Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree
Chapter 319 - 9: Transaction 2Chapter 319: Chapter 9: Transaction 2
"This technology is a secret of your Lizard-man race, isn’t it? And you’re just willing to trade it away?" Lin Yu was baffled by the Lizard-man’s attitude. He had expected a vicious battle to break out after the creature revealed its true form, not that it would still be thinking about a trade.
"Never mind that. Just tell me what you have to offer! You’re not at the Lord Service Center right now, so you must be a lord resting up after returning from the competition. What could you possibly have to offer?" The Lizard-man waved dismissively, cutting off Lin Yu’s questions.
"And another thing! Don’t call me a Lizard-man. I’m a Dragon-man!!"
Lin Yu had a pretty good idea of what was going on. The technology was probably ill-gotten, or the Lizard-men’s homeworld had already developed something better and no longer cared about this technique for manufacturing low-level Spiritual Crystals.
"What is it you want?" Lin Yu countered.
The Lizard-man said teasingly, "Oh? You mean you can get me anything I ask for?"
"Just name your price. How can you know I don’t have it if you don’t even ask?"
Seeing how confident Lin Yu was, the Lizard-man stated his demands: "An Extraordinary Cultivation Manual! One hundred Spirit Fruits, ten Bountiful Resource Packs, ten random building blueprints, ten random..."
"Whoa! Aren’t you asking for a bit much? You’re demanding a Cultivation Manual right off the bat? Do you have any idea how valuable a Cultivation Technique is?" Lin Yu interrupted before the Lizard-man could finish his list, his eyes wide as he stared at the creature like it was some kind of freak.
Having successfully advanced to the third stage, and with all the promoted lords of his cohort having pre-ordered the Star Technique, the permissions related to Cultivation Manuals were now open to them.
So, Lin Yu had used this time to learn more about Cultivation Manuals.
The Corps might have sold the manual to the lords for just Ten Thousand Points (one billion credits) this time, but that was a special case. Under normal circumstances, the lowest-level, single-use Cultivation Manual from the Corps sold for at least a hundred thousand points (ten billion credits). A Technique like the Star Technique would normally be priced somewhere between three hundred thousand and five hundred thousand points.
Plus, it wasn’t something just anyone could buy. You needed a certain level of clearance.
In game terms, you had to unlock reputation with the Cuiwei Corps, then grind it to a high level, just to be able to purchase a soulbound Technique.
"I’m starting with a high asking price, but you can haggle! Go on, try me."
"Cheaper!"
"I know you people can buy a Cultivation Manual for just Ten Thousand Points. All I’m asking for is one Extraordinary Cultivation Manual. How’s that? A bargain, right?"
This time, the Lizard-man’s words truly stunned Lin Yu. "No way! How could you possibly know that?"
"Heh heh..." The Lizard-man didn’t answer.
Even though the Lizard-man didn’t answer, Lin Yu quickly figured it out. Someone must have leaked the news.
Judging by the way these Lizard-men were hiding deep underground, terrified of being discovered, the leak couldn’t have come from the Cuiwei Corps’ top brass. It had to be either a regular member of the Cuiwei Corps or one of those rich second-generation kids.
’But why isn’t he trying to get the Cultivation Manual from Li Hua?’
’After all, the Star Technique originally came from Li Hua!’
Lin Yu was confused. He decided not to beat around the bush and asked the Lizard-man directly, "Why don’t you trade with the guy you’ve got trapped?"
"Him? Isn’t he one of your Human Race’s Extraordinary-level wanted criminals?" The Lizard-man looked baffled.
"Ha! Who told you that?" Lin Yu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He couldn’t believe the Lizard-men saw Li Hua as a wanted criminal. ’Looks like they think they’re helping the Human Race catch a crook.’
"That guy is a lord from the same cohort as me. Why on earth would you think he’s a wanted criminal?"
"I know he’s a lord from this cohort. But didn’t he pledge allegiance to an Evil God? Where else would he get that kind of killing power?"
"Our Lizard-man United Kingdom might be neutral with your Empire, but we’ve had plenty of interactions lately. I know for a fact your Empire doesn’t have abilities like that," the Lizard-man insisted with complete certainty.
"Uh... whatever you say." Lin Yu was speechless. The Lizard-man seemed completely convinced that Li Hua was a wanted criminal.
"My brother is not a wanted criminal!!" a girl’s voice suddenly called out in the room.
"What?"
"Ahem, what did you hear?"
"Didn’t you hear a little girl’s voice?"
"No, you must have been hearing things."
The Lizard-man considered himself to be in his prime; there was no way he was having auditory hallucinations. He scanned the room. Every surface was scorched by fire, except for the corner Lin Yu had emerged from.
He found nothing out of the ordinary, and the girl’s voice didn’t speak again. The Lizard-man had to begrudgingly accept that he might have been hearing things, which annoyed him to no end.
He took great pride in his health. How could his nerves be failing him now?
’It must be the stress!’
’I need to get out of this place as soon as possible and head back to the homeworld to recover. The money I’ve saved up over the years should be enough to buy a spot in the lord competition. Of course, it’d be best if I could buy a Cultivation Manual to bring with me.’
"Hurry up! Are you going to trade a Cultivation Manual for my technology or not!"
"I’ll trade. But you have to hand over that ’wanted criminal’ to me as well!"
"You want the wanted criminal, too?"
"Too?"
"Oh, no! I misspoke. Why do you want that human?" the Lizard-man quickly backpedaled.
"But you just clearly said..."
RING RING~ RING RING~ The phone on the desk began to ring. Its quality was surprisingly good; it hadn’t been destroyed by the Lizard-man’s fire.
Lin Yu fell silent. The Lizard-man swept the ash from a chair and sat down.
"Yeah, who’s this?"
...
"Not yet, but I have him trapped."
...
"What? You’re sending people in to ’help’? No way! We had a deal. This place is under our jurisdiction."
...
"Stay out of it. I’ll definitely be able to capture that wanted criminal."
...
"You’re telling me to face the consequences? Fuck! How many Spirit Crystals has your family taken from me over the years? If it wasn’t for me, you people wouldn’t be the Human Race’s..."
"FUCKER!!! You hung up on me?"
The Lizard-man angrily slammed the phone down.
"A traitor from the Human Race, colluding with you?" Lin Yu leaned forward, his curiosity piqued.
"Fuck, what kind of talk is that? The most they can get me for is unauthorized mining of rare minerals. If I’m caught, I’ll pay a fine and get deported. Don’t make it sound so nasty!" The Lizard-man seemed genuinely pissed off now, dropping his previously calm demeanor.
"Heh, a lot of people have gone missing around here over the years, haven’t they? Randomly killing people on Human Race territory... that’s a bit more serious than just an illegal mining charge, right?" Lin Yu taunted.
"Don’t spread false rumors! We sent out every single person who stumbled in here. We didn’t harm them, and we have video proof!" The Lizard-man waved his hands frantically. He was just here to mine some ore, not to be a murderer and a thief.
BOOM— A faint explosion echoed from outside the room.
The sudden explosion caught both of their attention. They peered out the window but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
Suddenly, the lights in the room went out.
RING RING~ The phone on the desk rang again.
The Lizard-man snatched up the phone and started yelling, "Asshole! You dare hang up on me? Believe me, I can find someone else to move this shipment!"
...
"Oh, sorry. I thought you were someone else. Go ahead, what is it? Why did the power just cut out?"
...
"What? The base’s main Energy Core was blown up? Who did it? Can it be repaired?"
...
"Two bottom-rung employees?"
"It has to be repaired! I don’t give a damn whose nephew you are, if you can’t fix that core, we’re all screwed!!"
CLICK—
"That little punk... he’s actually playing for keeps. Fine. He can’t blame me for this."
"You said that human isn’t a wanted criminal, right? So you must be his friend, wanting to get him back! He wounded so many of my people. You can’t expect him to just walk away without paying any compensation, can you?"
"Give me a copy of the Cultivation Manual, and I’ll take you to him. Whether or not you can get him out of here, that’ll be on you. How about it?"
The Lizard-man put the phone down, and after a moment’s thought, turned to Lin Yu.
Lin Yu watched him in silence. ’After all this time, he’s still showing no signs of being controlled. The Charming Mushroom’s spores must not have worked. His flames probably burned them all away.’
’I never expected this Lizard-man to burn everything, including his own insides, when he used his fire. His fire resistance must be incredible.’
After a moment of thought, he said, "If you include your Artificial Spirit Crystal technology, I can add 100 Spirit Fruits."
Lin Yu didn’t argue further and agreed to the deal. Besides, the Corps had never said he couldn’t sell the manual to outsiders, and he really did want the Lizard-man’s technology.
"Deal!" the Lizard-man agreed readily this time.
"Good. Take me to him. Once I see him, we’ll make the exchange: my manual and Spirit Fruits for your technology."
