Chapter 223: Chapter 200: Little Oasis

There was also a woman at the bar talking to the bartender. Her speech and demeanor exuded confidence and composure; she looked like someone with a story to tell.

Zhou Mei decided to start with these people. She told her team to continue spreading the word about recruitment while she, mug in hand, walked over to the man drinking alone.

"Hello, may I sit here?" Zhou Mei asked with a smile.

The man looked up at her, a flicker of vigilance in his eyes, but it quickly faded. "Of course."

Zhou Mei sat down across from him and began to talk.

"I’m Zhou Mei, from a shelter. I can tell you’re highly skilled. I was wondering if you’d be interested in joining us?"

The man smiled faintly. "I’ve heard of shelters, but I prefer a life of freedom."

Zhou Mei didn’t give up. She continued, "Our shelter offers a stable living environment with abundant resources. Plus, we have many other talented people like you. You should consider it."

The man mulled it over for a moment, seeming to weigh the pros and cons.

Finally, he shook his head. "Sorry, but no. You should try someone else."

Zhou Mei wasn’t surprised by his second refusal.

To each their own. Everyone thinks differently, and not everyone desires a stable life.

She didn’t press him further. After all, he hadn’t given a reason, so he must have had his own compelling circumstances.

She then turned to the woman at the bar and started a conversation.

"Hello, I’m Zhou Mei, from a shelter. You seem very capable. Any interest in joining us?" Zhou Mei got straight to the point.

The woman turned and sized Zhou Mei up.

"A shelter? Sounds good. But I’ll need more information."

Zhou Mei told her about the shelter’s situation, including its resources, security, and future prospects.

The woman seemed tempted after hearing the pitch, but when she mentioned she would need to bring her family with her, Zhou Mei thought for a moment and declined.

’The shelter isn’t very large right now; every member needs to be carefully selected. If she were exceptionally strong, perhaps the Director would be willing to accept her relatives. But this woman is just an ordinary person with a little potential. I don’t even need to ask the Director for his opinion; I’m not willing to take on extra baggage for a recruit like her.’

Before long, people started noticing their recruitment announcement and began to approach them with questions.
