As the notifications flashed in front of his eyes, a worn-out, rusted-looking shield began to materialise right in front of John, not only catching his eye but also those of Ninth Wonder of the World and the eight gods present.

“Impossible!” Osiris cursed. “That looks like…”

“Quiet,” Elrinira snapped, cutting him off before adding. “Vincarna must name the shield; revealing its history to him will invalidate any chance he has of gaining the living gear’s approval.”

Osiris nodded in understanding before all the gods watched and waited expectantly. Astraea stary eyes and Elrinira’s lustful ones seemed to shine with expectant hope as they stared at the young human man who had just become the first warden in over two thousand years.

{Another growth item, and this time a shield?} John thought in surprise. {I was wondering why I didn’t get my reward initially. Was Tia waiting for this? Is she even allowed to do that? Whatever, I need to think of a suitable name.}

At this, John just stared at the shield for several moments from different angles, and as he did, he thought he saw the rough outline of what was once a dragon's head. This made him recall a game he had seen a kid too young to join Genesis playing in the cafe he used to work at. He always thought the dragon in the game was really cool, and so he said, “Bahamut, Bahamut’s Aegis.”

The shield seemed to shimmer slightly after hearing the name, before everyone suddenly heard the distant cry of a dragon, making everyone's eyes widen in surprise.

“Huh!” John stated as he equipped Bahamut’s Aegis and saw the updated stats. “Why is the skill in question marks?”

As he asked, he focused on the skill, only for a new notification to appear.

[Bahamut’s Aegis appreciates the name you gave it but has not deemed you worthy enough to unlock its full potential.]

“Not deemed me worthy!” John said in surprise, causing Astraea to chuckle before saying. “Well done, Vincarna. You chose a name it appreciates. Unfortunately, dragons are stubborn creatures, and it’s not so easy to please them.”

“So it really is an engraving of a shield?” John asked. Only for Astraea to smile in response and say, “Indeed, and there are two ways to go about unlocking the skill. Either prove yourself worthy of your living gear or discover the skill yourself, which will forcefully unlock it.”

“How am I even supposed to figure out what sort of skill it is?” John asked in an exasperated tone.

“Unfortunately, I can not answer that; all you can do is hope the fates smile upon you and give you an opportunity to discover it yourself,” Astraea replied.

John nodded and was about to reply when a new notification appeared before him.

[Congratulations, you have just become the first player in Genesis to change class to a unique class. A GENESIS WORLD ANNOUNCEMENT will take place. Do you wish to hide your name?]

{Yes.} John thought without hesitation.

John stared at the update in surprise, something Ninth Wonder of the World mirrored while Astraea said, “Well now, Vincarna, it seems that your Warden class unlocked something special. I think you need to pay a visit to an old friend.”

And as she finished speaking, a teleportation circle appeared beneath John’s feet. He just had time to hear Elrinira say, “Hey, wait!” before he found himself in a completely new location filled with grass, trees, flowers and a giant starry bear that opened one eye before saying.

“Welcome, Vincarna.”

[You have discovered the Seven Circles Enclave.]

John opened his eyes to find himself lying in bed with sunlight peeking around the edges of the blinds over his bedroom window. “I must have played all night,” He mumbled to himself as he waited for feeling to return to his limbs before he got up.

After a few moments, he climbed out of bed and headed for the shower while thinking, {I need to go see Rebecca later about the MK Zero’s sync rate, and there are some things I want to ask her.}

After having a shower and making himself some breakfast, he got into the express elevator and hit the button for the underground parking lot. He had received a message from Rebecca a few minutes prior telling him that the car would be waiting for him there.

As the elevator descended, he couldn’t help but wonder, {Now that I have money coming in, should I think about getting myself a car? It seems stupid to rely on the Imperial Family to send me a car every time I want to go somewhere.}

The idea kept spinning in his mind as he reached the parking lot to find an unknown man waiting for him beside an expensive-looking car, who opened the rear door as soon as he saw John.

John thanked him as he climbed inside, and soon the car was speeding through the city streets and reached the palace after only a few minutes, where he found Rebecca waiting for him at the top of the same steps he usually climbed to enter.

“Hey, you made it,” Rebecca said with a smile before leading the way while saying. “Let's go.”

“We had an agreement to meet today, and it’s not like I have anything else planned now that Genesis is offline,” John replied before adding. “I didn’t even know it could go offline.”

“I know, crazy, right?” Rebecca said in excitement as she glanced at him. “This is only the third time in history that Genesis has gone down for a content update. The first was after Chieftess Shufharz, Leader of the Orcs, discovered the first race-exclusive class, though I guess that's not really a thing anymore. While the second was when the Eight Great Ocean Sieges were implemented.”

Rebecca stopped talking for a moment as they reached the picture, and she placed her hand against it before feeding magic into it. Only after the picture began to shimmer and the pair passed through did she continue, “I wonder if the person who got the unique class caused this update, but what even is a unique class? It can’t be race unique since they aren't a thing anymore; then does that mean it’s player unique, as in only one player can have that class?”

John was about to reply when a familiar figure appeared in one of the pictures they were walking past and happily said, “Hey, John, did you hear the news about Genesis?”

“Hello, Kaela, and yes, we were just talking about it,” John replied as the little Kaela began to run through the pictures to keep up with them while saying. “Everyone's going crazy about it; they're desperate to know what this content update is and who got the unique class.”

“You're awfully well informed,” John said with a smile while thinking. {Seeing as how Ninth Wonder of the World saw everything and she's a friend of Sarah’s, I can’t really keep this secret; might as well tell them.}

“Well, I do hear about everything that happens in the palace,” Kaela said proudly while Rebecca muttered. “Damn picture invading spectre.”

John smiled at their responses before saying, “I might know a thing or two about the unique class and update.”

“Oh! How would you know that?” Rebecca asked as she and Kaela both gave him curious looks.

“Well, because I’ve been to the underworld… twice, and I’m also the one who received the unique class.”
