it’s probably easier to show you,” Silver Oracle replied before a notification appeared before John and the others.
[Class Quest Notification]
[Find the animal killer (Epic)]
['The senior clergy within The Order of the Mother Tree believe that there is a traitor within their ranks after discovering several magic circles within the temple that were written in blood.]
[Quest Goals: Find information on the culprit behind the dark magic circles.]
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
"Seriously? What is it with using the blood of animals to write magic circles?" John asked while rolling his eyes.
Mel nodded in agreement while adding, “I know, right? It’s so nasty.”
“It is rather distasteful,” Silver Oracle said before continuing. “Anyway, I asked Mel to help because I have reached a dead end in my search, though there might be a rather special animal in the temple garden that can help.”
“Well, how about we all go together since both quests are located at the temple and may even be connected?” Sarah suggested eagerly.
“Sounds good, follow me,” Silver Oracle said with a smile before leading the way.
“So since we have some time, mind finishing your explanation from before?” John asked as he glanced at Sarah.
“Sure,” Sarah nodded before continuing. “The rulers and influential individuals in each race are the same here in Genesis as in Atlantia; for example, Alea here is the elven princess in both worlds.
While there are differences between Genesis and Atlantia, the core foundation stays the same since the original goal of Genesis was to be a place where confrontations and battles could be held.
Because of this, any individual in Atlantia that has a certain level of power or authority in their race, or even other races as recognised by Tia, is given the same level of power in Genesis. Also, if said individuals are demoted or removed from power, or if some new individual gains a powerful enough position in Atlantia or Genesis, then they need to be given the same position in the other world as per the Genesis Agreement."
“So, for example, the father of Natures Guardian from earlier is actually an influential elven council member, and if he was removed in Atlantia, he’d also have to be removed in Genesis,” Ninth Wonder of the World added with a chuckle, causing Silver Oracle to sigh and say. “I wish.”
The group walked through Thamethalas, with Silver Oracle occasionally receiving greetings from the elves before Ninth Wonder of the World looked at John and asked, “So, Vincarna, am I to believe you won’t be attending Eloa Continental University after your earlier remark?”
“How would I get in there without the grades?” John replied before continuing. “Sarah asked me something similar recently, and as I told her, I never took my finals since I was focusing on making money at the time. I may live in the penthouse apartment of Eclipse Views and have money now, but I still lack the grades to enter the top university on the continent.”
“I see. I was hoping we might end up taking some classes together, shame,” Ninth Wonder of the World said in disappointment.
Silver Oracle and Sarah shared a look just before they arrived at a large temple entrance that John recognised from his vision.
“Let’s head in,” Silver Oracle stated as she led the way, causing John to ask, “I know you're the princess, but is it ok for you to bring four outsiders in with you?”
Silver Oracle smiled at him before saying, “The main part of the temple is open to all, with only the inner areas being restricted; however, I’ve been playing this game far longer than you have, and I have quite the position in the temple; so it won’t be a problem.”
“Oh ho, what’s this Ninth Wonder of the World asked with a smile. “It’s unlike the Elven Princess to brag.”
As they entered the temple, several of the clergy turned to look at them with interest, but as Silver Oracle had stated, none of them bothered the group, allowing them to quickly pass through and reach the circular garden.
“That shed over there has one of the remains of the magic circles,” Silver Oracle said, pointing towards an old abandoned shed before she led them towards what appeared to be a small offering plate that rested right up against the large tree the temple was a part of and the garden circled.
Silver Oracle pulled out some small nuts and berries from her inventory before placing them on the plate and stepping back to wait.
John looked around curiously, but upon noticing that Silver Oracle did not seem concerned, he decided to just wait, and after a few minutes the group of four heard a noise from above, as if something was climbing down the tree, before a large squirrel appeared from amongst the tree branches and leaves and approached the plate before beginning to eat the offering.
"Greetings, Lord Ratatoskr." Silver Oracle said with a small bow.
"Squeak," Ratatoskr responded, and while that was all Silver Oracle, Sarah and Ninth Wonder of the World heard, John and Mel heard differently. "Hello, kind elf, thank you again for the food."
"He thanks you for the food," Mel said, turning to Silver Oracle.
This made Ratatoskr stop eating and look at the human woman it had paid no attention to before and asked, "You understand me, human girl?"
"I do indeed, Lord Ratatoskr; it's a pleasure to meet you," Mel replied with a similar bow to the one Silver Oracle did.
"How? No human has ever been able to understand me,” Lord Ratatoskr asked, to which Mel replied. "Because I possess the Language of Beasts."
"Language of Beasts? That's a gift only given by powerful beasts of the wild or if you're a druid."
"It happens to be both; I am in fact a Druid, but I was also given the Language of Beasts by Lord Ursa Minor along with Vincerna here."
Ratatoskr looked at John and studied him for a while as he continued to eat the food.
"Interesting, a human Druid; never heard of that before and also recognised by that starry bear Ursa Minor,” Lord Ratatoskr stated after studying Mel before it turned to John and asked in surprise. “Human boy, you received the starry bear's blessing?”
